The developers of Privateer went on to make Starlancer and then later on Freelancer, all the games are very much alike. I could see a Freelancer 2 coming at some point, but I think Privateer itself is dead.
Chronicles of Riddick studio "deep in development" on 360, PS3, and PC game code-named Project RedLime.
Since E.T. for the Atari 2600 embodied everything that nearly killed the gaming industry in 1983, film-to-game adaptations have frequently been viewed by the traditional gamer crowd as anathema at best. One exception to the rule was Starbreeze Studios' Chronicles of Riddick: Escape from Butcher Bay, a surprise critical darling that was heralded as one of the best games of 2004. Starbreeze followed that success with the equally cinematic and similarly well-received shooter The Darkness in 2007.
Having taken notice of Starbreeze's mounting track record, EA has decided to pass off one of its "most acclaimed classic franchises" for "reinvention" to the Uppsala, Sweden-based studio. Operating under the internal code name Project RedLime, EA said the game will appear on the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PC.
According to Starbreeze CEO Johan Kristiansson, the team is "already deep in development" on Project RedLime, though no other details on the game were revealed. EA has a number of beloved dormant franchises on its hands, not the least of which being Wing Commander, Desert/Jungle Strike, Road Rash, and Syndicate.
Top 5 out-of-nowhere guesses: Fade to Black, Ultima, SSX, Where in Time is Carmen SanDiego, and Shaq Fu... I can't wait to see what starbreeze does with Carmen SanDiego ;) P.S. @Chazmeister The MOH series is not "Dormant" or "Classic" so I'm pretty sure that's ruled out...
Although this game will almost certainly turn out to be System Shock 3, it'd please me to no end to see the 3rd CRUSADER.
I agree, I've been saying MUTANT LEAGUE FOOTBALL next gen would be AWESOME!! Totally destructible fields with crazy monsters!!!!!
One other major EA franchise that no has mentioned yet is the Medal of Honor series. My money is on that as Starbreeze's past track record for great games is in developing FPS's. I'm guessing EA have seen how well the new CoD4 game has done and want a piece of that action. Just think a contemporary war shooter a la CoD4 but with Starbreezes less linear and more open world approach to it. Its certainly a game I'd look forwards to.
what about a new simpsons game. check apu's stand, http://www.universalorlando.com/usf_attr_simpsons.html?__source=emailus0208
Definitely would not mind if Road Rash or Desert/Jungle Strike were brought back to life. Not really caring about the other two titles.
The Darkness isn't nearly as good as Riddick, IMO, but I think Starbreeze can pull this off. I actually hope it's Wing Commander. That series was great for its day.
I wouldn't mind seeing some of these games brought back to life. That's when EA was fun. They're too busy trying to make a buck.
I wish they would bring back Mutant League Football. But as long as its not James Pond they are reviving I guess its all good.
I heard Molyneux say that a Syndicate sequel was in the works, but not necessarily by his team. Still, I'd sell my sould to see a return of MUTANT LEAGUE FOOTBALL!!!
OH! I hope it's a new Syndicate game. I quite enjoyed the open-ness of Syndicate Wars. The Deus-Ex universe always reminded me of the Syndicate universe. Regardless, I bet the game is an FPS. Obey the Persuadatron! I still want a Road Rash update... even if it is just an XBLA game. If GTA would just introduce melee weapons on motorcycles and bring back long stretches of highway, Road Rash would be obsoleted.
@nintendorocks. Sinse Dice are still Making Battlefield Games, with one dew soon. so it wont be battlefield
The notion of the name "RedLime" actually made me think of Crusader almost instantly, primarily due to the color of the Silencer's suit. As for a Wing Commander game, I too would love to see a GOOD sequel/spin-off to it or whatever, but it already has so much entries into the series it may/may not be the game they're working on. As for new Syndicate or Road Rash games, why not?
Battlefield is FAR too recent to qualify as a "Classic". System Shock 3 was already being tinkered on by the Godfather game team. My money is on it being a series they discarded like Ultima, Syndicate, Dungeon Keeper, Wing Commander, etc...
My guess is Battlefield. Just for the sake of Starbreeze being a first person shooter developer. But I'm really curious to see what they can do.
Heheheh, its gotta by syndicate or wing commander, id go with syndicate. Those other games dont suit their expertise. They make dark and gritty games, which syndicate suits nicely.
I hope its system shock 3. I never played the other 2 but Bioshock was definitely the best game of 07 in my opinon. System shock 3( if bioshock was anything like ss 1+2) would more likely be made by starbreeze than the games listed above.
Vambran - EA needs to stay away from Starbreeze. Vivendi Games needs to stop EA from Working / Buying out this great Dev. Where in the article did it say that EA was buying Starbreeze? Read the whole thing before jumping to conclusions. On that note, isn't EA reworking Need For Speed, trying to get back to basics on this game gone to hell?
