Great news for me now I have time to pick up the collection and play the series never had a chance to try it on the PS2.
Sly Cooper: Thieves in Time delayed to 2013

Time-travelling latest entry in series pushed to early next year for PlayStation 3 and PlayStation Vita; no rationale provided.
The release date for Sly Cooper: Thieves in Time is travelling forward through time. A new trailer for the PlayStation 3 and PlayStation Vita project (embedded below) reveals the game has been delayed from fall 2012 to early 2013.
When Sly Cooper: Thieves in Time does arrive, it will be one of the first games to take advantage of Sony's new Cross Buy promotion. As part of the offer, gamers who pick up the PS3 version of the game will get the PS Vita iteration for free.
[UPDATE] Following the publication of this story, a PlayStation representative provided a statement on the game's delay.
"Sly Cooper: Thieves in Time will be releasing in February 2013 for PlayStation 3 and PlayStation Vita," reads a line from the statement. "With a robust and diverse catalog of first and third party content launching this holiday season--including Wonderbook: Book of Spells, PlayStation All Stars: Battle Royale, Little Big Planet Karting, Assassins Creed III, Assassin’s Creed III Liberation, Madden 13, and Call of Duty: Black Ops Declassified--we have decided to release Sly Cooper: Thieves in Time in early 2013 to ensure gamers continue to have a variety of content to enjoy after the holidays and into the New Year."
Sly Cooper: Thieves in Time is the first core entry in the series developed outside of Sucker Punch Productions, but Sony has tapped a studio familiar with the source material for the project. Sanzaru Games, which contributed to 2010's Sly Collection, is currently at work on Thieves in Time.

Doesnt matter, Both Luigi's Mansion Dark Moon and Sly Thieves in Time can delay as long as they want, Their Precious games that need to be as awesome as they can!
1 Like Even though I was really looking forward to getting Sly 4 this year, I'd rather wait and get the best game possible. I guess it may be possible that Sucker Punch is overseeing the project and wanted to make some changes.
in comparison! The Last of Us and Halo 4 look great and all but other than that I can't think of too many games I am excited for... In fact the main thing I am looking forward to this year is DLC - Dark Souls DLC ;)
wait what? ANOTHER delay :(. On the bright side, next year will be an epic year for games - Tomb Raider, Sly Cooper, Crysis 3, Bioshock Infinite, Dead Space 3, God of War Absolution... Sadly this year looks a bit 'meh'
1 Like Perhaps getting the Vita version done is delaying the title. Making a game across two platforms and release at the same time can cause delays, as we've seen with 3rd parties.
Still, I would rather Sly 4 measure up to the series than suck and kill the franchise, so I'm all for delays to improve a project.
4 (maybe even 5) exclusives next year seems kind of excessive, hopefully they space them out. But I won't need an announcement of PS4, when we got Ascension, Last Of Us, Beyond Two Souls, and now Sly. Sony had confirmed yesterday that Last Guardian was having some technical issues which explains it's long absence, so maybe that means will finally get to play it next year.

@servb0ts I second that sentiment, I would hate to see this series burn out on a restart after a 8 some-odd year hiatus. Get it clear of the triple-A Holiday release window and let 'er rip! Better late then never.
Also what if i buy it from the PSVita...will i still be able to play it on my PS3 for free? May seem obvious but i just want to be sure.
This isn't really a surprise. Sony is known for announcing lots of games at the E3 and they delaying a bunch of them months after the show is over. Anyone still waiting for The Last Guardian? I can wait though. I don't have a PSVita yet, but hopefully by the time this comes out I will. Getting a free copy for the PSVita is a nice bonus.
My guess is polish and the holiday release schedule. At this rate, the first part of 2013 will be even more crowded! Still, it sucks. I was really looking forward to it. :( At least I can finish the Sly Collection before then.
As long as I'm getting a better game, I'm fine with it. I hope they'll use the delay to add a CrossController feature.
NO. JUST NO. I've awaited the sequelin this franchise for two long :'( But I'd rather wait for a better game then have a worse game
so does this mean that the demo of sly cooper in the ratchet and clank collection be different from the final product?
Two things I hate:
1) Sucker Punch is not working on this Sly
2) Bump to 2013
I sure hope BOTH lead to a high quality title, or I will be very, very upset. The Sly series was my favorite franchise on the PS2 by a wide margin.
1 Like Well this is disappointing but if it's to make the game even better i suppose that's a good thing.
As disappointing as that is, they're probably working more on the game, polishing it up in case there are any bugs or glitches. This is a small team after all.
It's too bad though. September would've been a perfect release for the 10 year anniversary. *sigh* At least there's a Sly Cooper: Thieves in Time demo coming!
@DrRockso87 Nope, they've said the game is almost going gold and they already polished everything or almost everything. According to Matt Kraemer from Sanzaru Games it was Sony's decision to delay this game because sony thought that the game had a lot of competition until the end of the year...damn sony.
@TyranikingPT Wow, seriously? Dammit, Sony!! On one hand I can understand. Assassin's Creed III, Medal of Honor, Call of Duty, etc. but on the other hand, why not release it in September? Seriously, what is there? Borderlands 2? Early 2013 is probably more packed than 2012!!
Come on, Sony! You could've pushed this game for Holiday sales advertising the anniversary of Sly Cooper but I suppose that would require advertising, which everyone knows you do so well... *sigh*
