Looks a lot more exciting than the first expansion. World adventures just seemed like it was a little detached from the gameplay of the original, while this one seems to build on it.
Second full expansion to EA's PC best seller adds career paths--both benevolent and ruthless--for players' sims to follow; iPod spin-off coming in late 2010; first trailer inside.
As has been the case with every PC Sims game, The Sims 3 was a big hit. How big? In January, Electronic Arts claims its latest life-sim was the best-selling PC game of 2009, having sold 4.5 million units in the six months after its June 2, 2009 launch.
Though large, the Sims 3's haul was just a small chunk of the 125 million units that the Sims series has sold over its 10-year lifespan. The vast majority of those units have been expansions and add-on packs to previous Sims titles, which EA usually releases every few months. Today, the company announced the latest in its long line of Sims expansions, The Sims 3 Ambitions--developed by the internal Sims Studio.
As the name implies, the Sims 3 Ambitions will let players give their virtual selves either a lofty or a low goal in their non-lives. Examples provided by EA were a stylist who can either exquisitely coif or hideously crop a neighbor's hair, a doctor who can heal the sick or use them for horrible experiments, a tattoo artist who can beautify or desecrate a customer's body, and a firefighter who can save a burning home or chop the interior into kindling.
Being good or evil will provoke a reaction in the Sims community, according to Sims Studio manager Scott Evans. "Players actions at work now directly affect their lives, community, and neighbors and become an extremely important part of how the game is played," he explained.
The second full expansion for The Sims 3 will ship this June, seven months after the first, World Adventures, hit the market. The iPhone spin-off of Ambitions will arrive later in the year.
Excellent! The Sims 3 is so much more than Sims 1 was and far superior to Sims 2 without the dreaded loading screens. If you people paid any attention, the Sims team is working on Sims 3 to make it different than Sims 1 or 2, and seeing Pets was an ep in both of those worlds, Seasons an ep in 2, with the way Simmers yell about rehashing old Sims stuff. I'm sure if the community had embraced the rehashed Sims 1 eps in Sims 2, we wouldn't be screaming we wanted these eps again rehashed for Sims 3 - but they were not embraced, so I can see EA not wanting to go with the same-o thing yet again. I'd say keep an open mind and let us be surprised with whatever direction the game goes in. This coming ep mentions earthquakes that firefighters will be engaged in, so my guess is eventually more weather type conditions will ensue as eps come out. I do know I really like these action oriented Sims compared with Sims 2. I could never go back since having so much fun with this game and it's open world. That said, it would be nice if EA added animals, not so much pets per sec, but maybe farm animals - horses in particular, and wild animals. Zoo keeper could be another career expansion as could be farming. I know I love WA, it's so much more than BV was in Sims 2. I just hope they don't forget to do some of the Creature Sims though, as I totally loved my vampires, elves, and witches. Would welcome the Summerdreams to Sims 3 for sure.
I'm not a massive sims goer anymore. I loved the whole sims 1 pets, superstar and makin magic feeling, but much of that content has been disregarded. All of this fluff-expansion pack nonsense currently being developed doesn't quite cut it for me. The sims 3 is in dire need for more originality, and the devs know it!
Surprised to see so many people obsessed with a Pets expansion. Open for Business and Seasons are far more important expansions and brings a whole lot to the game. I vote Open for Business and Seasons - NOW! :D
Sounds like an good EP! I love that they added a Ghostbusters career to this EP! But I REALLY want Pets and Seasons! The best, in my eyes! Makin' Magic would be cool too!! @hamjam01, They already annouced that colsole versions will come soon! I wish they could add some more wild-life to the game too! Animals, like deer and bears etc, and difference creations for different regions! Would be so much fun! :D
@Skargamer Not at all, Makin' Magic was my favorite expansion too. I wish they would make a Sims 3 equivalent...
This EP sounds weird...where's my Nightlife, Open for Business, or Superstar EP!? The community lots still suck in Sims 3 :-(
can they make a makin magic expansion like they did with the first game? i know its stupid but it was kinda fun right? (i have a feeling im gonna get a lotta hands down... :| )
I want to play The Sims 3, but the way that EA treats the marketing of this franchise has really turned me off. So I guess I'll wait 3 years for the release The Sims 4 so I can buy one of those sweet "Deluxe" packages with the game and 3 expansions that they've done in the past. At least it's not another "here's some objects that don't actually enhance the gameplay" rip-off 'expansion' pack.
Its good because now sims are more unique but i will go crazy with joy when, or if, they announce a pets expansion!
savestheday614 i also guessed that they wouldve added all the previous exp into 3! it didnt even cross my mind they wouldnt do that! i thought they were acually pretty good to their community till then
I disagree BloodMist. Milking is this gens magic word, and it seems that any franchise that sees a lot of releases is considered getting "milked." In my opinion, milking something is the act of over-producing too many games in a franchise without any real variation or production value for the sheer purpose of getting numbers, said product's profits shrink and it is slowed down or discontinued all together. I don't think Sims is milked. Seems the opposite really, most Sims games usually offer something new and exciting to the Sims world, making the games fun to play and actually WORTH buying. Just my 84 cents though.
Wish EA would be EA with this game... (put it on the system to) they could sell double maby triple that amount lol i guess i want Ea be there true self so i can play it because my pc is junk
Sounds interesting. At least we finally get a somewhat original idea for an expansion. Need more info than what's up there but, might be something to look forward too.
So, when do we get a new University or Pets expansion? The former was, hands down, the best from Sims 2.
Hope its better than world adventure was very disappointed in it..Ambitions sounds ok..Hopefully they will add more key elements to making sims 3 more fun..Sorry if any of you like world adventure, it was the first expansion bye ea for the series i did not like...
I agree. The only thing I want is the Pets expansion again and University. IMO Sims 3 should have just included all the expansions from the second one built in. It's stupid that the next full game ships with less options than the game before it with all expansions. Then again this is how Maxis makes money.
This game keeps evolving :) Its a good thing as far as the game goes, not so much for the wallet -.- @hamjam01 : Its not an easy game to port -.-
