The long-anticipated ghoul-catching adventure joins a full-band rhythm game remix comp and a box-peripheral-based Wii party game; America's Army 3 also reports for duty.
Now that the dust has settled after the flurry of the Electronic Entertainment Expo, there is a relative calm in the game industry. But there's something strange in the neighborhood, and gamers can expect to call up the long-awaited Ghostbusters game coming out on Tuesday. Dropped by Activision, the game was resuscitated by Atari and will be available for the PC, PlayStation 2, PlayStation 3, PSP, Nintendo DS, and Nintendo Wii. Players will run through the ghost-infested streets of Manhattan to recruit the original cast of the famous Ghostbusters team. With an array of whimsical electro-gadgets that would make Nikola Tesla's head spin, players will attempt to retake Manhattan from the grips of its spectral foes. Stay tuned to Gamespot for an upcoming review of the game.
This latest addition to the $2 billion-plus rhythm franchise will feature songs from pre-World Tour Guitar Hero games rearranged for use with a full band, including vocals and drums. The game will also include the Music Studio song creator, online play, and eight new venues, including the Grand Canyon, the Amazon, and the polar ice caps.
Tuesday will see the arrival of one of the more offbeat Wii titles, Sega's Let's Tap. Developed by Sonic the Hedgehog cocreator Yuji Naka's Prope studio, the game uses the Wii Remote in a novel way. Players set it on a flat surface--like the box it comes with--and then tap their fingers on that surface, using the vibrations to control onscreen actions. As outlined in GameSpot's hands-on preview, Let's Tap features obstacle-course races (Tap Runner), a DDR-inspired dance-off (Rhythm Tap), a Jenga-like game (Silent Blocks), and a jetpack game (Bubble Voyager).
For those seeking a game free of charge, the U.S. Army is deploying the third installment of America's Army, which the armed forces use as a recruiting tool. Coming out on Wednesday, the game has many improvements over its predecessor. As explained in GameSpot's hands-on preview, the upcoming game is easier to download and install, and the interface has more options. Players can now have multiple soldiers per account, meaning that a player can be both a medic and a sniper, for example. After completing various training exercises, players will become certified to use special weapons and equipment that can be used against online foes. Online matches can hold as many as 26 players.
For further details on the week's games, visit GameSpot's New Releases page. The full list of downloadable games on the PlayStation Store, Xbox Live Marketplace, and the Wii Shop Channel will be revealed later this week. Release dates are based on retailer listings and are subject to change.

1404 / Dawn of Discovery -- FYI, all PC versions of this game (hard copy, Steam download, D2D download, etc) will come saddled with invasive DRM. TAGES, required online activation, plus a limit of 3 activations (and according to what I read, currently no way to unauthorize an activation).
There's something strange... in my ps3... Who am I gonna call? Maybe you guys can help me out here..
i m a ghosbuster fan i love the movie and i also love the game gonna get this one on the psp who you gonna call :)
I checked the GameRanking reviews, it's at about 80%, I'm totally picking this one up, I loved the movies and even the Saturday morning cartoons too
this game took 8 on ign before it was released by 5 or 4 days maybe it's gonna be good though i don't agree with most ign reviews
I recently bought a Ghostbusters t-shirt at Target just to wear while I play the game. Who you gonna call?!?!
I'm all excited about ghostbusters, got my call from "Ray Stanz" and i'll be waiting at 10 for it a gamestop... Best thing is i'm waiting for it nyc.. been to a few places that are scenes for the movie hehehehe.
so what if sony paid for the the other versions to come out later, microsoft done it with other games aswell
Ghostbusters looks interesting. I'm not sure about Let's Tap though. It seems like one title that should have stayed in Japan.
and on IGN I found something more like what I read a while back : " Sony Europe has given Atari a chunk of change in exchange for delaying the PC, Xbox 360, Nintendo DS and Nintendo Wii versions of Ghostbusters: The Game. The Playstation 3 edition will arrive June 19th, and be followed by a Playstation Portable release in the Autumn. The delayed versions will arrive "later in the year," though at this time it is believed that Atari U.S. will simultaneously release all six SKUs in June, as originally planned, making import purchases a possibility. "
@residude : thats wierd, when I read the news they actually posted to a Sony webpage as a source and the site confirmed the fact. Well, seems like they got to their senses after all :D I just did a google on "ghostburser europe" and found the following on wired : http://www.wired.com/gamelife/2009/05/sony-will-publish-ghostbusters-game-in-europe/ Its not the same news i read, but here they just state that other versions would be delayed, but I cant seem to confirm this when I look at different shops on the net. Seems like all the platforms are getting the same release date here in Norway, 24th of June. Thank god because im getting this for the PC, I dont want to pay premium to get it for the PS3 and the 360 =P
I am so, so hoping that this Ghostbusters game is good.Having all of the orignal actors for the voices is such a good start, and the commercial?Mind blowing.
Magic: The Gathering - Duels of the Planeswalkers HJold on -- Planewalkers are from PlaneScape! (look it up) Well, WotC own the liscense I guess...
Make sure you pick up Ghostbusters. And make sure you DON'T pick up anything from Activision: ie: Guitar Hero.
@uberjannie, thats wrong, im from the UK was in Game today, and they had boxes up for 360 and PS3. Dunno where you heard that but it was wrong :) Can't wait for Ghostbusters :D
I read somewhere that Sony had bought rights to this game in europe so that Ghostbusters is only coming to playstation :S I do have a playstation but im not going to buy it if they buy exclusivitiy.
Did anyone else who pre-ordered Ghostbusters get that awesome recorded voice message from Dan Akroyd? That was such a cool surprise. I'm gonna be there at 10 tonight, just like he told me, :-)
Is that right? Ghostbusters on XBox 360???? Released on the 16th???? I thought it was a PS3 exclusive until later in the year?
No Fat Princess? I thought it was coming out on the 18th... :( Oh well, my wallet can sleep soundly until then.
Got my copy of GB last week for the PS3 and i gotta say It was well made! The game play is fun and the script is funny and all the dialog is hilarious! If you are a Ghostbusters fan it's a must have!
Ghostbusters: The Video Game Launch Day - Disaster of biblical proportions, Old Testament, real wrath of God type stuff. Fire and brimstone coming down from the skies! Rivers and seas boiling! Forty years of darkness! Earthquakes, volcanoes... The dead rising from the grave! Human sacrifice, dogs and cats living together... mass hysteria! Yep that pretty much sums it up.
Recommended System Requirements: * Windows XP SP2, Windows Vista * Intel Core 2 Duo E8400 or equivalent * 4GB RAM * ATI Radeon HD 4800 series, NVIDIA GTX 260 series or higher video card - No mulitplayer - Internet activation required for unnamed DRM And when they lose sales it's because of pirates right?
Looking at the list, Ghostbusters is the only thing IMHO that is worth noting. At least Street Fighter 4 for the PC is next month. PC gamer here by the way.
How could a game with a name like Eduardo the Samurai Toaster not be mentioned? I mean, I'd play the thing for the title alone.
This coming week is a little lacking to be honest. But man...July and pretty much every month here after make up for it huh?.
