Wait.. As cool as this is, how are they preventing folks from just walking away with the 3DS? I know the thing will have obviously been modified to only be a guide and nothing more, but unless it's tethered to a mighty long piece of string I can see some kids attempting to steal this one! I visited the Louvre last year, and as amazing as the place is there's no real 'security' barriers, just one big ass queue and then some desks to buy your tickets. I can see this guided tour thing costing an arm and a leg :?

Great move by both Nintendo and the Louvres. I go there almost every year, and the traditional headset isn't quite cutting it. The 3DS, if used with some imagination, can provide very helpful background info to the visitor. Looking forward to using this next year!

It's crazy how my parents wanted me to go to a museum with a whole bunch of nude paintings and such but did not let me see porn. I mean, seriously, what's the difference of the two? Not to say that porn is child friendly or anything.

That's cool. I wonder if there is a special firmware just for this so people cannot do other things with them. That would be something to deter theft.

I think all the museums should do this.And they should make it so you can bring your own.Imagine all those 3DS's and Vita's in one place,trading and streaming data.Think how many more people would go.And the more fun museums,the hands on ones,the Science and Industry ones,Smithsonian,those would all be a blast.I guess they'd need one robust wi-fi connection.

Wow.Way to take dusty old museum filled with really old paintings into the 21st century! Curator:"Some video game machines oughta get some kids in here!" Seriously though,that's pretty awesome.It's about time things started becoming like old movies envisioned for the future,where everyone has some personal device or devices they can use to access all kind of things virtually anywhere,and we're getting really close with smartphones,tabs,and game machines.I'm glad I live in this century and not back in colonial times.
