Square Enix prepping Final Fantasy XIII-2 reveal?

square enix is killing FF series i was very disappointed with crap fantasy xiii!!! what happened to you guys you used to make kick ass rpg's but since sakaguchi left the company FF is not the same the only two games that i liked since sakaguchi left was FFX and FFVII crisis core, square enix is losing its magic i hope that ff xii versus raise my expectations!!

I liked XIII, but i also thought the story got a little...vague at times. Half the time i didn't even know who my real enemy was. I'm hoping the sequel has a better story this time around.

If I wanted to watch a movie, I would watch a movie. I enjoy good graphics and kick ass CS's as much as the next girl, but I want to control my characters not watch the AIs play my game for me. You, the developer, control 2/3s of the characters. How is that me playing the game? With that level of logic I should only have to pay 20 bucks for it since I only get to control 1/3 of my team. Isn't there any company out there willing to pick up the torch and give us true turn based rpgs with a storyline and characters that we can love and turn into the biggest, baddest, best equipped fighting machines that we spent endless hours getting them to?

I am I guess what you would refer to as "An old time gamer". I started out playing D&D with a group of friends where we would invade a different house every weekend, eat them out of house and home, and go without sleep from friday evening to late sunday night. We would immerse ourselves into our characters and our Dungeon Master could make us almost feel the weight of our weapons in our hands. Then we entered the age of technology and found a new realm of fantasy to spend endless hours exploring. I find it hard to believe that the people like me are a dying breed. That there aren't still a large number of us roaming the world. Endlessly searching for that next game that will feed our needs. A true RPG, a turn based, let me enjoy the fight rather than speed me through it at warp speed, while my fingers desperately try to find the correct mashing order to kill the big ugly. I want a storyline, I want characters that I can enjoy, I want a huge world that I spend 100+ hours finding all the nifty new gear and weapons, I WANT subquests and depth and for the developers to remember we are not all 13 year olds that like and enjoy button mashing!

i love my OG jrpg's but seriously after playing the turn based battles for maybe more than 15 years im tired of it. FF13's battle system in my opinion was actually great although the game's very linear and melodramatic. action rpg's i think is the future of rpgs, kingdom hearts proved that to me. we have the technology to mix frantic battles and rpg elements compared 10-15 years ago and thats progression. progression is always good.

And plz dont mention ff6-7-8-10 cause yeah these are REAL JRPG + except the graphics ff6 7-8-9-10 gameplay and durability crush ff13 with eaze nuff said.now go play your short third action adventure rpg wannabe and stop talking about old ff's u dont know what the f@ck u r saying

U can say wtf u want Rubykohana this particular FF sucks,it maybe has the nice graphics and sound (most kids nowdays are judging a game by its graphics and not by the gamplay)it sale well cause square enix didnt mention almos nothing about the battle system and how linear this game would be.All u do in ff13 is runing forward..no exploration,minigames,travels nothing at all just move forward and press autobattle all the time = thats it u finished ff13.

I'd be glad to see a FF 13-2 I hope Fang is in it she was one of my favorite characters. One thing that bothers me though is how every "Old Skool" FF fan seems to love dissing the new games and or comparing them to the old ones. Truthfully it makes me sick do you think when crafting these games they think to themselves "Let's make it better then 7 or 8 or 9" no that's stupid what's worse is that none of the games are really even meant to be similiar they are all suppose to be unique. You should be happy every game they've given you a unique world and characters to appreciate and none of the games have been abysmal anyone who says otherwise just isn't a real fan of the series. I'm also a little peeved Final Fantasy falls under this ridiculous category of JRPG not only have almost all their games had a Westernized, Medievil or Technology based back story, but there was never really anything JRPGish about them. Now lol Versus 13 is a different story I hear. Honestly FF6,7,8 JRPG's? Ridiculous. Anyway hopefully this is true and by the way I don't think FF13 is the greatest game ever, but it was still fun in my opinion and had a good story and nice characters. cept for Hope, lol I hate him with a passion I guess towards the end he started redeeming himself though.

I won't be buying it. Nuff said.

How are they talking about a sequel for ff13, when 13 versus doesn't even have a due date?

The difference between Squaresoft and Square-Enix is it that separates pure art and only money. The point is that in the end, the pure art of ever more money than what is done only for money. The merger of Square-Enix has been one of the biggest failures of the decade.

@IrshDrkWlf don't get me wrong, i liked ff13 fast paced start, and i have to admit that the storyline was(at first) compelling, but if i have to compare to other ff games, it doesn't stand. even the 8 was better, even if you're right about the equipments, weapons and items in general. at least the battle sistem was almost the same as the 7, and the story was good. yes i was 16 when i played it, but it was a good story, set in a vast open world for a game of those times. don't be so harsh on judging ff8, it was still written by sakaguchi, and it was still SQUARESOFT. ff13 wasn't a rpg at all. it was technically stunning, but it killed the final fantasy franchise, not by sell rates, but i think a lot of fans felt disappointed like me. and still, we all will buy every ff game that comes next, hoping helplessly for a return of the lost sensations on final fantasy 7 :D

@Orochimaru_Fan I haven't played XIV but since its an MMO I would think that it doesn't exactly fit in the same category with the rest of FF. I remember thinking the same thing when XIV came out but then I saw it was online and disregarded it

shouldn't take that long to develop, I think most of Square Enix's time with Final Fantasy XIII was spent getting the Crystal Tools Engine to work and now that that's been finished hopefully they'll be able to bring another game out quicker

FFXIII VS or GTFudgeO. I hope this isn't like FFX-2, although the character models were nice for their time. On second thought, SE should make a volleyball game with all of the females from final fantasy and have them wearing the skimpiest outfits possible. That would be good.

@0bags Ever played FFX? That's hardly just a good vs evil story. Yes, there's Sin, a creature whose sole purpose is to destroy everything for seemingly no reason, but there's also the corrupt religion that took advantage of the people's ignorance. They were not just evil; they were doing what they genuinely believed was best for the people. Not to mention the dynamics between Tidus and his father, and the Al Bhed and the church of Yevon. When did we gamers get it into our heads that characters like Hope and Tidus were whiny emos? I have another word to describe them: emotional. Unwilling to pretend everything's okay just because society wants them to hold it all in. They wear their emotions on their sleeves, unlike the average adult male, and as far as I'm concerned it bothers us because we want to pretend our world is just fine, that none of us are damaged individuals, that everything MAKES SENSE. That's what makes them the best kind of character for me.

ff storylines are way too light for modern audiecnes, the whole good vs evil motif is just over done.i just hope they just try to address and just make the game a little darker. and kill of hope cause he was and whinny emo btch

As long as they keep the battle system ( i liked it ) and got rid of the ever-so-linear nature of the game, i think it'll be fine...idk where they'd go story wise however.

Please no. Please don't make me pay another 60 bucks to get frustrated again. Wait let me rephrase this. If you're going to make FF13-2, then at least do a total reform on the combat system, namely the length of time to beat a single match and to reinstate random encounters. I have to laugh and cry at this, because it literally took 7 minutes to finish a normal match. The worst part? The game EXPECTED you to finish that long! Right there, the PAR time says 7:30. Are they insane? Do you expect people like me to want to spend half an hour on 5 normal matches? I'd expect this from a boss fight, but a regular ol' small enemy match? I want to experience the story of Final Fantasy 13, not mash buttons all day! Look Square-Enix, the game is pretty and all, but graphics is NEVER what makes a game. It is 55% gameplay and 45% storyline. This game lacks slightly in storyline and lacks MAJORLY in gameplay. If you want to make more sales, aka more moolah, then make the game fun to play!

It would be cool but to be truthful the title "final Fantasy" is The final fantasy of that universe that was created. (Or thats what it was before the company merge) I hope to never see anything else from FF13 except verses and agoto. This also goes for FF7 Yes it would be cool to see it remade with new grafic but i'm not sure I can stand watching cloud and Vincent QQ for another 80 hours. Pleas Squrae leave your games alone. If anything I hope that they go back to making things with lesser grafics and with better plot. (My QQ Mode): Most games now days are all about flashy grafics and what sells to the casual players, but us original gamers want Plot, story, and amazing charters that we will rember when we are old.

Someone told me that FFXIII was the final one, perhaps not. This pleases me.

So exactly how did Advent Children suck so much? Not to mention there's Dirge of Cerberus. I can't imagine a game bearing the name Final Fantasy VII-2. X started the trend of adding "-2", so any games after that that get sequels are going to have "-2" in them as well, barring Revenant Wings. That or "Final Fantasy XIII-2" is just a working title.

But today there are maybe a 3rd of the JRPGs being released compared to the prior console cycle. Why? Because most people don't play or like them anymore. And when consumers don't want something the market eventually stops providing it and pouring money into it. So maybe if you account for things like inflation, the bigger budgets needed just to make a game stand out today, and how refined many of the "superficial" aspects need to be for it to get noticed (i.e. graphics, sound, etc), the FFXIII development team was getting squeezed by the changes in the market, which left them with--comparatively speaking--less money to work with. This market shift could also be the reason why we haven't heard anything about Versus or Agito since getting announced four years ago: no desire for SE to fund them because nobody WANTS them This might also explain the continued delays of Kingom Hearts 3 cause funding a PS3 title is obviously MUCH more expensive than funding handheld installments of which there are now more for KH than console installments But these are just speculations and none of them change the fact that SE doesn't feel like the company it used to be Whether thats because of the market the departure of big names like Kobayashi or a turn for the worse in their management and development practices it remains a source of frustration for me and many other gamers too I'd imagine
