darksiders is the only game that seem some what interesting, but even this is a rent. bayonetrash is not even worth renting
Sega and THQ begin the year big with high-profile third-person actioners on the Xbox 360 and PS3.
The gaming industry typically hits a wall during the first part of any given new year, after having released games in excess during the holiday window. Not so in 2010, as publishers across the board pushed many of their big-name releases out of the holiday window and into the ostensibly more opportune early-2010 period. Though light on overall quantity, January sports a number of big-name releases, and the month will be led off by Sega's Bayonetta and THQ's Darksiders.
Released to solid sales in Japan last October, Bayonetta is the latest offspring of Sega's partnership with PlatinumGames, a studio that boasts the talent of Capcom's shuttered Clover Studio (Okami). Produced by Hideki Kamiya, who also spearheaded Viewtiful Joe and the original Devil May Cry, Bayonetta features stylized third-person action following the scantily clad titular witch with a proclivity toward foot-borne firearms.
THQ scores the second headline release for the week with its third-person actioner Darksiders. Available for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, the game drops players into the role of War, one of the Four Horseman of the Apocalypse of biblical fame. Astride his flaming steed Ruin, War triggers the end of days on Earth after falling victim to the foul machinations of a demon known as The Destroyer. He then sets out on a quest to vanquish The Destroyer's minions along with the archdemon itself.
For further details on the week's games, visit GameSpot's New Releases page. The full list of downloadable games on the PlayStation Store, Xbox Live Marketplace, and the Wii Shop Channel will be revealed later this week. Release dates are based on retailer listings and are subject to change.

both look awesome, i dont see why peale are getting offended by games i mean come on... its not like at one point they piss on the bible or something, the developers are being creative and daring
Bayonetta is excellent and will keep me giddy until Mass Effect 2 pushes everything off the table and locks the doors. I just hope Bayonetta's sales match its quality; Sega needs a hit in a bad, bad way.
After watching 1UP's game night featuring this game I'm definitely interested in it. I was on the fence before but watching them play this game tonight really changed my mind. I just hope they patch the PS3 version 'cause I'm not going to get it until there's a patch out for that version seeing as how PS3 is the main console of choice for me.
@HappyBB It's a pity you feel that way about Bayonetta. I'm a believer in Christ, and I'm also a rather creative sort who likes to draw and write. As such, I think that Bayonetta looks quite interesting. It depicts angels and demons not as good and evil respectively, but as two sides of a balance, and your character just happens to be on the dark side of that balance. Dark =/= evil, at least not in the game. And it is just a game. I'm looking forward to playing it.
@ deesnutts25 Fanboy......really? Still in 2010, sad........If you don't play Mass Effect 2 you will be missing out plain and simple. If you don't play MAG, well I am sure that you will not be missing out on much. Another shooter, but with 256 players....big wup.........I am sure that I will still get it though.......AS I AM NOT A FANBOY BUT A GAMER. \ \ If you miss God of War 3 than you will be missing out (as a PS3 example). FF13 will be great but most people don't even have HD TV's so 1080p compared to 720p is nothing special. \ \ Go wash your face and play some games, as with how you are talking you have clearly missed some amazing ones.
@bobnice Hmm i dunno lets look at the games you picked here and what game you put down shall we? All 360 titles... Also notice the person you mentioned was asking for info primarily for PS3 games, not 360. As far as claiming Mass effect is great, hmmm if I wanted a clone of kotor I'd just get kotor and save the trouble. As far as bayonetta goes, I think DMC4 with a female. Also note, every port from 360 to PS3 is crap (with the exception of dragon age). Wait till March to see what a PS3 to 360 port looks like. I've already read that 360 will probably support 720p while PS3 will support full 1080p. Compressed audio and video on 360, uncompressed on PS3.
I played the Bayonetta demo, and I thought it was a lot of fun. but I decided to buy Darksiders instead.Bayonetta is awesome, but Darksiders is going to surprise a lot of people.
I have played Bayonetta and made an effort to understand the story settings. The game, in my opinion, is depicting God and angels as the enemies, the bad guys. While it's the developers' freedom of expression to make such game and gamers' freedom of enjoyment to play it, I find the game quite offensive.
The demo for Bayonetta turned me off on the game. Super sparkly visuals and annoying as all hell j-pop music aren't my thing. Darksiders is definately more my cup of tea so I might pick it up this week. Matt Hazard could find his way onto my HDD if he came for $10. $15 is pushin it.
Not that I was looking forward to it or anything, but I downloaded the demo for Bayonetta and guess what? It sucks. It looked weak in the graphics department and it played weak just like every other Sega game. Terrible crappy old arcade like graphics. I won't be buying this turd of a game. $50 or $60 bucks for this game is way to much. Save your money. The Dantes Inferno demo was also disappointing. Picture God of War without the fun.
I didnt love the bayonetta demo.. I like my games to look pretty and all but this game has so much stuff going on even with simple combos that it feels kinda off to me.. thats not to say I wont like the game, but the demo just felt off to me. I just bought the god of war collection.. we have bayonetta, Dantes Inferno and then God of War 3 all within a few months.. I love these types of games I just wish they were a little more spread out.
Bayonetta looks to be cool, liked the demo and it's getting pretty good reviews so I'm sure I'll pick it up. I wasn't really looking forward to Darksiders, but it's getting some pretty good reviews as well, I might just have to try it if I keep hearing good things about it. Anyhow, there's going to be a slew of hot releases from now until at least March, and this is just the beginning; YAY!!
Why on this green earth would i Lie about being in the MAG beta? what would that gain someone? I've been in the MAG Beta since semptember. You my friend are the fool here. Mass Effect 2 will be the better of the two, and that is what ascalon94 was asking for. Why would you steer the man into spending $60 and buying the lesser of the two?
@bobnice If your refering to when the servers were down on mag, then you are a fool for saying you have played it. Saying a game is bad because 13,000 people try to access it at the same time is dumb. MAG is fun and it will only get better as they release more for the beta. Right now it is only one game type and a few maps, so don't judge it for whats there, its not the complete game.
@ SalarianChemist I believe Divinity 2 is released another week in January. That should be a good one too.
The Xbox 360 version of Bayonetta is already a candidate for the award for Game of the Year. And I agree that Mass Effect 2 is also a game being released in January that is going to be a candidate for Game of the Year. January is truly an amazing month, because there is also a game known as Divinity 2 that I believe is scheduled for release. I am not sure why Divinity 2 does not appear on GameSpot's list here, but I had previously been told that Divinity 2 was going to be released in January. This is important because Divinity 2 is receiving a lot of hype.
been watching bayonetta for a long time! normally i don't purchase games the day of but this is an exception hands down! Bayonetta ftw!
Well Darksiders is going to be amazing..........THQ is about to step it up in a big way.......this year will be very good for them.....but 2011 will be their best yet. \ \ Bayonetta is pretty good...the demo was crazy..... \ \ I will be picking up Darksiders tomorrow and Bayonetta soon after. \ \ Oh 2010, how you are the best year in gaming ever.....I can hardly wait.
It maybe a bit biased, but I tend to lean more toward quality. We all know it here...Mass Effect 2 will be a candidate for 2010 Game of the Year. I've played the Mag Beta and it aint that great. Save up for the new Splinter Cell Conviction and Battlefield Bad Company 2 if your money is tight.
@ ascalon94 ehh, depends on what system you play more 360 or PS3, same with genre first person shooter or third person rpg shooter. as for bobnice's answer I think it's a bit baised.
@ ascalon94 "should i get MAG or Mass Effect 2?" Are you Serious??? That is a no-brainer question. Mass Effect 2 wipes its a** with MAG after taking a s**t.
should i get MAG or Mass Effect 2? I can't decide and I want to save money for other releases later in the year (GoW3,Splinter Cell, Heavy Rain) etc
Will be buying Darksiders and Bayonetta probably on Black Friday of 2010. I have gamers guilt in the many many games on my shelf that still haven't been played or finished. I think I will save a lot of scratch implementing this plan although I will miss out on the eary playing everyone else will enjoy. Here is hoping that the economy picks up in 2010 and I can get a job as I am filing for unemployement for the very first time today. Thanks Obama! (who then points the finger to Bush *lame*).
@CoolKidX It appears to be true. I'd definitely go for the XBOX 360 version. Textures look better (as they normally do on 360 versions), colors are brighter, less slowdown, quicker load times apparently. Looks like Darksiders runs about equally on both.
I heard Bayonetta is abad port form 360 to ps3, longer loading times and the textures are uglier, this true?
