Sony launches special section of PlayStation Store offering free games for those put out by PlayStation Network outage.
Last month, Sony announced it would be offering free games as a make-good to the 77 million people put out by the PlayStation Network data breach and downtime. However, when the PlayStation Store came back up this week after being offline for a month and a half, the promised gratis games were not available.
That changed today when Sony rolled out its Welcome Back program. The PlayStation Store now has a new section dedicated to offering the free content. In North America, PlayStation 3 owners can choose two games from the following list for complimentary download:
--Little Big Planet
--Super Stardust HD
--Wipeout HD + Fury
Meanwhile, PSP owners can choose a pair from this list of games for the handheld:
--Little Big Planet
In addition, the Welcome Back section of the PlayStation Store is offering a "PlayStation Plus: 30 Days Free" option that gives players access to the PlayStation Plus premium service for a month. Sony said that the service will not auto-renew and will expire 30 days after activation. Current PlayStation Plus subscribers will have 60 extra days of subscription added automatically at no charge.
The Welcome Back program will be available to PSN users through July 3. Sony has also posted a FAQ on the program on the PlayStation Blog detailing the program.
Hi I am having a major problem downloading Infamous. Everytime is gets to around 45% it just stops and starts from the beginning. Anyone else having this problem?
@Zero_Kull I think you need to download and install the Wipeout HD Demo and then activate the full game unlock, that should turn the Demo into the full game.
Ok, i was able to download the 2 PSP games and one PS3 game, but i don't know what's happening with the second PS3 game, it is Wipeout HD and the only file i can download is the Wipeout HD Full Game Unlocked, i installed the file and nothing. I already did all the Account Management thing and nothing, i can only download the demo or that same file that is only 100k, can someone tell me what else can i do please :(

Hey Sony!! How about Asia???? and also we want the free games given to US,,,, and also,, sony FYI,, Asia is not a dumpsite for old games and long restoration updates,, we also have feelings you know!!!
I would suggest GS to give the list for Europeans as well as there are variations. For Asia I don't know.
Wait, so even if I didn't have Playstation Plus, I can still download 2 FREE games to my PSP?! That's FREAKIN' SWEET!!!
I hope everyone was aware that you all gained access to a bunch of other free games if you signed up for the 30 Playstation Plus subscription. Sony's been offering many of its Playstation Plus exclusive titles for free since bringing the Playstation Store back online. I think all the games that were free through the Playstation Plus subscription goes back to being their regular price today though.
Thanks for the step by step instructions @GYMMYT ! I didn't choose the second game and the option disappeared but I've found it now. Infamous is awesome by the way.
I was able to get my 2 free PS3 games this morning. The first one downloaded OK, for the second one I had to go all the way back to the first page of the Welcome Back page and then select 2nd free game. I'll see what happens when I try to get the PSP games. I found this link which I hope will be of some help to those having problems: http://zoknowsgaming.com/2011/06/04/issues-downloading-games-psn-welcome-back-package-help/ @ blakeney Where did you see we're only allowed 3/5 freebies? I googled for a while and could not find anything about these limitations.
the 4 games do i want any of them no i dont like any of those games thanks for failing sony thanks for failing
What a bunch of incompetent low down and liyng bastards these guys at sony are. Well I own PSP, and I didn´t have space so before downloading I clicked on the "welcome back" Icon to see where it lead to...now I don´t have no games from the 4 to choose the promised 2. The network is obviously with some bugs... man they suck
i was only able to get 3 games off that special welcome back package. they should had made it more simple. very weird system of downloading.
@Lostsouls128 Please share how you sorted it!! I know loads of people including myself that messed up somewhere along the lines and didnt get all 3! I actually have 2 accounts eligable for the 3 free games.... messed up on my main acc and only got one, then messed up the second account after getting just 2!
Welcome back, resign up and give us your details... we'll get hacked again... this time we'll hire chimpanzee instead of orangutan to secure our network.
anybody know how to download a second game? i can't seem to see the sub menu. It has disappeared when i exit psn. Help would be good thanks.
I am fed up with this Welcome Back Program that was not made well. Same goes with constant errors and log-in issues. I feel for Sony regarding the hacking I would not want something like that to happen to my worst enemy. I don't sweat the free stuff so much I can just buy them if I want it badly. Same goes with the PSN Plus. I can just get the 17.99 three months package to try. I don't like the terms and policy and of the PSN Plus so I wont. I will be following E3 2011 closely in the next few days and will help me decide rather I keep my PS3 or get rid of it.
@MoK86, I am not advertising. I am just giving advice on why buy multiple memory cards that save only one game per card when you could buy one that could save about 8 games.
OK so now its 6/5/2011 and yet OMG sony still cant figure out whats going on. i chose my games and clicked on download and now i go back to see if its finished downloading and NO its not even on the list. i went to the sony site today to see what happen to my stuff and it shows i have nothing on my download list except for that lame theme. so now i read the help me area and it leads me to the transitions area and i have to click on the whole sony promotion and it leads me back to the games. NOW i clicked on the games i want AGAIN! and i clicked on DOWNLOAD as its told on the SONY WEBSITE and Still nothing it doesnt DOWNLOAD anything!! OMG! PSN SUCKS DUDE!! ehhh i shouldnt complain like i said before YOU GET WHAT YOU PAID FOR AND PSN IS FREE SO OH WELL i rather stick to my XBL 7yrs going on strong and never disappointing. THANK YOU XBOX I LOVE YOU
@Ex-DarkBlade terrible way to advertise memory cards from such a terrible company like GAMESLOP. ewww come on dude really?
@VarietyMage, if you have physical copies of Little Big Planet and Infamous then sell them to earn cash and download the digital copies so in the end you got money and have more space in your game library.
dang i wish i had more memory on my cards im just shy of fitting games on them oh well killzone fit on one i,ll just haft to wait and buy a new card for the next game
After all that crap, they still offer crap (some of which I have already). Screw it, I'm not bothering. It's not worth it. Maybe if they gave me something good...nah, they never will.
Know Sony don't have a any surpirses at E3 i hope they give us something since xboxlive getting new tools and xbox360 getting new games so what leaves us well just uncharted 3 and Res 3 anything else come on aslo want any news for GTA5 towowowow plz. thumbs up you agree with my mg
I'm In Egypt and i'm trying to login but the media go is forcing me to change the password while the website is under maintenance. will it stay under maintenance for the next 30 days ??
For you dummies and just plain lazy people who don't follow instructions well, here's how to get your free games: 1. Log on to PlayStation®Store 2. Click on the ?Welcome Back? tab in the upper left menu 3. Select ?Welcome Back Free PS3? Game 1? 4. Within the category, click on the ?Welcome Back Free PS3? Game 1? product and ?Get Now? 5. Select your free PS3? game*, and ?Download?* 6. Repeat steps 3-5 with ?Welcome Back Free PS3? Game 2? 7. Go to the XMB? to play your free games. *If you do not immediately select your free game after downloading Welcome Back Free PS3? Game 1 or Welcome Back Free PS3? Game 2, you need to perform the following steps in order to claim your free game: 1. Exit PlayStation®Store 2. From the XMB?: select ?Account Management? -> ?Transaction Management? -> ?Services List? -> ?SCEA Promotion? 3. Select ?Welcome Back Free PS3? Game 1? or ?Welcome Back Free PS3? Game 2? (whichever product has remaining uses) 4. Select ?Select Content? button and select your game Due to high traffic on PlayStation Store, you may encounter error messages or issues. We advise you to check back a little later and try again. If at any point you can't find the 'Welcome Back Free Game 1 or 2? products, the list of available titles or a game you've selected, go to your XMB > PlayStation Network > Account Management > Transaction Management > Services List > SCEA Promotions to complete the process.
Can't take advantage of this when my console, amongst others, are yellow-lighting. Believe me, if it was working fine, I wouldn't even have bothered writing this comment.
@Dudka26 No you aren't the only spoiled entitlement-issues one that feels that games that have gotten high praise are lame just because you have them all.
Am I the only one that thinks the free games are kind of lame. Same with the three seriously old movies to rent. I'm okay with the system being down and just coming back with nothing, but a money refund for PS Plus owners.
I cant install infamous it keeps having an error and i have dowmloaded it twice now. Aaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhh.
Tictac, the store was up two days ago. Several hours before this article was written. If you live outside the US, why haven't you bothered to simply go check the store out? Anyhow, it's odd and/or lazy that Thorsen writes "In North America..." when the PlayStation blog states "PS3 owners..." and thereby means all of their customers. I don't understand why his peers allow him to write like that. Only Germany has different Welcome Back content due to strict law against video game violence: " *For the German market, InFamous and Dead Nation will be replace with Super Stardust HD and Hustle Kings in the selection of PS3 games. Pursuit Force and Killzone Liberation will be replaced with Everybody?s Golf 2 and Buzz Junior Jungle Party in the selection of PSP games. Killzone Liberation will not offer online gameplay functionality. " You should really get your news directly from the PS blog instead. Gamespot, or should i say Tor Thorsen, usually either gets it wrong or writes in a sneaky way that angers one or more groups. Probably to further enthuse the international console war to continue, which judging from the immense amounts of comments that these articles get is one of their main ways to attract readers. http://blog.eu.playstation.com/2011/06/03/welcome-back-content-is-available-now-frequently-asked-questions-answered/
I ONLY GOT 1 GAME!!!! but this doesnt bother me, what bothers me is the fact that the store is missing about 6 issues of first play and nothing seems to be happening about it wtf sony!
