Super Mario 64 tops DS charts in Japan
Sales through Feb 6 see first-party titles crowding the top slots; tie ratio underwhelming.
TOKYO--The latest issue of Nintendo Dream released the most recent sales figures for DS titles, and it was a dream for Nintendo as many of its titles dominated the charts. Super Mario 64 is the best-selling game on the Nintendo DS in Japan, according to the magazine, followed very closely by WarioWare! Touched in second place, and Pokemon Dash lagging behind in third place.
The top five games out of the 16 titles released before February 6 when the magazine compiled its figures, were games by Nintendo. (Yoshi's Touch and Go is noticeably absent, as that title hit retailers only two weeks before the tally was taken.)
According to the magazine's research, 2.36 million DS games were sold through February 6. As the new handheld has already sold over 1.77 million units in this market, according to research group Media Create, the tie ratio (number of games bought relative to number of users) is a paltry 1.3 games.
