PS3 maker intends to have service "fully" restored by the end of this month, possibly putting network outage at around six weeks.
Nearly three weeks after pulling the plug on the PlayStation Network, Sony says it plans to have its online systems fully back online by May 31. Tokyo-based spokesman Shigenori Yoshida told Bloomberg that Sony is in the process of improving its security system and aims to have the service "fully" restored by the end of the month.
The revised deadline comes after Sony missed its initial target date last week; on April 27, the company said it expected "to have some services up and running within a week from yesterday." If Sony resumes PSN service on May 31, the global outage will have lasted six weeks in total.
Sony took the PSN offline on April 20 after the service was hacked, compromising the personal data and account details of millions of users. It formally owned up to the network intrusion and potential data theft some days later, and later still, it confirmed to Congress that data had indeed been stolen from all 77 million PSN accounts.
The firm is currently investigating the hack with the aid of Homeland Security, the FBI, and external security firms and has outlined user compensation packages, including identity theft protection scheme memberships and free content.
@ziproy GUess you didnt see that part in the ToS that states by agreeing with it, you cannot hack or mod the PS3 hardware in anyway, shape or form.
@xGlenn11x Well, obviously thats a lie, because LIVE has been hacked quite a few times and has actually had CC information stolen.
@EVIL346 You know what the difference is Between PSN and LIVE? Adults play on PSN, while racist 12 year olds fresh on puberty play LIVE.
just bought a ps3 and im a little frustrated by psn being down, but im sure once its working again (and secure hopefully) itll be great, so sadly back to xbl lol bc2!!
Ok i was just now playing Call Of Duty MW2 and it went off and now its saying "under maintainence" agian... what just happened??
XboxGuy1537 Posted May 13, 2011 4:22 am GMT What in the hell did these hackers plan to achieve in hacking Sony? --- If I had to guess, messing with Sony and stealing personal and credit card information. If so, mission accomplished.
Xbox is lame Tacojoint says? play on your ps3 offline its great hahahahaha without party chat now thats lame always online issues on PSN. Obviously your brainwashed by sony but if you think psn is better i think better play online with your pc and forget ps3. sony's reign is over and i am glad it is even if atari make a come back and sega i would love it and buy them. anything except sony and their propaganda and hype with their comparisons with games and that powerhouse black brick FULL HD graphics and don't even compare the ps3 with the pc coz for sure your eyes still see the ps3 version of their games better hahahaha
and guys i forgot to say something dat u cn never compare to sli gtx 580 u carry on with ur lame graphx=8800 gt graphx
shut up guys ad stop complaining to psn come to pc and enjoy unintrptd gaming with more powerful machines
Muhahahahahahahhahahahahaha ima play some Halo beeacthes! (Let the thumbs downing begin!) I be trollin' patrollin'
@Tacojoint Last I recall Microsoft has sold more units than Sony, has more games, better games, better service, better use of other services (i.e. Netflix, ESPN, Facebook), and a better all-around system. And one thing Microsoft doesn't allow to happen, is allowing their online service to get hacked by a bunch of kids. And this is for all PS3 owners, I owned a PS3, enjoyed it briefly, but don't complain since you don't pay for your service. It is free, so it is only proper that your service acts as cheap as it is.
And this is supposed to be better than xboxlive coz its free if this happened on xboxlive sony fans would have squashed xbox but for the fanboys nothing is ever wrong on ps3 and over a month without online is fine for them coz its free As for the fee on xboxlive i think its rediculous coz sony is trying to find ways to do the same with ps+ and still no party chat. online is all about communication even playing single player or playing with different games friends join and its great fun but for sony this option still doesn't exist. PSN can be great but xboxlive for online gaming is better and those who have both machines know this
Sony better have learned their lesson. When we buy a console it is ours, if we wanna jail break it we can. Sure you can withold network service and thats fine but when I buy my console it is now completely mine
@OldKye We shall bring upon you your demise, the wrath of the chode, Andrew_Sertsis. Shall you be lost in the trolls. Sloot.
2MidwestGuy heres a question how many people do you guys thank r tradiing in the ps3 because of this problem. ************************************************************* If the PS3 was my #1 source for playing online games, I probably would, but I play all my online games on XBox Live. PSN doesn't affect me much as I play mostly single player exclusives on it. I would like to get to the PSN Store, as there were a few titles I wanted to download
@OldKye In your other posts, you worded your point so badly that I honestly thought you were stupid and you actually didn't sound like you were agreeing with me. How old are you anyway?
I understand the Microsoft has better security, and they make software, and they know how to deal with hackers. But that wont stop someone trying and possibly managing. Many big public sector factions (military etc) have been hacked in the past so there is NOTHING to stop it happening to Microsoft. Some clever person always find a way.
@Garudyne989 k I'm going to clarify for the last time then I'm giving up on you as a human being your original post you know... the one you made like 8 posts ago i agreed with in that first reply to it hence the reason this last post follows those lines but clearly you are trying so hard to argue with me that you never even read any of what i wrote your just making up in your head what i must be saying so plz feel free to keep posting and re posting as you have here twice to me right after each other as long as you need to feel better but take the @oldkye off so it stops sending me messages

I really hate, HACKERS. If you are a hacker and reading this.....you are no different than a low life thug.
