Shadow of Destiny falling on PSP in 2010
Classic PS2, PC adventure game will be resurrected on Sony's portable next year, offer multiple endings to murder mystery solved by murder victim.
In March 2001, Konami shipped Shadow of Destiny for the PlayStation 2. More than eight-and-a-half years later, the Japanese publisher announced it is working on a PSP port of the adventure game, which received solid reviews on the PS2 and decent marks on its PC port in 2002. (The game was also released for the original Xbox in Europe and Australasia.)
Despite the diminishing returns from critics, Konami is keen to promote the forthcoming PSP port, which it says will arrive next year. Shadow of Destiny will stick to the original's storyline, which casts players as a young man who must find his own murderer. To do so, he must solve puzzles and time travel between the 16th century and the present day, picking up clues that lead him to the killer.
As was the case with the T for Teen-rated original, Shadow of Destiny will have multiple endings determined by player's choices in the game. It will be released sometime in 2010, although no specific quarter is named. For more on the original, check out GameSpot's previous coverage.
I never played this game before, but i bet it's going to be sweet. Anyways, i've haven't played one of these kind of adventure games in a while, so i can finally switch up for something interesting.
This game will be awesome like the first one
Huh. I really don't know what to say. I think it's gonna be either a classic or a complete fail.
Reading about this article makes me want to play Indigo Prophecy again...
Shadow of Destiny for the PSP... interesting to see that they're bringing a REAL adventure title to the PSP after so long.
@ DJCartmell "I wish they'd make a sequal to Shadow of Destiny it was a game worthy of one!" They did make a spiritual successor on the DS called Time Hollow.
I've played this game twice on PS2. It's a very good game, time travel and puzzles along the way. I'm glad I will be able to play it soon on my PSP.
WHAT?! ive wanted to play this for soo long xD now I have to buy a new psp
This game was so far ahead of it's time. It took story telling in (console) games to a new level. The problem was it was being hyped as "from the makes of Silent Hill" and the game was nothing like Silent hill at all.
Nice dude, that's cool!
excellent news, this game is fun and underapeciated on ps2
It was the first game that really made me realise we'd moved on a generation... until then a lot of PS2 games were just PS1 games with better graphics... same as has happened with the PS3 before Uncharted kicked in.
I only got this game second-hand 2 months ago when I returned Genji:days of the blade for a full refund and got MGS2 and Shadow of Memories/Shadow of Destiny (Lucky me! 1 crap game for 2 awesome ones) BTW I agree with everyone who says there should be a sequel ^_^
Ahhhh.. I'm glad that games coming to PSP. I played the original and (though a little trial and error-ish and slightly frustrating) loved it!! I don't have a PSP but it feels good that more people will be able to appreciate a great game that is Shadow of Destiny/Shadow of Memories ..... ^_^ Enjoy PSP-ers
I never understood that game.
I just hope they dealt with all the bloody jaggies. I mean, ugh. It was one of the most horribly jagged games of the PS2 library.
Oh good, they're releasing it here after all. I highly recommend anyone who likes adventure games play this. It truly is one of the more under-apperciated classics.
I absolutely loved Shadow of Destiny! It was in a way the Heavy Rain of the PS2 generation and therefor ahead of it's time. I am 38 year old and love games like Shadow of Destiny and wish there were more of them. Knowing that it's hitting the PSP makes me want to go out and buy a PSP right away! And anyone that loved Shadow of Destiny I am sure would love Heavy Rain as in a way it is Shadow of Destiny on steroids.
this game was awesome one the best games that came out for the PS2 early on I would love to play it on my psp
This game was great. So different from most other games out during the same time. Will definitely look forward to playing this game again!
Wow, I can't believe there are 27 other people who played this. It was the epitome of an awesome game that nobody's ever heard of, and it'll be good to go through it again.
Shadow of Destiny is one of the greatest games, if you ask me.
Kind of feels like an april-fools joke in that Shadow of Destiny for the PSP is a bit unexpected.
I wanted to play this game for a long time...So good news man..
holy crap this is great news! i loved this game! and now i can play it again
This was one of the reasons I bought a PS2 in the first place... great game criminally ignored by most of the public.
This was a good game. Nice to see it still has some life left in it.
one of my favorite games.
"Classic PS2, PC adventure game ..." It was released for the Xbox as well (in Europe).
I play this game every few years. And I've mostly have different endings. Its a great game, but if you want to know the whole story, your gonna have to play it a couple of Times. Your actions not only changes the story, but which information your getting about certain desceptions and the like. Lets hope this leads to a sequel on the "newer" consoles.
I wish they'd make a sequal to Shadow of Destiny it was a game worthy of one!
I played it on PC a long time ago and loved it. Based on the changes in the new port, I might get the PSP version too.
Wait, what? They're going to release this as a full priced port? A game that can be gotten for like 3 bucks on PC and 5 for PS2? They're... not really pulling a smart one here. It's an okay game but not the greatest. Honestly I have no idea what they're trying to do besides milk an unlikely game for money.
i found this game for PC for 5 bucks at a store i loved it
Wow. Least likely PSP port ever. Still, it was a cool game with a neat concept. Coulda been better executed though.
This was the first PS2 game I ever played. A friend of mine lent me the game and the system. This game was awesome and made me want to get a PS2. But it doesn't make me want to get a PSP.
time travelling + lotsa ways to die = worth the purchase
oh hell yeah.....we meet again Homunculus
YES! Thank you, Konami! Automatic buy for me.
By far one of my favorite PS2 games since my father got it the day after he got a PS2. Tons of fun. They should add additional content though.
This game was really fun. I wish they'd come out with more games like it. Glad to see that it's being revived for a second go.
I loved this game. Can't believe they're releasing a port after all these years. Would love to see another installment on the PS3.
This was a great game. It's really too bad they don't make more like this.
Cool, I'll definitely buy it.
This game had a great plot. It was like a Final Destination movie. The guy gets murdered, then given a second chance with a time travel device and knowing how he dies he can prevent his own death. But he finds that as he avoids one murder he is killed a different way the next day, and must keep saving himself with the device while figuring out who is behind his murder and why they are trying to kill him. It spans multiple eras and has some plot branching with 5 or 6 endings. The graphics are a bit dated though, but they should be fine for a PSP title. Worth playing if you've never played it before, but it's not a long experience.
YES YES YES #$*# YES MY FAVEOUTITE GAME OF ALL TIME IS GETTING ANOTHER PORT. PLEASE people buy this game because id love to see a new installment
Hey I was just thinking of buying this the other week. Awesome news
\o/ this game was great!
