hey but on the plus side this should delp them with other weapon characters since all we have is marth, roy, links, ike, pit, MK for weapon characters that all use swords
Ubisoft signs on Game Arts for new heroes-in-a-half-shell fighter for release on unspecified platforms this fall.
Fighters aren't typically known for topping the sales charts, but Super Smash Bros. Brawl is a rare exception. The well-reviewed game mopped the floor with the competition in 2008, placing just behind Wii Fit as the US's fourth best-selling title with 4.17 million units.
Undoubtedly hoping lightning will strike twice, Ubisoft revealed today that it had scooped up Super Smash Bros. Brawl's developer to work on a similar fighter themed around its top kids' brand, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. A marked departure from other TMNT games, TMNT Smash Up will be an all-new property that isn't rooted in a movie, TV show, or comic book.
Aside from naming Game Arts as developer, Ubisoft did not offer much by way of details for TMNT Smash Up, except to say that it would be a four-player fighter. The publisher did release a pair of screenshots for the game, though. The TMNT shots show two Brawl-like arenas--one a dank sewer, the other a dark rooftop--where two turtles are battling. Players will apparently be able to toss their weapons, and the screenshots appear to indicate a strong aerial component.
Ubisoft expects to launch TMNT Smash Up as part of the franchise's 25th anniversary later this fall.
wait does that mean we still have sakurai on board for this game...if so i can see many clones in this game already(squirtle) lol jk but i rly used to love TMNT wen i was a kid so if they get this rite ill pick it up if i have a wii by then
TMNT should just be in the next Super Smash Bros... that would be easier and the turtles might be in something good. Cause I love the Turtles and I hate to see them in something that sux!
I wish they'd work on an actual adventure, a well done one. Maybe a sandbox game with Turtles, woot.
If this goes well, they could start making SSB-like games of other franchises. That'd be pretty awesome.
Why don't they just let those turtles RIP - the toy line, the cartoon series, the movies - their all gone. There is no TMNT "craze" anymore and no kids who are even remotely interested in TNMT - much less even remember them... it's OVER! Let it die already!
I hope it has a decent 1 player adventure built in. And a better system to unlock other characters, say buying them with points.
Why can't we just get a next-gen version of the arcade side-scroller? Maybe follow Street Fighter IV's formula: make it look brand new while keeping that old-school gameplay.
TMNT is a good franchise. Props to Eastman and Laird, even though others have taken the concept beyond the original comic. There always seems to be a Turtles project going on at all times, whether it be a movie, comic, cartoon series or video game. Gotta love those little green guys.
That reminds me, I did play the recent TMNT game on the GBA. It's one of the better beat 'em ups I've played in a long while.
Is TMNT still a strong selling property? I guess I'm kinda old now, so I wouldn't know. I remember hating/loving the first TMNT on the NES and absolutely loving TMNT II on the NES. Honestly, I'd be more interested in buying this because Game Arts is doing a Brawl-like game, rather than the TMNT being in it. Game Arts could do a similar game with Bleach characters instead, for example (which might actually make more sense).
Hmm, it'll be nice to see more Brawl style fighters. Most fighters are your typical crazy combos and slow shuffling movements.
Am I the only one who is really excited about this game? It's super smash brothers with NINJA TURTLES! Go ninja go ninja go!
Huh, this seems interesting. Man the TMNT games for the NES and SNES were a little.... oh I can't think of the word. I clearly remember likeing Turtles in Time for the SNES tho.
No TMNT games for the NES were role playing. If you're thinking of the first one, eh... I guess, since you can sort of pick and choose the levels you do. But that was probably one of the more frustrating points of my childhood, given that that game was so horrible haha. The third one (which was supposed to kind of be like the arcade version, except the NES couldn't handle the real version of the arcade so they had to dumb it down) was a really good game, I think. I think if anyone is a TMNT fan and even if they are too young to remember that one (Manhattan Project) should probably get an emulator and play it. :) Anything they've put out since they had to implement 3d graphics has been awful. All the 2D games are much better.
The original NES TMNT was more like an urban roleplaying game meshed with bits of side scrolling platform hoping and exploration nothing like the arcade games which were more like beatem ups. Both of those play styles were fun. I've played the first arcade version of TMNT, the sequel turtles in time, and the original NES. I don't quite remember the sequels to the NES version I know that one was a port of the arcade though.Correct me if I'm wrong wasn't there a game like this SSBB clone already planned for development for TMNT for last gen consoles like the original xbox? I seem to remember seeing Gamespot screens of it. If so why are they doing this again? I'll see if I can find a link to said game coverage.
I would prefer if this game was more like the old Ninja Turtles on the NES as this seems like it is possibly a SSB clone. I think a good developer that did SSB could make a nice platformer like TMNT II: The Arcade Game or TMNT IV: Turtles in Time. Those were great classics.
TMNT hasn't been good since they went with the more Japanimation-looking turtles instead of the ones I knew as a kid. And this looks awful. Producers these days sure know how to destroy the things I loved as a child.
Nintendo Power had this game on its cover two issues ago . . . and they showed a lot more than two levels in it. Gamespot seems to be a bit behind. It's definitely coming out for the Wii.
Ninja Turtle Fans, ho!!!!! this looks exciting. though some previous turtle titles have left wanting, this could still be cool if they include alot of villains :D
Everybody's starting to "copy" nintendo now. EA are making a game or is it released already, I don't but it's very similiar to Wii fit. And now Ubisoft is hiring a devoloper to try to make a game similar in the "fighting genre" . People may complain about the wii but it's games remain the most original.
HAAA!!!!!! They put up on the front page screenshots from a "PS3" version of this game just to prove us wrong. HAAA!!!!! Good one GS. It's still going to be a Wii-Exclusive and it's not coming to your beloved Xbox360. Not saying Xbox360 is a bad system, in fact it's a great system but this isn't coming to it.
LMAO I just realized I planned on watching recent TMNT movie on blu ray tonight...quite a coincidence!
My god I would throw whatever it took to get my hands on a TMNT4: Turtles in Time remake...that would be amazing
Awesome. Here's hoping its as good as Tournament Fighters. And, there's only been like two TMNT titles on current gen platforms, including this one, msudude. Although, I kind of don't like the remake they gave the Turtles in the movie TMNT... I honestly wish they'd go back to the early days when there was blood, the Turtles swore and things were cool.
Yeah I've been wanting a REALLY coolness Ninja Turtles game for a while now anyway. I remember playing the arcade and the NES version all the time when I was a kid.
