PopCap shuts down Dublin studio

PopCap Mobile associate producer JP Vaughan confirms Dublin studio closure; says staff had 30 days to prepare.

Bejeweled and Plants vs. Zombies creator PopCap has shut down its Dublin studio, according to PopCap Mobile associate producer JP Vaughan.

Vaughan Tweeted the news yesterday, saying that staff at the studio had 30 days to prepare.

Last month, PopCap cut its North American presence by around 50 people, and said it was investigating shutting down its Dublin operation.

At the time, PopCap co-founder John Vechey said that Electronic Arts--who bought PopCap for more than $750 million in July last year--did not push for the reorganisation, saying: "…if we didn't have EA behind us, the cuts would have been worse."

Last month, PopCap announced that its tower-defence sequel Plants vs. Zombies 2 will arrive late in the first half of 2013.

EA saved some jobs, well that's good at least. Sorry about those that are losing their jobs though.

@SolidTy It's also good to see dev's given a 30-day notice compared to other closures.

So they blew through all that money in one year and have to let people go?  I don't think so.  This is all greedy EA.

Well, what do you expect? They're owned by EA now. Just wait another couple of years at most and PopCap won't even exist anymore. This has happened with practically every studio that EA has aquired.

I swear EA ruins everything it touches. First the creator of PvZ gets fired, and now this.

@Fenriswolf No offense but do you read articles?

@zombiexhead I'm not wearing special glasses that bend everything I read to suit my own stubborn predisposition towards a company or person I don't like. Sorry

Strange that this article didn't state it, but on IGN, this was in the article.

"PopCap has provided outplacement support and many employees have offers in other parts of PopCap, at EA or new opportunities with technology partners in Ireland.?
