meh...NPC's are still robotic and unfeeling. I had one quest where i was in a shop after just completing a quest for him and his assistant kept repeating "you have to leave" over and over again, like a dozen times while i was talking to the shop keeper for a hopeful reward. (apparently it was after hours.)
Gamer-centric tracking service examines user data, doles out "most played" genre awards to The Elder Scrolls V, Modern Warfare 3, Batman: Arkham City, and more.
It's common for this time of year to see media outlets and companies doling out game awards to honor quality, but Raptr is instead toasting quantity. The gamer-centric social service today announced its Raptr Awards for the most played games of 2011, giving top honors to Bethesda Softworks' open-world role-playing game The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim.
By tracking the play time data of its registered Xbox 360 and PC users, Raptr devised a formula to determine the "most played" game based on total hours played in the first month after release, average session length in the first month, and average play time per person in the first week. PlayStation 3 and Wii games were not included "due to data capturing restrictions," according to Raptr.
Going by Raptr's formula, The Elder Scrolls V narrowly beat out Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 as the most played game of the year. Modern Warfare 3 actually bested Skyrim by about 9 percent in total first-month playtime, but the Bethesda RPG made up ground in average play time per person (around 23 hours, compared to just over 20 hours) and average session length. In the first month, Skyrim players averaged almost three hours per session, more than any title Raptr has previously tracked. Modern Warfare 3's average first-month session was just over two hours, about on par with other games like Batman: Arkham City, Gears of War 3, and Battlefield 3.
Raptr also doled out nods to the most played games in a variety of categories (winners listed below) and to the massively multiplayer online game that saw the biggest boost in the wake of a subscription-based to free-to-play transition. That nod went to DC Universe Online, which saw a 2,500 percent jump in average play time per day among its user base. Champions Online saw the next biggest play time jump after going free-to-play (500 percent), followed by A.P.B. (450 percent).

Skyrim Rocks, it was to be expected to rank this high. Finally a (new)game worth playing and replaying..
Zelda fans are insane fanboys, some of the worst I have ever seen but I agree you can't get worse then Call of Duty fans.
@moviequest14 Seriously, I agree. I have only ever seen you posting about how 'awesome' Zelda is and how great Nintendo are. There not even in this article! If your going to say Zelda, a 16 game fanbase, has more fans than Skyrim, one game, then your logic is poor at best. Average out the amount of people who ahve gone off Zelda, matured to other games, and the dilution of this over 16 games and 25 years, the Zelda fanbase would be minimal compared the large amount of people enjoying Skyrim in the few months since its release. The immaturity of EA staff is not worth mentioning. The idea is that they have listened to the consumer of video games, and know that CoD needs to be taken down a peg, and that Activison needs to realise that it is not the be all and end all of video games. The reason that the CoD campaign is short, or why any FPS campaign is relatively short, is that the focus is making the multiplayer the best they possibly can. It is unrealistic to compare any RPG storylength to that of an FPS or action game. Seriously, just once consider the utter crap you come out with before you type.
@Phatjam : I continually support my statement about EA with Battlefield, you see more press articles about EA bashing CoD than supporting your own game.I also still stick with my statement that CoD is pretty immature/not true gaming. The fact you pay $60 for a 3 hour (or less) campaign is pretty abysmal..so what you are paying for isn't really a full game but multiplayer that isn't even full multiplayer but a basic multiplayer with loads of dlc maps put on.If you do think that Skyrim has a bigger fanbase than you are in denial...do you think every zelda fan out there purchased Skyward Sword? Zelda has had 25 years and 16 games to build up fans. That doesn't mean Skyward Sword/Legend of Zelda as a whole is better than Elder Scrolls/Skyrim (both have positives and minuses,Zelda exceeds with a smoother,less-bug ridden game and experimentation with unique artstyles while Skyrim excels in a massive/detailed world and fantastic graphics for what it is aiming at).I think Skyrim is an excellent game and is on the same level of quality as Legend of Zelda, don't believe me if you want,I couldn't care less.
@moviequest14 Are you serious dude? When did I try and insult you first off. Second, how are you now admitting that everything I said about more immaturity is found in other games like Halo and CoD? And what are you talking about there are more Zelda fans than Skyrim? If that was the case Zelda should outsell Skyrim correct? But that isn't the case. How bias can you get here? Then you basicly crap all over CoD and its fans. Now I'm not a big fan of CoD single player because I do not like the storytelling methods. But to claim it is not a good game again shows your bias. How is CoD not a mature game? You have to be kidding here. Every time you post you simply show your bias toward Zelda and your disdain for every other game. You said that Skyrim has the most immature fanbase, but you admit that CoD/BF/Halo have the most immature fanbase in this last post. I'm done with you, you have no real points, you contradict yourself, you make excuses for your statements and you claim insults where their are none. Go play Zelda and be happy. Stop with this crazy line of thought of yours, and if you truely want to play the best RPG that has come out in years, go pick up Skyrim and join the rest of us in pure adventure and joy. Later buddy, I truly hope happier times come for you, stop letting immature posts get to you and really... try and apply your thoughts to yourself as you clearly are bias.
@Phatjam98 : If you are going to try to insult me be original with it,3rd exact same zelda insult in a row.I never said there weren't fanboys and idiots that play Zelda..there are plenty..in fact probably more than Skyrim..but there are more fans of Zelda so it pretty much evens out.Call of Duty? The topic here is immature fanboys of mature and GOOD games :P I honestly don't know of any time at all I have EVER seen Resident Evil fans bashing Dead Space and the only time I see halo fans bashing CoD it is whenever everyone (halo-fan or not) is.CoD and Battlefield are both examples of some of the most immature gaming out there...even ea spokespersons are immature (spending more time bashing CoD than advertising their own product).Of course you would expect their fans to be immature. It isn't quite as much that as it is the reverse, how few incredibly mature comments there were..if there are millions upon millions of skyrim fans and the immature ones are in the minority how come the comments were 75-85% in the majority in immaturity?
@huerito323 I agree with every single point you made about Oblivion, but I bought Skyrim and STILL enjoyed it. Give it a chance.
I just can't believe this game caps at lvl 50. I'm at lvl 38, but this game is so huge and my quest list is so long I feel like I have hardly done anything yet.
@moviequest14 LOL you kill me. You cant see past your petty complaints about those that crap on your precious Zelda. You really think that there aren't immature petty posters about how Halo is better than CoD? Or how Resident Evil is better than Dead Space? Pull your head out. You find that Skyrim has the most immature fanbase of all time because you read the posts about Skyrim or Zelda and you pick out those posters who you feel "Wronged" by. If you cared so deeply about the other games you mentioned you would see your argument is null. Portal would be one exception because it is a very special and specific game. It is a puzzle game and it really doesn't have a rival. Every genre of games has these types of comments and fans. Seriously get over yourself. Again, 100's or even 1000's of fans does not a majority make. Do yourself a favor, either stop posting or go into Halo or CoD or BF3 boards and tell me you don't see even more on those pages. The last few years the most immature comments have come between CoD and BF franchises. That is a fact. Those games attract the most immature audiunce to begin with as they are Online FPS. Seriously, get a grip. And when someone points out that you clearly are a Zelda fan because your avatar is Link, and your argument comes from a position that Zelda is a good game.... that is just deductive reasoning not judgement. Stop being so sensitive. Seriously.
So what they are really saying is the award is for the most time spent on a PC or 360 game. It is unfortunate that they were not able to get the PS3 or Wii data as this does not really show an accurate representation of what people have played in total.
@crazyintheface If you read the article carefully, you ll see how they arrived at the "most played" conclusion. Hint: 2nd paragraph
the frozen north shale rule, plus im in canada so i make a joke to myself that skyrim is my homeland of canada :) you know ice, rock, snow ;) last game was america :) imperials get it ;) anyone want to be friends ;)
@cstv just because you have encountered game breaking lag doesn't mean the game is broken either for everyone
@huerito323 they brought back a lot of stuff from morrow wind & oblivion only thing missing is flying, enchanting arrows, weapon repair and barter control. it has a lot more features than oblivion had and some new stuff
keep in mind that this doesn't include the PS3. This automatically ignores PS3 Dark Souls players, Uncharted 3, and a slew of other games.
3 hours per session :o Not possible! *looks at playtime... 71hrs in 30 days not counting reloads* ....oh...
Ive got well over 150 hours on Darks Souls, but am yet to grab Skyrim. Hopefully gunna platnium DS before I dedicate myself to Betheseda godliness
I think it's quite a misleading title to give a game, I assumed it meant 'most played' as in the majority of people were playing that game, but instead it's people that have the game are playing it alot. I feel this is quite irrelevant to how good a game is because the genre of games depend on how long you play it (providing it's good of course). Since Skyrim is an RPG people spend many hours on it, compared with say MW3 where you can play it 10 minutes a day. Take angry birds, that is one of the most recognised andriod game, but people don't spend as many hours on it compared with say an rpg on the andriod. Does this mean the rpg is better, no of course not.
@Phatjam98 : You have actually resorted to judging someone by their avatar? That is what you do when you have nothing else better to put into a conversation.I said supply 100+ comments,I never said there weren't any more.''Effect me in such a way''? It's not like I am staying up all night crying about it..I just think that it is such a shame that Skyrim does have that many immature fans. The Portal series has manages to sell over 7million copies but you don't see that much immaturity when portal is pitted up against another game. The halo series has sold over 40million copies world wide yet how many radical hardcore immature halo fanboys do you see? Resident Evil has sold millions upon millions of copies but how many Resident evil fanboys are there? Skyrim significantly has the one of the largest immature fanbases around even including the sales.Out of all those comments then since there are so many normal Skyrim fans shouldn't we also have seen thousands of skyrim comments not bashing the competition just because it isn't skyrim?
Not surprised. Everyone's looking forward to Skyrim. Now its just a matter of who gets the GOTY title. CODW MW3, Batman AC, LA Noire, Skyrim, BF3 or Deus Ex?
@shadowhunter0 just because you haven't encountered game breaking lag does not mean that the game is not broken, most of us are facing it and its simply frustrating to see Bugthesda's PR coming out and splatter nonsense on twitter after releasing a broken game (I cannot believe they didnt know about the problem before release)...I am not some stupid skyrim fanboy who will love the game despite being unable to play it!!! Skyrim PS3 is BROKEN!!!
the ps3 version of skyrim isn't broken I have put 200+ hours into it I have seen some bugs and glitches which is expected in a game this size and none of them were game breaking
I was about 40 hours into Dark Souls when I got Skyrim on the release day...I am still about 40 hours into Dark Souls.......
@roxomega the reason why is because raptr doesn't track how many hours you play a game on the ps3 it only tracks 360 and pc
@DukeBriggs : While we are at the basis of 'proving fact'...how can you prove that I am making it up? Just because something isn't on google doesn't make it false. While it isn't accurate to the exact point it is pretty #### accurate for the some odd 7thousand comments,I can in fact give you the link if you still doubt me (assuming you won't dismiss the entire web page too because it can't be found on google.Whether it be 'the minority choice' or not I am just saying what happened,Skyward Sword beat out Skyrim, not saying it is better or worse, interpret it how you will.Fanbase and sales don't always mean victory..if that were true CoD would've already won and would continue to win every year.Again almost everyone seems to be assuming (out of rage I might guess?) is that I said Skyrim itself is a bad game,I never said that,I said the majority of skyrim fans are immature (which makes it all the worse considering they claim to be following such a game that is truly fantastic yet they are giving a bad name).
@moviequest14 So you think 100+ is more than a select few? You do know that 3.4 million copies were sold in the first 2 days right? So... that would mean even 1000 comments are a select few. Any objective person can see that. They also can see that any boards online are filled with loud mouth immature idiots that love to spout off. I would guess that quite a few of those comments were just made by young immature kids that are excited about Skyrim and took their comments too far. The fact that you've let the select few, or the loud minority, effect you in such a way shows either a hyper sensitivity on your part or immaturity yourself. Fanboy is a correct moniker because you clearly are a Zelda die hard fan, your pic here is Zelda so clearly that is the case. The fact that you wont admit you clearly favor Zelda and that is a big reason as to why you are so offended by the posts shows where your head is at. Its fine everyone loves their games. But to try and pain one group of fans as extreme or immature because of a few idiots is small minded. For instance, I in no way feel that Zelda fans are hypocrites simply from your posts. I am able to determine that you alone are being hypocritical in your statements and arguments and it ends there.
I can't put it down, This game for me is like giving some crazy homeless man a gun and a pile of crack, Quick! Someone get me the spoon!
This will only fuel the hate gamespot... don"t you know you are only supposed to post bad things about skyrim :p
