Square Enix Xbox 360 role-playing game leads busy slate of releases including Mario Super Sluggers, Tiger Woods, Tales of Vesperia, and more.
Things are picking up on the retail release front. After three straight weeks of slim launch schedules highlighted by notable games, August gets its first cluttered slate of new releases, with at least a half-dozen games sharing the spotlight.
The Xbox 360 has traditionally been a bit weak in the Japanese role-playing game category, but this week the system sees two major releases on that front. Namco Bandai's Tales of Vesperia will ship to stores on Tuesday, and Square Enix's Infinite Undiscovery heads out on Friday and should make a rare weekend debut on shelves.
The PlayStation 3 also features a bit of J-RPG flavor this week, thanks to the release of NIS America's tactical strategy game Disgaea 3: Absence of Darkness. The current-generation debut for the series will retain the lighthearted-yet-sinister style of its predecessors, as well as the 2D sprite characters in isometric 3D backgrounds
Wii gamers aren't entirely left out of the J-RPG trend, given that Nintendo has added the TurboGrafx-16 CD-ROM RPG Ys Book I & II to its Virtual Console offerings. The combo pack will sell for 800 Wii points ($8). Also added to the online store were NeoGeo fighter Samurai Shodown II for 900 Wii points ($9), and the WiiWare debut of Ghostfire Games' rhythm offering Helix for 1,000 Wii points ($10). As for boxed retail offerings, Nintendo is stepping up to the plate with Mario Super Sluggers, which features a variety of Mushroom Kingdom regulars in an amped-up take on America's pastime.
Super Sluggers isn't the only sports action on tap this week. Electronic Arts ships Tiger Woods PGA Tour 09 for the Xbox 360, PS3, Wii, PlayStation 2, and PlayStation Portable. The big addition to EA's golfing franchise this year comes in the form of Hank Haney, Woods' real-life golf coach. Haney takes players through a variety of skill-assessing tutorials to determine player aptitude in putting, short-game, accuracy, and power.
Finally, The Behemoth's long-awaited Xbox Live Arcade brawler Castle Crashers is finally set for release this Wednesday. The game will cap off the Summer of Arcade promotion when it launches for 1,200 Microsoft points ($15).

A lot of good games, but the last game... Another Tycoon? They make way to many tycoons, like hospital, school, prison, beer, construction and a lot of other silly tycoons.
DA_SHREDDER > Personally I would rather play SOCOM as well (a LOT of fond memories with that series online), but I have to say GEARS has very a very low learning curve. Hell, they give you the tuturial right at the beginning of the game, which shows everything you need to know and thats the A button. And a full clip to kill one enemy? Are you actually aiming or blindfiring? This ain't GTA4... Castlecrashers, Infinite Undiscovery, and Disgaea 3 are what I...well would be looking for. Honestly, I can't play D3 simply because I dont have a PS3. When will the announce Disgaea 2 on the PSP?!
they all sound good, but I've been waiting for the harvest moon game for a wile, it was sappose to come out on tuesday, here it is saterday, the 30th and the stores around where i live still don't have it, was hopeing someone could tell me if Nova Scotia is the only place that doesn't have it
Would have liked to have seen the developers of Infinite Undiscovery to have made the game for the PS3 also.
Da shredder you need just stop talking because you made you self look soo dumb, a learning curve in gears? are you serious? that right there shows that you never played the game, you sony fanboy. Gears is a fun and simple game to play if your having a hard time with gears put down the control and walk away from gaming because gears focus is around the A button it does everything for you so good job showing everyone here how much of a gamer your not. and as far as the other comments on my comment, I feel that Little Big planet isn't the game for me, and usually Customising games like little big planet with no story just constant customising gets boring after a while. But hey if you like games like that then like it, but as far as i know it isn't out yet so why are you people defending a game that isn't released yet? and of course your looking forward to it a ps3 game with a RELEASE DATE is a amazing site. My PS3 gets really excited because they are soo far apart, and when they do come out they usually let me down (Lair, heavanly Sword being so short, Haze need i say more) with a few exceptions (Uncharted and ratchet and clank)I'm not a fan of MGS4 and no i don't think the graphics surpass Gears. When i play MGS4 i get mad when i see the flat sides of the tanks and the crapy looking environments (They look good from far but since most of the game is played on the floor or in a corner i get a lot of looking time)Gears is the best looking game in my OPINION next is uncharted and then bioshock shoot i have motorstorm in front of MGS4. I'm not a fanboy but a gamer I own all the systems and i judge as fairly as possible Hate me if you like but remember to put Sony brand on your forhead because they now own you because you can't see the deseption and distractions that they are pulling and the hype you are believeing but not seeing. so go and say what you want you won't change what i think and i know i won't change what you think but if you do get a chance get a 360 and enjoy it as a gamer I have them all because if a good game comes out i want to play it and so should every gamer out there and maybe one day we can stop with all the fanboyism (DA SHREDDER)
Gears isnt even a good game,,,, It takes a whole clip just to kill someone and the learning curve is freaking retarded. Also, I dont know why everyone is so hyped for Gears 2. Oh wait,, ya I do. Its cause Gears 2 is the only exclusive shooter even worth mentioning about on the 360. I would rather play Socom then that piece of crap again.
Why are they releasing another Vampire Rain?! I could see going back to the drawing board and redoing a game and trying to make it better, but I wouldn't have given my game anything close or similar to the same title as that disaster.
afilgueirasjr I have the 360 and the PS3, playing Gears of War now after playing for the first time in co-op a couple of years ago. It's a game you need to play with buddies or else it gets boring real fast.
Obviously you dont have a ps3 chad. Ive played geometry wars and was not impressed. Their is a game called Super Star Dust HD that blows that game away. Also, for everyone talking about fallout 3,, I think that game is totally overrated. Ive had friends go to E3 this year and they said the game is pretty much bland and was one of the ugliest games @ E3..
afilgueirasjr.....how do you figure someone who has been looking forward to the release of Little Big Planet is going to play it for 15 minutes and then be bored ???? Do you have any idea what this game is about ? If there are millions of people playing Geometry Wars, a game with stunning graphics and such deep gameplay, why dont you think Little Big Planet will have any replay value ?
For agilgueirasjr I played gears at a friends for many hours and I admit it is a good game, however, Metal Gear Solid 4 has superior graphics. 08 for sony is a excellent year by the way with Metal Gear Solid 4 being the starting point which will be followed by: Resistance 2 (60 player online with two different campaign modes one single player and another co-op) Soccom:Confrentation (the true tatical shooter) MotorStorm2(the best arcade racer)LittleBigPlanet (something many people have been looking forward too even if you dont like it) Playstation Home (the revolutionary way for gamers to communicate on consoles)and by the way GT5 Killzone 2 and God of War 3 will be coming out in 09 to let you know.
Dang it, I just bought Samurai Shodown last week. I would have waited for Samurai Shodown 2. I wish they would release these on Samurai games on X-Box Live.

ninjabenja Yea Fallout 3 is coming out for all systems but the 360 will get exclusive DLC, and as far as the PS3 having better exclusives where are they 2008 was supposed to be the year for PS3 because Final Fantasy 13 (Now coming to the 360)and Killzone 2(Delayed to 09) GT5 (No one has any idea when this game is coming out) God of War 3 (also no idea when its coming out) do you see where i'm going with this. i Agree with psycholord in that i use my PS3 more for ps2 games and if a game is multiplatform i get it on the 360 because i know i will get more of it on the 360. 08 was supposed to be for the PS3 but it ended up going to he 360 because of Gears 2 and fable 2 alone would give it to them but we also got too human and nina giaden II and we have the DLC coming in november for GTA IV and fallout 3 with exclusive DLC for the 360. So while you PS3 only guys and gals out there are playing little big planet for 15 mins until you get bored of doing the same thing over and over for no reason what so ever 360 owners will be enjoying games real games with missions and story and when november rolls around everyone will be happy because both systems get great games but once again resistance will lose to Gears just like they did 2 years ago. And for those fanboys that say PS3 games are the best looking games please go play Gears of War part one the best looking console game ever and that came out two years ago explain that to me. Please do not reply if your a PS3 fanboy and have never played Gears of war because your reply will mean nothing.
Tales of Vesperia, Disgaea 3, Infinite Undiscovery... where am I going to find the time to play and complete these games!
Wow, you Wii gamers are getting Y's Books 1&2??? That game's legendary! I remember being so dejected when it came out for Turbografx CD (I had a Genny :-() BTW, do you guys think Infinite Undiscovery is going be great, or merely good? I have a bunch of games ready to be traded-in, and that might be a game worthy of a purchase.
I want to get Tales of Vesperia and Infinite Undiscovery. I won't get them right away since I'm already playing three long games(Blue Dragon, Dragon Quest 8, and Persona 3 Fes). Plus I dont like paying $60 for a game since I paid less than $60 total for all three of those games.
"the 360 has Fable 2, Gears of War 2, and perhaps best of all and most importantly, Fallout 3" Fallout 3 is scheduled to be released on PC, 360, and PS3. http://www.gamespot.com/search.html?tag=search%3Bbutton&qs=fallout+3
Yes! Castle Crashers is finally being released! Oh and way to force your opinion on everyone else DA SHREDDER. "and many many more" sounds conspicuously like "uhhh there's a few more but that doesn't help my case any". I'm not here to flame the PS3, I also own a PS3 and a 360 (and a Wii for that matter), but it's nearly impossible to ignore the fact that I've used my PS3 more for backwards compatibility than for actual PS3 games. There's really only one PS3 game I play (MGS4 obviously) and a few downloadable titles, while I own a large number of games for my 360. Not even bothering with the fact that I always buy Multi-platform games on the 360 (because I prefer the controller and because the online is better IMO), I still play 360 games more, and then there's always the much larger catalog of Arcade games like Braid and Geometry Wars 2. While the PS3 has its fair share of exclusives, (pretty much limited to the games you pointed out, plus Resistance 2), the 360 has Fable 2, Gears of War 2, and perhaps best of all and most importantly, Fallout 3, and that's only the future releases. Maybe you should think before you complain about the smell of flamebait. I'm not saying the PS3 is a bad system. I think any hardcore gamer who can afford it should own both a 360 and a PS3, but given a choice, I'd always recommend the 360. I can see where some other people would feel otherwise but that really depends on what kind of game's you're into, and to speak of everything in such absolute terms is incredibly closed-minded. Next time, just think before you present your personal opinion as fact, you'll be a better writer for it.
IGN's tales review was pretty good I found, so it makes me wonder what GS will come up with. Sometimes they vary a bit, but not overly. I'll hold off on everything this week because of Mercenaries 2 next week, but I'll definitely end up picking up Castle Crashers I think. Definitely mad about the 1200pt price tag.
I could see why an xbox 360 only onwner wouldn't buy a ps3 just to get a game that is multiplat. But mathew, I would have to argue with your reasons on not getting a ps3. If you are a hardcore gamer, then you would know that ps3 exclusives are the most beautiful and fun games to play, period. God of War 3, Killzone 2, LBP, and many many more games I could list should be your reasons on getting one. Also, Mathew, I think that your just flaming in this forum. I mean cmon,, you have a gears of war avatar. Is it me, or do I smell flamebait in the air? Also, I have a ps360 myself. As an owner of both, Im having trouble finding out why I should keep my 360 because of the lack of true next gen games. I must admit that Fable 2 is one of my most anticipated games this year, but other then that, the 360 is the most overated piece of hardware I have ever seen. Its not a bad machine, but to deny the fact the ps3 is better and has the best exclusives just means you people are in denial. But hey, its not my loss that you dont think the ps3 is worth it. Your the one that is gonna be losing out on all the fun. I actually pity you 360 fanboys.
i think infinite undiscovery would look and be ten times better on the ps3... i think 360, is not worth the time really... but that's just me..
Seems like the PS3 exclusives aren't good enough for me to buy a PS3. If a good game is coming out on the PS3, I can most likely get it on the xbox360. Far Cry 2, Fallout 3, and Resident evil 5, just to name a few.
I'm really excited about Ys Book I & II. I really didn't want to pay $100 + dollars to play it, and now that it's available for download, I don't have to!
afilgueirasjr so far the 360 exclusives (spectral force, too human)have been mediocre the only rpgs you got too look forward to will be square enix games which will be AA games at best except ff 13 having a few lame exclusives doesnt make 360 better ps3 has way more exclusives
I could care less about RPG's !!! Just waiting for Gran Turismo which is a PS3 exclusive. Waiting for Little Big Planet....PS3 exclusive. And while waiting im playing Metal Gear Solid....PS3 exclusive. I guess im playing Madden too :)
Tales of Vesperia and Infinite Undiscovery are potential purchases for me. Hopefully GS will have the reviews this week. IGN's ToV review was mostly positive, so it's off to a good start.
You PS3 fanboys really need to wake up and get out of your denial state of mind. The PS2 fought for the JRPGS the PS3 Hasn't dont that in the Americas and Europe but if you go to Japan they have a ton of Jrpgs so Microsoft is fighting to bring all those games over to the US and europe and please don't sit there and be ignorant and say that the 360 doesn't have RPGs when it is leading the way this generation and to say they are all childish is also very ignorant. Games like Tales of Vesperia which got good reviews is one in a long line of tales games and if it were on the PS3 you wouldn't be talking bad about it just face your video game company isn't fighting for you it's fighting for it's shareholders. I will end this with just some Jrpgs coming to and already on the 360 Final fantasy 13, The last Ramnant, Tales of Vesperia*, Infinite Undiscovery, Blue Dragon*, Blue Dragon 2*, Star Ocean: The Last Hope*, Eternal Sonata, Lost Odyssey*, Enchanted Arms. the ones with the * are exclusives to the 360 and others will be out on the 360 first then release on the PS3. So as a 360 owner i have a lot to look forward too but as a PS3 owner I have hope but not much to look forward too.
Patience... RPG's will be coming... Well I'm not complaining... Since other PS3 exclusives are great... So there are plenty of titles that will keep me busy playing... Eventhough I don't have plenty of times playing games anymore...
