SimCity, Spore studio announcement set for GDC
Electronic Arts teases reveal from California-based company at next month's Game Developers Conference in San Francisco; event to be streamed live.
The Electronic Arts-owned Maxis game studio has been in the dark since it shipped last year's Darkspore, but it appears the shop has a new project cooking, which could be unveiled next month.
Electronic Arts senior public relations director Erik Reynolds recently tweeted a message teasing that an announcement from Maxis will be made at next month's Game Developers Conference.
"EA Maxis GDC announcement, huge event w/ special guests," he wrote.
Reynolds also provided a link to an EA page titled "EA Game Changers," where the announcement will presumably be made. According to the page, the event will be streamed live at the site on March 6 at 3 p.m. EDT.
Maxis put itself on the map with its 1990 city-building hit SimCity, which would spawn numerous offshoots including the popular Sims life-simulation franchise. Most recently, the studio put out Spore (2008) and its follow-up, Darkspore (2011).
I miss Sim City as well as a lot of business strategy games that were put on the side for the past few years...
SimCity 5 please... and please don't dumb it down for casuals. Lets the series hold true to what made it great.
@SirNormanislost There is a mod for SC4 called Network Addon Mod (or NAM for short) that fixes a lot of the issues with traffic so you can actually build up a large city. I don't know if it does anything for the driving, I never did any of the driving missions. I highly recommend it.
Sim City put computer games on the map! :) Let's grow again!
SimCity 5!!! I first bought Simcity 4 when I was in early high school. Now I am in the US Army and there is no Simcity 5 yet?! Very Long Overdue
Oooh knowing Maxis it will be something really cool and fresh!
PC games market is declining year by year........ Sad part is PC beats the crap out of every console in the market (if given cahnce that is)
I really really wish for a SimCity 5....and i really really fear a SimCity 5 with a heavy EA influence.....
Sim city 5 would be cool! maybe they're going to admit Spore actually sucked ! LOL
SimCity 5!!!! Or as somebody already mentioned, a new SimTower would be awesome!(Although not probable...) I was quite disappointed that Yoot's Tower didn't reach out globally, or at least not here in Northern Europe. :(
Any guidance to me about 3 p.m. EDT. ... where actually is EDT?
Please, God, let it be SimCity 5!
Come on sim city5!!!! It's been far to long hopefully they ditch the drive your vehicle missions or optimise the game so when you build a huge city it runs smoother and the driving is actually possible my last 2 PCs really didn't like it infact tonight I'm installing it on my new PC if it can run BF3 on ultra it must be able to handle my old sim city4 saves lol
About time we had a new SimCity, doubt it will be though.
+1 for SimCity 5. I think its time to re-create the legend.
I've always secretly hoped that a new Simtower game would be released, but I doubt that will ever happen.
Would love a new Sim City, or a better Spore. maybe instead of making the universe so huge, they focus on the evolution of your species and all the species on your planet. It was kind of weird that none of the other species could evolve.
As a lot of other people have said 'Spore:The Non-Crappy Version' would be good. But knowing EA it's probably something really "safe" and not revolutionary, something easy to make money.
Will they ever make a new sim city? So unfair to let us waiting...
Wow, I'm not the only one hoping for a Sim City 5. Personally - and I'm probably in the minority here - I'd love to see a lot of green technology and city improvements: green roofs, biking lanes, wind/solar power, street cars, etc. I'll admit it's unlikely, but I think it'd be make for some great additions that would make gameplay very different from previous Sim City games.
SimCity 4 is from 2003! 9 years of crap (Societies, Spore), now bring out Sim City5 and don't screw it all
Better be SimCity 5. And it better not be anything like Societies.
A new SimCity that is more like SimCity 2000 would be great. Hopefully the guest is Will Wright. Hes my dev hero.
A new SimCity would be awesome! Something streamlined and gorgeous to behold!
Remake Spore but actually good. No cutesy crap. Make it like the Beta Demo
more SimCity...and hopefully nothing like that piece of crap that was simcrapcity 4 rush!hour or the gwad awful Societies. and spore was garbage too
Ok, I'll be the one to say it.Its another Sims 3 expansion. Or "Spore 2: The Second Attempt".
go go go SimCity5!
@ronnet Apparently so, I remember reading an article on IGN where he talked about starting another simulation game - I can't really remember what it was about though. I don't know whether Maxis are doing it either.
Please create a game that was what Spore was suppose to be. Not some dumbed down, casual, cute garbage. Spore was suppose to take the more mature (blood, real survival), scientific route.
Too bad they just didnt make Cities XL more fun to play because it looks 1000 times better then any of the Sim City games. Hopefully if they do another SC game it'll have XL type graphics with their more much more entertaining city building game style.
@ronnet You can't keep a good game designer down for long, whatever excursion he was on probably won't hold his interest like coding and designing a game...
A Spore sequel would be cool, just as long as Maxis learns from their mistakes from the first one.
I just want a sim city 5. I would be very happy if that came true.
mr wright ...... just develop the GODDAMN SIMS GAME !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
@huevosbenedicto, is he back? Last I heared he left the videogame industry after finishing Spore. He joined some sort of millionair super-adventure club. Some place EA puts away the talent after they've bought their studio and IPs.
Will Wright's new game?
