Japanese publisher confirms production on at least one more project from Vanquish, Bayonetta studio, but mum on additional details.
In October, Sega and Platinum Games shipped Vanquish, a high-octane third-person shooter directed by Shinji Mikami that ostensibly brought to a close the four-game deal the two companies signed in 2008. The critically--if not always commercially--successful collaboration also saw the release of the highly regarded Bayonetta, as well as MadWorld and Infinite Space for Nintendo's platforms.
Now, it appears as if Sega and Platinum Games have at least one more title up their sleeves. In a recent interview with GameStop-owned Game Informer magazine, Sega of America vice president of sales and marketing Alan Pritchard confirmed that his company will be extending its development contract with Platinum Games.
"We have a further title to announce from Platinum Games," he said in this month's issue of the magazine. Pritchard offered no other details on the project.
Platinum Games was formed in 2006 from the remains of Capcom's shuttered Clover Studio, which created such highly regarded hits as Okami, Viewtiful Joe, and God Hand. Counted among the studio's talent are Atsushi Inaba (producer of Viewtiful Joe), Shinji Mikami (Resident Evil creator), and Hideki Kamiya (director of Devil May Cry and Okami).
Sega has not yet revealed which of Platinum Games' talent will be directing its latest collaboration. However, an unlikely selection would be Mikami. Fresh off his role leading Vanquish development, the Japanese creator has since unveiled his collaboration with Suda-51's Grasshopper Manufacture, Shadows of the Damned. Further, Bethesda Softworks acquired Mikami's development startup Tango Gameworks in October.
@KuRf "were awesome" man... "were" awesome. lol This company is pretty cool. Vanquish wasn't the best game of the year, but it is a gem that was passed by too quickly. I feel bad for sega. A lot of their good gets looked over. That company needs to change it up a little bit. Regardless of their faults... Sega does what NintenDON'T. \\m//
Thats good, im glad they will continue the relationship between Sega and Platinum. Bayonetta is by far the best action-game i ever played.
I would wonder if they could make an origional game, with cameo appearnces from different characters from their past games but in a way that it is barely noticible unless if fans of the game played it. It is a nice idea, but I know that whatever platnum games have got up their sleve they would have already figured out what they are going to make by now.
I remember getting Vieutiful Joe for the Gamecube and really enjoying it. Never had Okami but from the look and feel of it from the videos I have seen on Youtube I would think it was also a highly regarged game that I would have enjoyed. Madworld was perhaps not my cup of tea but still fun in a unique sort of way. And Bayonetta is really good too. I also got Infinate Space for the DS and I have really enjoyed that game with its mix of space opera and ship to ship battles. All the best for Platnum games, it is good to see that SEGA is supporting them well.
Everyone saying Bayonetta 2 and Vanquish 2, should forget it. Platinum have stated many times that they're committed to bringing new IP's. Whatever this game is, it won't be a sequel.
sega sucks in promoting . bayonetta was a beautiful and very nice game also Resonance of Fate was great and different then lots of other games. Vanquish was great but very very short
@Tarfang2 Dude seriously how could you and other people on this notice board not heard of Bayonetta!!!! It was extremely well marketed, and got glowing reviews, plus there was the controversy surrounding the PS3 port which was eventually sorted out with a hefty data install. I mean an example of how well marketed it was that I was got it by my wife and she hates gaming. As for Vanquish I was really disappointed, it was a great game to play, but once through and that was it. I still own Bayonetta, and if any of you are having trouble finding it, I would check Amazon, Blockbusters and Game(or your countries equivalents) where it can be picked up for about £12.
Sega would be stupid to let such a successful studio go.... lets hope they dont make Platinum make crappy games...
How I wished Platinum Games would forever make games for Sega. Let's hope for their last game to be their best for Sega :P
I hope it's not a sequel, I enjoyed Bayonetta and Vanquish but I'd prefer to see a new game from Platinum and Sega. Madworld... I think it didn't sell well at all, and the music was really annoying to play it for long. It would be nice if Sega's big honchos decided to buy Platinum Games, I think it would be worth every penny.
Have you seen Vanquish is 'one of the best games no one playded'? Grahhhhh... and I can't find Bayonetta for the 360! seeing all this comments makes me wonder how much I lost.
This i like! PlatinumGames actually make fun, enjoyable games. I just hope the next game is as good as Vanquish and Bayonetta and actually sells a truck load!
i had never even herd of bayoneta until the game awards 2010 were it was in the best game section that just proves how bad sega's publishing team is
I hope it's not a sequel they seem to be full of awesome ideas and they can deliver on them too, I want to see what whacky stuff they can come up with next.
I feel bad for Sega, Platinum Games made killer titles that can sparkle killer franchises, somehow they undersold, and have a deserving impact on the industry. I'm worried about Sega. Their publishing side isn't on bar with the developing one.
If Sega have any brain (which I highly doubt, based on their records of not giving the fans what they want and treating them like crap), they should hold on to Platinum for dear life.
Vanquish and Bayonetta were very unique and I enjoyed them, I just hope Sega doesnt over do it. @SeraphimGoddess Of course Sonic will sell more, He's Sega's Mascot!
Platinum is about the only source of continuously above-average games Sega has at this point, so I'm glad to hear this. But of course the next Sonic game, whatever it will be, will go on to gets three times as many sales as all of Platinum's games combined. >:
Vanquish was amazing! Its just that you can't help, but to think that they could use better Voice Actors or dialog overall.
Platinum Games was formed in 2006 from the remains of Capcom's shuttered Clover Studio, which created such highly regarded hits as Okami, Viewtiful Joe, and God Hand. Counted among the studio's talent are Atsushi Inaba (producer of Viewtiful Joe), Shinji Mikami (Resident Evil creator), and Hideki Kamiya (director of Devil May Cry and Okami). wow shinji mikami and hideki kamiya? this two developer are crazy, especially kamiya (i love okami!!)
id be yelling with a smile from one of those viagra commercials if i was the publisher. with the track record you know the next tittle is gonna be hot $#!+ worth tons a $$$!
SEGA should market more heavily. To be honest, this is the first time I've seen an article about them that wasn't about Sonic in years.
platinum games is so underrated, only core gamers recognize their games its sad but true. but good move sega considering that is the only studio that is holding you tightly in the west
These guys are beast! Sega would be stupid to not release more games from Platinum. In fact, Platinum are the best thing to happen to Sega in the past decade.
