Simpsons Arcade Game hits XBL Friday
Konami's HD update of arcade beat-'em-up includes four-player co-op, unlockable Japanese version, and three modes.
Yesterday, Sony revealed that The Simpsons Arcade Game would arrive on the PlayStation Network next week for PlayStation Plus subscribers, but Xbox 360 gamers will get it first.
Konami today announced that The Simpsons Arcade Game will arrive on Xbox Live on February 3. A price for the game was not provided, and as of press time, Konami had not responded to GameSpot's request for comment.
An HD overhaul of the 1991 original beat-'em-up title, the game lets players control Homer, Marge, Lisa, and Bart and pummel foes through a series of side-scrolling levels. The game spans eight levels and sports four-player online co-op.
Additionally, The Simpsons Arcade Game includes three game modes: Quarters, Survival, and Free Play. Finally, the game includes bonus content like the Japanese version of the game (which must be unlocked) and in-game flyers and posters, as well as a Simpsons character guide.
@SolidTy you misunderstood me... i meant it sucked that only PS+ users get it on ps3....if it came out on psn for everybody i wouldnt have a problem... 360 gets my money because they offer it to everyone and first..
I have my arcade sticks read, but I need to add some funds to my account lol. I don't even want to know how much money I blew on this game when I was a kid. I beat it on two separate occasions on family vacations to Vegas haha.
I used to love this game back in early 90s however its 2012 and these old classics are best left to memory then ruined when played only to give a new nasty memory of DAMN THAT SUCKED
I'm going to get you this time Mr. Burns after so many years
anyone know what the new game modes are like? and whats difference between jap version?
Very nice!
So many quarters spent playing this game as a kid. I can't wait to download it tomorrow and play online.

I'm glad to see this game officially coming to home consoles... After more than 20 years! What the **** took so long?
Delightful news.
Microsoft just gave me some free points for being a Live member, I think I know where my points are going!
Sweet. I loved this game in the arcade. Still have fond memories of sinking £5 (which was quite a bit back then) on this with my cousin and completing it down Weston Super Mud when I was about 10 :D
Sweet!
A pity is just for XBL...
Im so stoked!!! Im gonna download it right away
i am so there dude. konami old school 4 player (sometimes 6, x-men) co-op arcade games were the cream of the crop back when i was in high school. ive already got the original turtles, turtles in time, and x-men. now i wish theyd bring bucky o hare, metamorphic force, sunsetriders, crime fighters, and vendetta (aka crime fighters 2) and id be set. :D
@ Vodoo Bart vs The World?
and yes, my arcade did have the simpsons game....the one game that i waited over 20 years now to play in my home! guess...online coop is the closest well get to the good old days again...
@ CarlosRodela Dude i went through the exact same thing when my local arcade closed down.it was a sad, sad day. that was about 13 -14 years ago. man, some of my fav games, standing dark and motionless.....quiet, a huge contrast to the way things were just a few months earlier. man, it was a sad sad time...the closing of the local arcade. tokens and tokens poured into cabinets of games. countless hours, days...spent in my wonderland of euphoria. that same place now has boards over the place where the arcade was (inside the mall) and is still unused today....although if anyone attempted to rennovate the space, id probably rage and chain myself to the walls of the gate outside of the arcade! .... God i miss that place :(
thinking of this game reminds me of ..yeah bowling alleys and old school arcades. I still remember the day when the arcade in our town finally died. right before it was closed there was just arcade cabinets scattered everywhere, some plugged in, some not. it was ghetto and had lost all its magic. maybe ill relive some magic with the xbla version.
Glad its finally being released for this generation to experience. I recall dropping a lot of quarters into this one at the local bowling ally. :0
It seems like they just copied the same formula/gameplay as Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and X-Men arcade games. While those games were great in their time, this game just doesn't do it for me. I found it as a cheesey copy of better games using a brand name that would draw people in. I actually liked a different Simpsons game but don't remember where it's from, maybe NES. Had to take Bart through different areas doing pretty hard challenges.
YES the new content is definitely appreciated!
if its 10$ or less Im in :)
This one-upmanship in getting stuff earlier between Microsoft and Sony is so amusing. :P
I already beat it at the arcade some time ago (this took them forever.) Unless it is a complete overhaul, I am going to pass.
Sweet! One last game and my arcade collection is complete! Give me... WRESTLEFEST!!!! That's the only game left I want now! :D
normally unlock able japanese version mean harder difficulty and more levels as the japanese love brutally hard arcade games demon/dark souls is a great example of that. but it's intensely satisfying nonetheless.
I used to play this with my brother when I was younger, and have been hoping to see it on XBLA, or one of the other systems' equivolents, so I'm glad to hear this news. The main thing that can hurt this version (outside of poor emulation), is if they don't include an offline co-op mode so I can play with my brother. I don't see why they wouldn't include that feature, but then again, that seems to be a pattern in a lot of games this generation, and this article specifically mentions "online" co-op, without mentioning offline co-op. Hopefully they do the logical thing and include that feature, to make this one hell of a deal. I'll probably get it either way though. :P

I wish someone would make a Marble Madness sequel. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Marble_Madness I miss the old arcade days. Slapping a quarter up on the machine to await your turn. I use to live on the Star Wars arcade game.
@elbowsmash I think not
coop online only?
Do you know...How many quarters I've spent on this game. How many hours on the arcade to play with friends. And years waiting for this. I love you Konami
The only classic I want more than this is Sunset Riders. But I'll take what I can get and I am definitely getting this.
YEEEAAHHH!! Wait, no gameplay? oh man I hope they don't go ubisoft-makeover on us!
cool
Nice. I never beat the original. It wasn't the kind of game I could beat on $5 worth of quarters.
Why can't PC users ever get any of these golden arcade titles from the past?
I'm buying this! It better only be 800 MSP...
Awesome! I expect it it be 800 points even though technically it SHOULD be 400 by former XBLA standards (TMNT arcade)....either way I'm thrilled it's coming to Live because I'd rather buy arcade games on live than on PSN....
Need to buy some points!
HOPEFULLY they meant it will include HD filters for the original 2D sprites. Filters such as soft, original, smooth, or whatever. I swear they better not change the graphics man, it would be disheartening.
This is the only time Ive actually been happy about having PS Plus, Id of bought this but now i dont have too. All the great arcade games I loved have now found there way onto the consoles.
This is seriously great news! I'm going to break out my Hori Arcade Stick and play through X-Men AND Simpsons all in one sitting!
this game rocked
I remember that game. It's so awesome.
the best Arcade Game of all time so i am excited but i am worried about the HD overhaul we already say konami ruin teenage mutant ninja turtles: turtles in time with a HD overhaul
HD overhaul? uh oh... now im sad.
now they need a remake of hit and run!!!!!!!!!
