Nightmare on Elm Street star haunts Sony's virtual storefront; Far Cry 2 now available as full-game download as demos for Madden NFL 12 and Driver: San Francisco also go live.
Sony's recently announced PSN Play promotion makes its debut two weeks from today, but gamers won't need to wait that long to grab new wares on the PlayStation Network.
Leading the way this week is a new character for NetherRealms' bloody fighting game Mortal Kombat. Legendary killer Freddy Krueger is now available to download for $5. Krueger appears in Mortal Kombat with his trademark knife glove, as well as his familiar red-and-green-striped sweater and tattered hat. He's also outfitted with his own move set, two unique fatalities, and a story ending for the game's Arcade Ladder mode.
Also now available on the PlayStation Network is Ubisoft's Far Cry 2 ($30). The game trades in the original's tropical locale for wide-open African plains, replete with megalomaniacal warlords, destructible environments, dynamic weather effects, and 50 square kilometers of open environments.
Players looking to try before they buy can pick up two new demos today. Football fans can try their hand at Madden NFL 12 via a new sampler that has players reliving the 2010-11 NFC Championship, which pitted the Chicago Bears against the Green Bay Packers at Solider Field in Illinois.
The other new demo out now is a single-player trial for Ubisoft's upcoming racing game Driver: San Francisco. Looking ahead, a multiplayer demo for the game will arrive next week. Driver: San Francisco will be released in full on September 6.
Lastly, gamers looking to add to their copies of Earth Defense Force: Insect Armageddon can grab two new downloadable content packs today. The Death From Above Jet Armor Weapon Pack ($3) adds 15 new weapons and the Pounds of Pain Battle Armor Pack ($3) adds another fresh 15 killing machines.
A full list of the week's deals and new PlayStation Store content, including themes, wallpapers, demos, discounts, and add-on content, is available on the PlayStation Blog.
...I hope they realize you can get a new unopened copy of Farcry 2 anywhere games are sold for a lot less than $30. Just sayin.
Already did some fatalities on Freddy Krueger with Raiden online, hope he doesn't appear on Raiden's dreams anymore lol.

@ i_like_pie Why do you think you shouldn't pay $5 for a character? there are 27 characters already not including DLC but including Kratos for PS3 . Its 2011 and people think the games they buy are incomplete because of DLC. As games when up in price so did state wages etc etc. Plus you don't have to pay $5 for a character that is a special guest to MK. You just don't buy it. DLC is here to stay and has been for awhile and it wont change in the future.
i shouldnt have to pay $5 for characters that you should have had in the game in the first place. stop trying to squeeze money out of us
"Nightmare on Boon Street" XD Anyway i hope this game comes for PC, so we can enjoy like xbox and ps3 owners
I tried the Driver: San Fransisco demo......I remember now why I hate the Driver series....... It plays like an arcade style open world racer [Midnight Club] but they throw in Hollywood style car chases so the physics of the cars are all over the place, it's all so it looks cinematic and stylish but for a person like me I want my cars to go fast but stay responsive and precise.......I've played too much Forza for my own good, other driving games don't cut it for me......
They NEED to lower the prices on XBL Arcade. $30 for Far Cry 2. Another random game is King Kong for $20. The games 6 years old.....
I gonna have to check out the Freddy Krueger for MK. But $5 seems a lil steep for one character. Anyhow, I will have to spend it anyway just to be able to play as one of my fav villains.
@vadicta he actuially does. One of his specials makes a char sleep for a second or two. He also has a teleport, and one of his fatalities is how he killed Johnny Depp in the movie. Its actually pretty sweet. It in his gameplay trailer at mortalkombatonline.com
30 dollars to download Far Cry 2! Is that a joke? The game's almost three years old, and disc copies are available for half that price.
haha i love the idea of Freddy being in MK, fits so perfectly, they should do a whole horror movie icon season of dlc with the likes of Jason and Leatherface
Can anyone do the math on what the game would have cost if it were $5 for all of the characters on the disc? I don't own the game, and am not sure of who all is in it. Silly price point.
$5 just for a caracter that you cant use it online if the other person didnt download the compatibility patch is just...overpriced.
I love zonky crossovers like when Lars from Tekken appeared in Naruto Shippuden: Ultimate Ninja Storm 2.
mortal kombat 9 sucks.....they changed all the moves... no more high kick low kick..now its front kick back kick? you cant run...the charcters feel slow and clunky....the online has a bunch of glitches... im thinking of selling it....its a shame too because i love freddy krueger... lack of replays also sucks...sigh
I like it. A nice addition I would say. I wonder though if they make a second Mortal Kombat if they will put him in it?
