The timing of this article coming out was eerily uncanny - I actually just finished beating Metro for the first time the night before! Crazy huh. I've had the game pretty much since day one but took my time with it (as I do nearly all my games to savor the experience). Needless to say, I'm verry excited about this news.
Publisher grabs Lastlightgame.com, Metro2033lastlight.com, and Metrolastlight.com; no official word yet as to what they pertain to.
In 2010, THQ and 4A Games released Metro 2033--a shooter set in postapocalyptic Russia--for the Xbox 360 and PC to a warm critical reception. After confirming that the franchise would get a 3D-enabled sequel called Metro 2034 last June, THQ has said little about the project. Now, new information on the franchise has surfaced.
THQ has registered several Metro 2033-related domain names, hinting that something called "Metro 2033: Last Light" is in development. The listings--spotted by Superannuation--include lastlightgame.com, metro2033lastlight.com, and metrolastlight.com.
While the domain name listings certainly might pertain to a new name for the sequel, THQ has a history of supporting its games with transmedia offerings. Last Light could also be the name of a non-video game endeavor related to the Metro 2033 sequel.
As for the original game, Metro 2033 was based on Russian author Dmitry Glukhovsky's 2002 novel of the same name. The title depicts a near-future Earth where human civilization was obliterated by an apocalyptic tragedy in 2013. With the planet's surface now an inhospitable wasteland, humanity's few survivors have taken shelter in Moscow's labyrinthine underground subway system.

This is what has happened to FPS! http://www.digitalbattle.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/11/BITmX.jpg
If this if a second game I really hope they beef up the gun power this time around, always sucked have the monsters take a whole clip like it was nothing.
@VetAmrNasser Metro 2033 didnt need high system requirements, you could play the game on lower settings just fine with older hardware and it still looked just as good if not better than the 360 version. However if you have decent hardware to max it it looks amazing. Having the option to increase graphical fidelity is not a bad thing. Anyway this is good news im looking forward to another Metro game.
metro was such a good game but underrated i hope this new game is good..the series has so much potential
This is wonderful news, Metro 2033 was the Game that brought Story and Atmosphere back to the realm of gaming, in a World rife with mediocrity and simplicity to appeal to a larger audience for maximum sales a Game like Metro really shines all the brighter, Flaws and all.
i really enjoyed Metro 2033, although quite difficult at times, it really was a great game, shame it didnt recieve the acclaim it deserved. Will definately be keeping my eye on this.
I hope they just give it some thought, I like Metro 2033, quite a tough and long game for once(FPS games are getting shorter and easier every day sadly =/). And the graphics, music and overall atmosphere is great. There's two endings to the first game. I had the one where *SPOILER ALERT* I had to get away from the Alien/Mutant and then detonate something, this is suppose to be the bad ending but I wonder it'll effect how the next game's story etc.
I bought a new graphics card just for Metro 2033, and I wasn't disappointed. I'll definately pick up the sequel, if it comes out. It was a great single player FPS. I hope they raise the bar again with the environment graphics because there were a few sections in Metro 2033 that looked almost real.
the graphics are amazing on the pc (Still don't understand why metro didn't win the best graphic award ), did play a little but i do prefer stalker , i will probably buy the next one , it had some realistic aspects that made the game hard even on normal and not much ammo to be found, but hell it made you plan your ammo, your approach and it made you get more into the game (and this is after 3 hours of gameplay)
I can't imagine why they wouldn't. Strong story, strong developer, both might have their problems but nothing that keeps the result from greatness.
Metro 2033 had it's share of kinks, sure, but getting past that it was such a great game! It had amazing atmosphere. I pride myself on not jumping during those cliche jump moments so common in horror movies, but on two separate occasions I jumped while playing this game. It's a really really good game and I'm glad to hear they're releasing a sequel.
People who actually stuck with Metro: 2033 for more than a few hours, who weren't immediately put off by the slightly underwhelming HUD navigation and ammo variety explanation, all found that they were actually playing an amazing game, not to mention possibly the best looking game in the world right now.
I keep seeing CONSTANT reminders I need to play the first game. I blame all the amazing gaming already in the backlog, but Metro 2033... your time is coming.
Metro 2033 is an amazing game. The book is even better and more detailed. Totally recomend everyone!
Metro 2033 is an amazing game..i still play it from time to time..never finished it :( i recommend it to everyone!!
The game glitched me into an unwinnable and corrupted save, and I didn't like it that much in the first place, so I can't recommend it, but the atmosphere is very unique compared to other shooters. The book is great. You always hear about survivors hiding in the subway system, but no one mentions all of the crazy supernatural stuff that happens in the book and the game. After reading the book, I kind of wish I finished the game. Seeing the weirdness of the Kremlin brought to life in the game would have been so cool.
