Keita Takahashi prepping new installment in universe-creating series for Sony's flagship console; US release status unclear.
When Namco Bandai originally announced Beautiful Katamari in April 2007, it was slated to appear on both the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. However, by July, Namco Bandai had quietly dropped Sony's platform from the proceedings, opting instead to release the franchise's first current-generation installment only on the Xbox 360. Two years later, Namco Bandai now intends to resume plans to deliver franchise creator Keita Takahashi's off-kilter game to the PS3.
Famitsu revealed this week that Namco Bandai plans to release Katamari Damacy Tribute for the PS3 in Japan later this year. (Scans of the announcement were obtained by Japanese Web site InGamer and translated by GameSpot.)
According to Famitsu, Katamari Damacy Tribute will play out much like previous installments in the franchise. Famitsu notes that the PS3 edition of the game will feature two-player action. The article also mentions that music will again play a prominent role in the game, with a variety of well-known artists covering songs from previous games in the series. The game will also, "for the first time," support high-definition visuals in 1080p resolution, according to Famitsu.
Famitsu's article did not reveal whether the game will be released in other regions, and Namco Bandai of America had not responded to requests for comment as of press time.
I enjoyed Noby Noby boy because it was just pretty much a game about what can I do next with this environment. So I'd like to see this title on PSN soon.
I think that the lead developer on the original game was Keita Takahashi and he has nothing to do with the games anymore, recently made Nobi Nobo Boy. Namco are just milking this one way beyond it's sell by date. A great idea and game at first, but enough.
This will crown 2009 for me. :) Sooo many amazing games coming out, but this is probably my favorite series, so this is the number one on my list. Beside BlazBlue, or course.:P
One of my favorite series ever, but it's way too late to be releasing this. All my passion for the game died long ago. Thanks Namco.
Glad to hear another Katamari is coming. I've played and loved them all, just for their weirdness factor though they do get a but redundant. Still a great series though.
It's fun game. The boards get a little repetitive. I still like to play it now and then. Best played in versus.
Awesome, perhaps they'll add alot more to the game other than new characters and areas, perhaps new game play mechanics would be nice.
Im sure i'll love this game... almost as much as im gonna love poking fun at my dyslexic girlfriend trying to play it
Namco releasd the previous version x360 coz it was winning then bt the ps3 is going gr8 nw n theyve realized their mistake
lol, does anybody care about this series anymore? The first was a brilliant masterpiece, the second kinda samey, but with worse music, and the third a straight-up stomach-turning cash-grab by Scamco. They're not getting another dime out of me for Katamari anything unless I hear AMAZING things.
I can't wait. Even if it isn't released in the US, there isn't ANY reason why you can't import it. That's one of many great things about the PS3.
Good news even though I don't have a PS3. When I heard of Nobi Nobi Boy I was a bit scared, cause I thought Namco was planning to throw Katamari in the trash. Anyway, can't wait to see more of this game, another game for me to look forward for the PS3. I really want a PS3 :(
At least they will have the series's creator back for this installment...I hope it does come out here.
I guess its Xbox's turn to take a hit. I remember when a title used to come out on all mainstream consoles.... money hungry F'ers!
Long as they don't pull the stunt they did on the 360 where they locked off a fair bit of the gameplay content on the disc itself, and then charged users to unlock it.
If this isn't localized, I will definitely import it. Not like there's any story or dialogue I need to be concerned with.
Damn it! Japan gets all the good toys first. Noby Noby Boy left me feeling unsatisfied. I need more mindless rolling things up!
I really liked the first game, but I think this series has been less and less exciting with each sequel, I still hold the first as my favorite Katamari game, but I'm still hoping this next title will be worthy of changing my opinion about that
