I've done some Remote Play on my Vita on the strangely addictive Tokyo Jungle and it works pretty well.
PS Vita to get HD Collections via Remote Play

Downloadable update enables God of War and Shadow of the Colossus PS3 collections to be played remotely on the PS Vita.
PS Vita owners will soon be able to play titles like God of War and Shadow of the Colossus on their handheld console, thanks to a new Remote Play application announced by Sony.
The downloadable application enables users to interact remotely with a PlayStation 3, using the PS Vita handheld and a Wi-Fi connection.
The updates for Ico and Shadow of the Colossus Collection and the God of War Collection can each be downloaded for free, and will allow the HD collection games to be played on the Vita through Remote Play.
The application also enables users to access music, videos and photos stored on their PS3, using the PS Vita.
Earlier this year, Sony confirmed that the PlayStation Vita had sold 2.2 million units.
Big-name projects headed to the PS Vita include the previously announced Assassin's Creed III: Liberation and Call of Duty: Black Ops Declassified, as well as the new Killzone: Mercenary.

This availability is of course the answer for wanting to still play your old games if you're not me and didn't keep the games you still want to play the first time you invested in them.
so far, i only watch movies using Remote Play as sony decided to take 10 years for them to enable games to play with Remote Play (but the movie streamed from the ps3 still look awesome and still looks like it's in full hd even on vita. idk. it's just beautiful)
Uh... Your PS3 has to be on to be able to remote play GOW right? So that's not good to the environment. If you have a PS3 and a Vita in your house, I think you can at least afford another TV for the PS3 in case your Dad wants to watch the news in the living room.

Thanks good news. Almost worth Re-buying God of War. I have all of the games so I wasn't going to bother. I shall try the remote play feature with ICO/shadow of the Colossus first since I don't own either of those games. Hopefully Sony will enable more games to use Remote play. The PSP version really wasn't worth it. PSvita hopefully will be better.
1 Like has anyone used remote play on the Vita?? its so grainy and unclear. its like watching an SD video on youtube... nothing to be excited about... and besides... if your using your home wifi, wouldnt you just play it through your PS3?? its better on tv. ... if im away from home and using a wifi signal from outside, i dont like the idea of leaving my ps3 on at home... scared it will overheat.

That is pretty sweet mode for the Vita. I'm liking that they announced too, extra copies of certain games if you buy them for PS3. PSAllStars is one such game, comes with the Vita version free.
It's a nice touch. I'm assuming that you have to already own the Ico & SoTC and God of War Collection for the PS3 before you can download it to the PSVita. Does this also work for the God of War Saga and Sly Cooper collection?
1 Like It's a start, but I want my PS3 games to play on my Vita as was promised. Was looking forward to having Demon/Dark Souls running through my Vita.
It's a great courtesy, but we can't expect this (or cross-buy) to become very widespread. Doing so would make selling Vita versions obsolete.
Giving away software to sell more hardware can always only be a short-term solution.
1 Like Remote Play is only as good as your Internet Signal... Good thing the PS3 I have linked with my Vita is hardlined and My Computer @ work is right next to our router... The idea is to have all PS games work on the Vita through remote play but they never gave a timeline when that would happen... It will slowly happen... SLOWLY... Kinda like trophies for MGS4...
@Rovelius @Swavo69420 yes it does, when you connect via remote play they give you to options, connect via a private network or connect via the internet. I have done both.

@Rovelius @Swavo69420 If that's true it's a bit pointless... But I'd say it does since the PSP's remote play worked over the net... But as Swavo said, the speed is very much restricted by the connection... Played most of FF9 via remote play before it was released on PSN, there were some very laggy times.
Finally! Now they can lower the price on the overpriced memory and get remote play to work with killzone 3 and I'll be happy, for now. ;)
@wasakawaka lol KZ3 remote play works they are just withholding it. We have seen it in action already and ppl with cfw on their ps3's can run it already. Sony is not the nicest company out there :/
@poopinpat @wasakawaka the remote play issues have nothing to do with Sony, it's the game developers who the issue rests with. They have to work on and release the updates that will allow their games to be compatible with the PSVita's remote play. Why has it taken so long? Well because for example, activision could release black ops 2 so we could play it through our PSVita when it launches, but then no one would buy Black ops declassified.
@residude @poopinpat @wasakawaka Considering the fact that Black Ops Declassified is being made by the same people that made Resistance: Burning Skies, no one will buy it anyway.
This is good news. I wonder if it will work across the Internet, or will the PS3 and Vita both have to be on the same LAN...
But my real question is: Why aren't they bringing this functionality to all PS3 games? Sure, you'd have to deal with the loss of the L2 and R2 triggers on the Vita, but I think this would be a tremendous selling point. I don't even want to imagine how many gamers would love to be able to continue their PS3 game while they're on the loo.

Imo , Sony needs to focus less on hd-cross-play ports and more on unique exclusive titles. I would rather see less of the option to play ps3 titles on the go and instead seeing more game experiences like Assassin's Creed III Liberation. A portable title should have enough for you to be willing to play it at home even. So far I can only count 2 or 3 titles tops that I would voluntarily play at home that wouldn't just be out-ranked by full ps3 versions.
1 Like I'm sorry but I have to fully disagree here when Sony first unveiled the PlayStation Vita I was under the impression that it would be able to play all PS3 games through remote play and thought that was a major selling point when I found out it was only a limited number of games that would be remote play compatible I was sorely disappointed. I think it would behoove Sony to make more PS3 games remote play compatible with the PlayStation Vita. I'd also like to see more games being released both on PlayStation Vita and PS3 and using the cross buy feature. I think positioning the PlayStation Vita as a portable PlayStation 3 would be the best possible strategy for Sony and I know it would guarantee my purchase.
New remote play app? I might be missing somthing here, but hasnt remote play been in existence for several years now? and its been on the VITA since the start
@Jehuty08 The existing Remote Play only allows a user to browse the XMB area on the PS3. It may even play music and videos (not sure, I haven't used it in a whlie) but it definitely does not play games. So this would be something new.
1 Like @theKSMM as it currently is, pretty much the only thing you cant do with remote play is mess with the ps3 settings. you can play games too, just not very many of them. the remote play had to be implemented on the game developers side. all ps1 games work fine though. Ive remote played them on both my psp and vita
2 Like It works great - I was messing about with GoW on my Vita last night through this. major +1 for Sony for getting their act together and doing this. Now we just need more games to work on it.
2 Like This is awesome. I hope Sony start doing this for more PS3 games. If they do this for a lot of games the Vita truly could become a portable PS3 in the truest sense. So just to be clear. This is only for these collections? Because I don't have teh GOW collection, but I do have GOW3 on disc. They haven't put up a patch for any of those games indivudually?
Anyway this really is all kinds of awesome, just like the Vita itself. I got it at launch and I've barely put the thing down!

They should also make it so you can turn on your ps3 remotely to go into remote play though. That way you could connect anywhere.
@chadwick1343 I've been thinking along that line of thinking as well since I got my psp go two years ago. It would be great if you could turn your ps3 on via psp instead of having to do it manuel style. Hopefully in the future they will make it avaible to do so..
@BlackBaldwin @chadwick1343 You can already do that... Just go to your PS3 remoteplay settings and turn it on. You can do it with both PSP and Vita.

It does work on Vita. Really, really well actually. It's clearly not 720 or 1080p (like you could tell that on a handheld anyway...), but it still looks markedly better than the PSP did.
Definitely not a stupid idea at all. It gives many PS3-only owners a great excuse to get a Vita once there are more and more games on this.
