Epic Games actioner and crossover fighter headline second Summer of Arcade lineup with TMNT: Turtles in Time, Splosion Man, and Trials HD.
Typically, Microsoft lets each Wednesday's Xbox Live Arcade launch plans remain a mystery until Monday morning. But when the company lays out a month's worth of releases at once--as it did with the original Xbox Live Arcade Wednesday program and last year's Summer of Arcade--it peppers the schedule with highly anticipated releases.
Xbox Live director of programming Larry "Major Nelson" Hryb today announced Microsoft's 2009 Summer of Arcade, a series of five games set to be released over five weeks in July and August. The promotion starts off July 22 with Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Turtles in Time Re-shelled, a 3D remake of the four-player arcade game. The other revamped quarter gobbler in the lineup arrives July 29, as Marvel vs. Capcom 2 takes its 2D tag-team fighting online. (Capcom has yet to confirm the game's PlayStation 3 launch date.)
With both remakes out of the way, the August Summer of Arcade lineup will feature original titles, starting with Twisted Pixel Games' volatile platformer Splosion Man on August 5. The season will then draw to a close with the August 12 release of the motorcycle platformer Trials HD and August 19's Shadow Complex. Debuted during Microsoft's E3 press conference this year, Shadow Complex is a side-scrolling action adventure title developed by Chair Entertainment and Epic Games.
Notably absent from the list is Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment's The Watchmen: The End Is Nigh Part 2. When asked why that game was set to launch on the Xbox 360 August 26--a month after its PC and PS3 counterparts--a WBIE representative told GameSpot it was pushed back for the program.
[UPDATE]: Hryb updated his post with a schedule change. The release dates for Splosion Man and Turtles in Time Re-Shelled have been swapped. The updated schedule and prices for the second Summer of Arcade are listed below:
July 22--Splosion Man--800 Microsoft points ($10)
July 29--Marvel vs. Capcom 2--1,200 Microsoft points ($15)
August 5--Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Turtles in Time Re-shelled--1,200 Microsoft points ($15)
August 12--Trials HD--1,200 Microsoft points ($15)
August 19--Shadow Complex--1,200 Microsoft points ($15)
Splosion Man=Stupid. Maj. Nelson just lost cool points for not releasing TMNT first! Grrr.. Now i gotta wait two more weeks for turtle time >.
xbox 360 first splosion 800 + then Turtles in time 1200 +then shadow complex 1200 =3200 = perfect games last one mvs2 ps3 you know dpad
Turtles in time looks cool... 1200p? abit much MVC2 looks cool wasnt a massive fan 1200p? Trials looks sweet too Shadow Complex on the other Hand looks AWESOME! Plus its a full game,10 hour long Campaign and extras...they could of released it as a Disc and sold it.So for 1200p im down and xbox exclusive, i cant wait! Ill probley get others also... I love xbox live arcade, Im big on retro games, and xbox brings some awesome oldies
You might want to update that list Brendan, as now Splosion Man and Teenage Mutant have switched places on the calendar.
The only message I want to see in the coming week is a realese date for M Vs C on ps3 all else is stupidity
Aww man! I would love to buy that TMNT game as I still own the original SNES game. I really must get a 360 at some point. Come on and a release a 360 slim already M$! Then I'm sold!
Wait, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Turtles in Time Re-shelled is not coming to Playstation Network? I'm not bringing my xbox360 out and then paying $15 bucks to play that. Which is bs. Battlefield1943 played the demo..nothing special for $15 bucks...you can get Unreal Tournament 3 for about the same price if not cheaper...MVC 2 I'll probably get that for my ps3 Don't see whats the big hype over a game like that.
I'll picking up three of them: Turtles in Time, MVC 2, and Shadow Complex. Before Battlefield 1943, I hadn't bought an Arcade title for about a year. So far, this will be 4 this year including Battlefield 1943. Nice.
MvC2 for PS3 also comes on the 29th read it on Kotaku but i cant wait for Shadow Complex and MvC2 especially MvC2 i alrdy know that game will be amazing but Shadow Complex looks awesome too
hahahaahha everybody took it the wrong way hahaha. We were all scared the price would go back up. aha ah ha ha...ha ha ha...
A -5 rating on my comment? I meant to say its a good thing that Epic and Capcom were not allowed to overprice their games. $20+ for an arcade game? : /
@ColdP1zza whoa dude... keep it down, maybe they forgot okay, lets just go with the flow... this is a GOOD thing. Dont complain about a good thing. Just go about your business like they never said that at all okay.
I can't believe TMNT is $15. I mean, ok, it's an HD remake, but the TMNT The Arcade Game is only $5!! MS is getting way too overpriced on their XBLA games. They are bordering into retail zones, and arcade games shouldn't be that pricey.
finally a date MVC 2 coming out to. sheesh i been waiting alot since i been hearing june 29th then mid july. but it sux because its coming out near august and i start college the 3rd week of august i prolly wont play alot if im lucky weekends.
Bummer, I was hoping that was a date for both platforms. Lucky for the 360 owners out there; here's hoping Turtles in Time comes out on the PSN as well.
this is some bull sony has to get it together i know i am not the only ps3 owner and fighting game fan who has been waiting impatiently ... N at first it was supposedly going to release 7/7 n know there is not a exact release day this is horrible. Xbox 360 Owners have it so good with their network.. SOny please get on ya grind
Anyone else picture a pair of googly eyes and a big open mouth on that screen shot? Prices for online games are usually too steep and stay that way. I don't see where all the sticker shock is coming from.
DAMN! my plans are dashed! I got $40 bucks on my xbox,15$ for M vs.C2, 15$ for gears of war 2 DLC, and I was thinking $10 for TMNT...oh well my visa will have to do some work...
Only $15 for shadow complex... I was sure that was going to be the game they started raising the rates with again...
Actually I was hoping Shadow Complex would be released a bit sooner. Its the ONLY one I look for when I'm surfing xbox live arcade for new games.
sure i will buy marvel vs capcom 2 but that is just so messed up that it is 1,200 marketpoints, for real i would be alot happier if it was 800 but oh well i guess that they wanna be cheap.
That's BS, what ever happened to $5 arcade games? Now the cheapest ones are $10 and paying $15 for ninja turtles is just insane.
Awwwwww YEAH!!! Marvel vs. Capcom 2 and Shadow Complex FTW!!! I'm more excited about MvC2 than anything else, but both look awesome nonetheless. Can't wait.
For half the price of a new game I can download 2 must own games that will keep me and my company well occupied... not bad!
July 29th!?!? I'm leaving the country that day! NOOOOOOOO!!! I have to wait till I come back in the end of August!!!
