Collection of six silver and gold action figures drawing huge premium in online auction house with more than a day left to go.
How much is too much to pay for a collection of toys? eBay bidders for Activision's Skylanders: Spyro's Adventure have weighed in with their wallets and are offering close to $1,000 for rare Skylanders toys.
Bidding on an eBay listing (spotted by Game Informer) for a collection of six rare gold- and silver-hued Skylanders toys has reached $948 from 32 bids as of press time on Friday, with more than a day left to go. The characters themselves are available at retail for about $10, but not colored gold and silver.
The eBay seller is based out of the United Kingdom, with shipping fees estimated to cost around $50, before any applicable additional charges.
During its financial report last week, Activision said it had sold 20 million Skylanders toys. Additionally, a new Skylanders title--Skylanders Giants--is due out this fall. As its name suggests, that game will feature larger Skylanders characters, as well as some that light up.

what?! really?! 900$?! i can't stand buying that stuff. it's just a waste of money.
i'll tell you that i won't suggest to buy this stuff even it's the rare stuff. but i won't complain to supper rich people. don't you know how much we can spent on this amount of money. if you think you will buy this i suggest you should to donate this money for poor people or other organizations that needs money. it'd be better.
I would laugh at this but....
people on E-Bay are kinda stupid....
if you are willing to pay $200 for a crumpled up piece of paper you are stupid, someone bought a crumpled piece of paper for $200.
If you saw half the crap people sell and buy on E-Bay you'd laugh or cry depending on your take on it....
However here's the brighter side of E-Bay....there are some good deals to be found there just gotta look deeper.....
I think Skylanders is a very clever product that is making a good profit - imagine if they did that with Pokemon back in the day. Jeez.
Oh, so this is what that little, loud display is all about at my local GameStop. I'll have to not pay attention to it like I usually do on my next visit.
Does anyone know about a Skylander not painted? I bought one, Wrecking Ball, and he's not at all painted. He has a base color (like a fluorescent yellow-white) and no detail painting at all. Has anyone heard of this? I haven't removed him from the package yet. Any info would be most helpful.
What I think is really sad is that Activision is making their developer, Toys for Bob, focusing completely on this skylanders franchise. I wish they rather have the pull to Activision's powers at be to make the Star Control II proper sequel that TfB's heads Fred Ford and Paul Richie III have been promising for years now.
What I think is sad, the company could of re brought out these figures and made a lot of money, by re bringing out the rare ones, making them easier to find, while since of there bad way of production some people will be rich, while the company who originally made them won't see a dime, it is kinda funny while sad. Honestly when I seen how much they went for at regular price I could drop that amount of money on a figure that only takes so many hours to max out.
Very little in life actually has intrinsic value. humans can survive on very little. The only things in life with actual intrinsic value are food, water and shelter. These things sustain us and everything else is just fluff. Given that you are on this website, I can assume you are a gamer. Given that you are a gamer, I can assume a percentage of your income goes towards many items with no intrinsic value. Given that you yourself buy things with no intrinsic value on a regular basis, but criticize others for doing the same thing, I can assume that you are a hypocrite. It would be just as easy to say you think Skylanders is dumb...which I would agree with. @GunnyHath
@ granasaberx Oh the one posted just shy of a month before his wonderful comment......well I posted one 4 days before he was smart enough to read the first post, he is still trying to read iamnessie's comment so I guess he will comment on my 2nd post before long and maybe even my 3rd one by the end of the year. I don't try to start arguments on a web site, but I am not going to tolerate some immature idiot calling me ignorant when they clearly have no idea who I am or simply anything what so ever about me. If people just have rude and stupid things to say they need to keep it to themselves. This is for people to comment on the article at hand and not to trash other individuals on their thoughts. The rule everyone should live by is to respect people if they want respect in return, but thank you for pointing out that I had the old post that was in all caps, I almost forgot about it! You have a great day!
@ StJimmy15 Wow I used caps on 2 words in the entire post and you want to call me ignorant.....Only a ignorant retard would even find anything at all good in this article. If all you know how to do is worry about someone using a cap on a couple of words you need to get a life and leave posts to people with some sense in there brains.
lol reminds me of pokemon cards back in the day. My local market was selling shiney ones for like 100 quid...I remember seeing that dragon being sold for 175 quid. I have never even heard of this game, or what its about.
@Killer6b9 Using all caps doesn't get your point across. It makes you look ignorant. On topic, this is ridiculous, but incredibly awesome for the people selling.
Yep was just in the store last night and seen almost every single one of these toys on the self including the start off pack with the game, pad, and 3 figures.........who wants to shell out a grand for them???? I will go buy them today and you will have them over night express delivery.......just what I thought NO ONE! Wish I had money to just burn on retarded nonsense....
Surely an idiot WOULDNT buy ('stock up') on these figures from the high st stores and then sell them off individually on ebay... Im surprised all this is legal... XD ...until you find out that the toy company have decided to reproduce some of the rare figures, theres money to be made! Not that I could be bothered doing any of it myself. I almost feel sorry for those that are actually spending £100+ on these individual out of the box figures, used or not, just to please their kids.. or themselves, lol
i work at Toys R Us and we gave those figures away for free when people bought the starter kit. Something free went for 2 months worth of my checks.
@SnakeEyesX80 It's cool, the money part that is. Don't you think it's interesting how something worth only $10 can get bumped to $1000 just based on popular demand ? That's a 90% increase in value!
Why are adults buying these things? I was at the store over the weekend and there was two 20 somethings upset because the store hadn't received their shipment of Skylander toys. This is Beanie Babies madness all over again. lol!
Skylanders should have had the figures be more like action figures the kids could play with away from the video game. The chip that is read by that light up base should have been placed in something that could be separated from the actual figure.
My wife and eldest lad are playing Skylanders in the lounge right now while I am stuck in here "working" :D
I betcha out of the 32 bids...most of it was a shill bidding. I'm not going to pay a $1k for such a toy like that.
Thats why there Ultra Rare, in 10 years these will be worth 10's of thousands of dollars.... Its called an investment ppl like the ppl that pay 5 dollars for a silver quarter. The value only goes up.
My friend and I love Skylanders, but that's just ridiculous especially since they don't even look that good. What's so special about the gold and silver ones compared to the regular ones?
US$ 1,260.46 ... Wow! Things are what people are ready to pay for those! Wasn't me who invented capitalism... hehe!
And to think that pokemon used to be like this on eBay *facepalm* Use your brains people! That's if you have any!!!
