I tried the demo and it wasn't worth the time it took to download. They could of made a good game, but they really half-ass this one. And part of the reason it won't be coming to consoles is no one is going to buy a multiplayer game that you have to pay 2 play!!! I can't believe PC users haven't come up with a way to play mmo's for free yet!
Cryptic Studios says its tepidly received sci-fi MMORPG will remain on PC only due to difficulties with "the business side of things."
Cryptic Studios announced the massively multiplayer online role-playing games Champions Online and Star Trek Online within a few months of each other for the PC and consoles in 2008. The PC editions of those games landed to soft critical receptions within a few months of each other in 2009 and 2010, and now the demise of their console editions have also come in lockstep.
With the Atari-owned studio confirming that "there are no current plans for a console version of Champions" in late March, executive producer Craig Zinkievich has said that a similar fate has befallen Star Trek Online. "It's pretty much in the same boat as the Champions console version right now," Zinkievich told UK gaming site VideoGamer.
"It's something we can readily do in terms of technology," he continued. "We've had it up and running on certain consoles and had plans and designs in order to take advantage of those platforms. But as it stands right now, it's a little difficult to make that final leap on the business side of things. So, currently, just like Champions, the console version of Star Trek Online is on the back burner."
Star Trek Online operates independently from any of the events established in the film or television series. Players assume the role of a starship captain operating under the banner of either the United Federation of Planets (better known simply as "the Federation") or the Klingons, who are locked in an intergalactic struggle.

@DiscGuru101 Then I will state something very boldly too: STO Sucks. that's my opinion and, sinc you don't agree with it, then you are very very wrong and your opinion doesn't count
@Chainer323 well then PS3 owners should feel lucky this broken, buggy, lack-luster game wont stain their current library of games. tbh, if i see anyone on my friends list playing this game (if it even get released) they will immediatly be removed.
@ Chainer323When it comes to STO being the most fully realized Star Trek game or not? Yes. I am stating it boldy. You are wrong if you disagree with me. By definition, "best" is an appropriate lable. Now one may enjoy another Star Trek game more, but not because it's a better Star Trek game.
@airsoftmanic you know they never said they were going to put this game on the PS3. only big MMO that is heading there is FFXIV
@DiscGuru101 i love how you claim that anyone that has an opinion that doesn't match with yours is completely wrong. maybe it's time to get off your high horse?
@ Bazackward Elite Force was not that good to me. I did beat Bridge Commander many times and I went back and played it a few weeks ago. The space battles aren't as good and what you can do is severely limited. The first two years of CoH had tons of innovation so even though the Nerfs sucked, I am no Cryptic hater.
@DiscGuru101 Apparently you didn't play Elite Force or, in my opinion, Bridge Commander. STO is terrible for Star Trek or any other franchise. When you release in incomplete game that's buggy with a completely retarded AI, I'm sorry, you can't consider that to be an even mediocre game. When you add the full of fail company Cryptic to the mix, you've got a full on disaster. Time for you to review some Star Trek game history.
I think the hate got a little out of control here. It IS the best Star Trek game ever made. Sorry, you are wrong if you think otherwise. Although, most of the other ones did rather suck. The graphics are particle effects are fantastic if you have the horsepower. Ground combat is the deal breaker for most people - but I use engineering pets so... Eitherway, MMO's tend to do poorly on consoles - this one had no chance of being different than the normal console MMO bait.
STO was one of the biggest launches in a longgg time, biggest game, endless possibility, would of been almost impossible to screw up in any game-breaking way. However, they managed to write the game off completely, absolutely everything is flat out ruined... no amount of future patches could solve that disaster! Thank god it looks as if there giving up for the consoles. P,s P2P is the realistic platform, "F2P" is poison in the gaming world + MS have no problems with developers charging console users for MMORPGs.
Don't feel bad console fans... with STO enemies and bridge officers as smart as a can of paint, you aren't missing much.
"the business side of things" translated = "because we decided to go P2P, we're gonna have to charge the console players as well but microsoft and sony arnt hearing any of it" P2P killed this game so bad.
Well, crap....seriously. I was keeping my fingers crossed STO might actually see the X360. Oh well...their loss.
Kharma hates Trekkies because they irritate everyone in the Galaxy! (I say this knowing my own kind far too well, I love ST, so Trekkies take a pill I'm one of you!) It would seem the closest we will ever get to an exceptable ST game is "Conquest" & "Voyager Elite"... which is sorta sad when you give it a thought. There are a ton of licensed games and they all stink, why is it so difficult to get funding, fan input, and do it right? But then again, Lucas hasn't succeeded in bringing his world to a computer either, and he's loaded and up to his buttocks in fan input - Perhaps I'm wrong...
Both games weren't great for one and didn't sell that great on the PC. Cryptic Studios is having a hard time trying to get these 2 PC titles fixed and running smoothly on the PC. Plus they still need to try and build up the user base. Not an easy task to do. So imagine them trying to do this on the XBox 360 and PS3 as well? That's going to be a LOT of work. That's why they aren't releasing these games for the consoles. Poor sales and not enough workers who could hand the tasks of patching and fixing the games. After reading the reviews and forums, I don't think I would waste my time on either of these games. ************************************************************* @TrueIori damn i was really looking forward to Star trek and champs on console...........Not. Every time i hear MMo and Console in the same sentence i just can't stop but to laugh. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I do the same thing everytime I hear fighting or sports games on the PC. lol!! Why would anyone want to play those on a PC? Both the 360 and PS2 already has FF XI on their consoles. The PS2 also had Everyquest Adventures. So it can be done.
This sounds like the first smart decision they've made. Nobody likes your POS, buggy PC game and you know Sony and Microsoft aren't going to put up with your BS. My advice for Cryptic is to find something they're good at because making MMOs is not their forte.
i could live with this being on the pc for a few more years. i mean, i get tired of being shot up on battlefield or halo, or cod with someone saying "BOOM HEADSHOT!" could you live with hearing "BOOM PHASERSHOT" or getting your ship decimated by some nerd with photon torpedoes going through your ship's shields because they have sat home all day finding out how to hack your ship's sheld resonance? yes, i watch star trPr
@Sirbobislost Have you played anything other than crappy Star Trek games to know what a good game actually is? There have been NO good Star Trek games and certainly no original ones. Elite Force 1 and 2 were ok but still Quake in Star Trek uniform. Star Trek is dead Long Live Mass Effect !!!
Well a good thing about pc to console ports or console to pc ports is that only the games that sell well (usually the better ones) get ported. The duds languish on the original platform.
yeah aka our game sucks so we are not going to bother with other editions. and yes I have played it and its champions online in spaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaace. with the star fleet command engine on top of it
Try making a better game and the "business side" will take care of itself. Disappointing though, was hoping this game would be good.
Quote: "Cryptic Studios says its tepidly received sci-fi MMORPG will remain on PC only due to difficulties with "the business side of things." Translation: Our game is absolutely terrible and people know it now, so we're not even going to bother with the console version.
Another Star Trek game that isn't any good. Not a big surprise as Star Trek is really about ideas. Yet it still surprises me nobody can come up with a good linear adventure story game based on Trek? I mean something where you play a Worf type officer caught up in a chase for some rogue bad guy terrorist type?
The creative types need to think smaller on this. More awareness of a tree and not so much worry about all of the forest. We care about Drake or Snake or Kratos or Cole or Ezio winning. If we didn't invest in these characters' tales would their worlds be interesting? Change your focus Trek game creators.
@ NicWombat have you actually played it to call it crappy? It's the best startrek game I've played since starfleet command 3 although having trouble remembering another startrek game lol
Why? Why do they keep ruining the world of Star Trek with endless crappy games? How about putting in a little effort and making a good game for a change? It might even make them some more money...
In other words this game is so bad and is such a flop that they wouldn't dare waste more money developing the console version because they know no one is going to buy it. Star Trek online is one of the worst MMO's i have seen in many years when you consider the franchise it's based on and how much money they probably had at their disposal. An absolute atrocity.
Who plays PC games nowadays? Other than millions of WoW addicts. They can't compete with that. Guess they aren't interested in making money. lol
I wasn't impressed with the beta at all. I KNOW IT WAS A BETA!! With that covered... I didn't like anything about the game.
ya, i enjoyed the game, the space was alot of fun. but ground combat was just well, crappy. I think its the game engine they use, it feels like you can break it just by moving to fast, or pressing alot of buttons in a short amount of time. it realy feels glitchy. Not gonna lie tho, i did realy enjoy space battles. but man, i HATED going to ground combat (prety much half of every mission)
moved to the back burner because the game is rubbish on the pc and the console version would not be any better.
I was hoping this would go to the console but after watching the review it brings back all those old feelings of all the other star trek games I've played that left me disappointed. This game had alot of potential but once again the game makers messed up like on so many of the other games that had a chance at greatness and now this games only future isto end up in the reject bin or on your shelf collecting dust.
There is no way STO would play well on a console. It requires a mouse and keyboard. It was frankly retarded to think either of these MMO's would be worth porting for the tiny sliver of players who would be interested.
Even if they released it on the consoles I highly doubt that they would have good sales. Since, most of the console market is not really into MMO's. Just saying.
I think it has less to do with the $15 a month, and more to do with the fact that this was a TERRIBLE excuse for a game. I really wanted to like it, CoH was my MMO for a long time, but I don't see how Cryptic is going to stay in business after dropping two $50 turd-in-a-box-bombs in the last few months.
damn i was really looking forward to Star trek and champs on console...........Not. Every time i hear MMo and Console in the same sentence i just can't stop but to laugh.
The diff between AoC going to consoles and Champions or STO going to consoles is that Champions and STO suck hard.
b.s. they all say the same about every single new mmo, but then it'll either take 2/3 years to make or they'll never make it. seems to be just a marketing strategy
When I heard of Star Trek Online coming to consoles, I knew it wasn't going to happen. This was especially apparent since it seemed nobody really had any information on it coming to the 360. It has gone the way of Age of Conan, unfortunately. :(
Why dont these guys just make character creators for other mmo's...because thats all they know how to do.
I am not a Star Trek fan what so ever; never have been and never will be. But I do know how classic and legendary the series is to sci-fiction fans, and how DARE Cryptic go in there with half a head; they must feel like complete failures, but if they really said to themselves, "wow, yeah; this game is finished and needs no more work, let's get it gold," I'm assuming they don't have the mental capacity to feel shame.
