PlayStation Store Update: PixelJunk Shooter 2, Dead Space 2 DLC
Sony's virtual marketplace adds colorful shooting game, add-on content for Visceral Games' horror title; ModNation Racers now available as full-game download; Vagrant Story hits PSOne Classics; demos for MLB 2K11 and Top Spin 4 also out.
The PlayStation Network is a hotbed for new downloadable content this week, as new wares ranging from add-on content for Visceral Games' latest horror title to a demo for 2K's 2011 tennis title are now available.
Leading the pack this week for the PlayStation 3 is PixelJunk Shooter 2 ($10). The shoot-'em-up adventure game puts players inside the cockpit of a rescue ship and tasks them with vanquishing the alien residents. New weapons and abilities will be unlocked throughout gamers' travels.
Also out now on the PS3 download space is ModNation Racers ($30). The game combines kart racing with the customizable focus of Sony's Little Big Planet franchise. In addition to creating drivers and karts using a bevy of unlocked bits and pieces, players are able to create their own tracks from scratch. Users can also upload and share their customized content with the rest of the world.
Gamers looking to add to an existing game can download new content for Dead Space 2 today. The Severed DLC ($7) is now ready to download from the marketplace. Severed will include two stand-alone single-player chapters. The expansion will drop players into the role of Gabe Weller, a security guard on the necromorph-infested Sprawl, as he escorts Lexine Murdock to safety. Weller is equipped with an upgraded pulse rifle and security suit, both of which come in handy when faced with the returning Twitcher, which fans may remember from the original Dead Space.
Sony added on PSOne Classic to its virtual marketplace this week, Vagrant Story ($6). The game thrusts players into the shoes of Ashley Riot, a man accused of killing Duke Bardorba. But is he guilty? Players will find out, as the game is set during the week leading up to the murder.
Gamers looking to try before they buy can download two new sports game demos today, the first of which is for 2K Czech's Top Spin 4. The tennis game--due out in full March 15--is a licensed title and feature the likenesses of 25 tennis stars, including Andre Agassi, Andy Roddick, Rafael Nadal, Ana Ivanovic, Pete Sampras, James Black, Jelena Jankovic, Serena Williams, Novak Djokovic, Roger Federer, and Caroline Wozniacki.
The other sports game demo out now is for the Roy Halladay-fronted MLB 2K11. 2K's latest baseball sim, MLB 2K11 is in development at 2K Sports' Visual Concepts studio, which also handles the publisher's NBA sim franchise. Gamers can use the demo as practice because when the game is released on March 8, the first gamer to record and submit an authentic perfect game will win $1,000,000.
A full list of the week's deals and new PlayStation Store content, including themes, wallpapers, demos, discounts, and add-on content, is available on the PlayStation Blog.
