Wait, why are they working with xbox 720? that's a bit annoying, seeing as all they gave ps3 was haze then went. Come on timesplitters 4 for ps3 exclusive!
Crytek development source reportedly indicates studio prepping FPS series for Microsoft's DirectX 11-enabled next-gen console.

What we heard: Nintendo discharged the opening salvo in the next-generation console wars last week, taking the lid off of the Wii U and its tablet controller. As eyes now turn to see how Microsoft and Sony will respond, recent rumors suggest a reveal for the next Xbox will come within the next year.
VideoGamer.com is reporting today that Microsoft will "likely" announce the Xbox 360's successor at the 2012 Electronic Entertainment Expo, which is scheduled to return to LA from June 5-7. The information reportedly comes by way of a high-ranking industry source at Crytek, who also said that the new Xbox will feature DirectX 11 integration. Core components of this technology include tessellation, multithreaded rendering, and compute shaders.
The development source is reportedly well abreast of Microsoft's development plans due to Crytek's intention to ship TimeSplitters 4 for the new console. The Crytek developer said that the game will have a heavy emphasis on "the series' branching paths and exploratory nature," and it will also feature sandbox-style gameplay. TimeSplitters 4 is already up and running using the studio's proprietary CryEngine 3, the source noted.
The TimeSplitters IP has been at Crytek since 2009, when the German developer purchased franchise creator Free Radical and all its assets after that studio folded. Free Radical--now known as Crytek UK--had been at work on TimeSplitters 4 since 2007, when it announced the game for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and Wii.
The official story: Microsoft had not responded to GameSpot's request for comment as of press time. Crytek declined to comment on the matter.
Bogus or not bogus: Not enough to say. The days of the five-year console cycle are clearly over, and Microsoft has momentum with the Xbox 360 into its sixth year of availability. As such, the publisher probably isn't keen on instigating a new generation of hardware.
It's also worth noting that these types of rumors are anything but reliable. After all, just last month, Develop's "senior, trusted, well-placed source" said that the Xbox 360 successor would "likely" be on hand at E3 2011.
Serious doubt we'll see any more next gen consoles for a while, PS3 is fine, XBox 360 is fine, now it's Nintendo that needs to step up it's game.
@UltimateRAGEX Timesplitters started on the Playstation first as an exclusive (Timesplitters), then Timesplitters 2 was released as a multiplatform game.
I'll wait for the last console. Hate when companies rush a product to beat the competition. The next-gen console that releases last is usually the most durable. Like the first-gen Xbox and the PS3.
@jeffbordonaro pretty much is not good enough. Timesplitters is different from game to game...that guy shouldnt be so cocky. Timesplitters 4 will be available on xbox, ps, pc and if nintendo make a good enough console that as well.
timeplitters=awesome. It wont be a microsoft exclusive, the crytek team lurves sony but if it comes out on xbox i'll get it unless by some miracle sony creates a new better, faster psn!
If TS4 doesn't have the same aiming that TS1,2,3, Perfect Dark and Goldeneye had, then console shooters are dead to me.
I'm very skeptical that Microsoft would even unveil their next console. As the GS article says, the Xbox 360 has the best sales out of all the systems in 2011 this year (despite the abysmal sales in Japan) and Microsoft lost less money than Sony, they still need to recoup the losses they had with the Xbox 360 and Kinect is the way they can do that. I'd say a 2013 E3 reveal and 2014 release date at the earliest. However I think Microsoft would be better served to release the new console in 2016 when technology has advanced and costs have come down enough to warrant a new console.
@UltimateRAGEX Seriously?! I have been living a lie.. A sheltered little life quite clearly. You've opened my eyes!
@warhawk-geeby Must of been down the crapper from the start then, seeing as Timesplitters has been on Xbox from the start...
TimeSplitters on Microsoft's console? I feel like shooting myself.. That's that game down the crapper then.
Well, if they actually announce a new console at E3 2012, then it will probably be launched at 2013 I'm guessing. What will they call it? My guess is Xbox720, the obvious name. Anyways , it's kinda good that the nest generation consoles won't be launched at the same time. My Plan Get a Wii U by 2012 , probably during the holidays Save up some money Get the "Xbox720" during the year it's launched That's enough I guess, because PS4 will probably be launched at the same time, so I'll waste my money if I get them both
@Vodoo: I agree 100%, but I think what would be cooler is a hard drive or a cloud option. How cool would it be to go to your buddy's house and log in without having to lug a hard drive/memory card/flash drive? Of course, that would require an internet connection, but how many consoles aren't connected now?
Yeah I reckon MS will announce a new console & more than likely it'll be E3 next year with a release due for Christmas 2013. Or they'll delay an announcement & release by maybe one more year. Even though Sony insist on a ten year plan I think they'll release a PS4 within the same time frame, although they'll probably still offer strong support for the PS3 for a couple of years after the release of the PS4...2-3 years before we'll see either a next gen xbox or playstation...I think that sounds perfect.
The first Xbox had it right... Include a hard drive in every system, but the PS2 blew Xbox away with sales. So the next gen Microsoft copied Sony and decided that a hard drive wasn't necessary to win the generation sales... BIG MISTAKE! Sony saw the first Xbox's hdd and realized it was a great idea and made one in every PS3. Now Microsoft realized that no hdd was dumb and killed off their arcade model. So hopefully both systems will put hdd's in every system next-gen. And hopefully they'll put in big enough drives that you don't need to keep upgrading. And if you do need to upgrade, hopefully they don't use proprietary drives that cost a fortune.
Hopefully Microsoft gets it right and they don't have mass console breakdowns. Has there ever been such a bad release of a console... ever??? Hopefully there isn't a repeat.
i was going to buy the new xbox 360 but it look im going to have to wait my old xbox 360 elite is going to die soon i can feel it i need a new console and fast................ @XAF1 Agreed.................just the part that xbox is better than sony
All I can say is, "Microsoft please take your time and get it right." I've tried owning three consoles at once after Sega died out of the console market and to be honest it's not worth it. Nintendo has been a constant disappointment---buying the Wii was a waste. I'm not sure what to make out of Sony and to be honest, the 360 is the only thing that reminds me of what a Sega console could have been like. I'm looking forward to the next surprise.
I was disappointed Microsoft didn't announce a new console at E3, but going by this kind of buzzing in the industry, including John Carmack's comments about next gen consoles, it sounds very possible. My opinion differs greatly from young students with zero income and 20-something bums who live in their mom's basments. I think current gen is getting very long in the tooth and I can't help but love new tech. I'm looking forward to being blown away by a new Sony or Microsoft console again. 2012 will not be too soon for me at all. :)
ten year life spans for systems....sure buddy now everyone scared about an up to date console not superior by any means..so we only get to enjoy games like bf 3 and mw3 for a couple of years and halo 4 5 6 what is going on this is outrageous with the DLC out cry now they wanna make ps4 xbox 720 when will people realize it aint about graphics 3D or HD its about games like FF7 that define gaming...F******* corporations
Now this is a game i've been calling for about 3 years now! I'm so glad the franchise wasn't left to die. TimeSplitters 4 cannot come soon enough in an era flooded with tired military shooters, shooting gun wielding monkeys and nutjobs is more than appealing
@y2kern actually i hope they do use more than 1 gpu but i am not sure if it is possible to have 2 gpus on one chip since they couldn't do it in the high end gpus like the HD6990 or the GTX590 so that is why i said the price might get too high assuming they have to use more than one chip for the gpu also putting everything on one chip might cause some memory bottleneck...
"It's also worth noting that these types of rumors are anything but reliable. After all, just last month, Develop's "senior, trusted, well-placed source" said that the Xbox 360 successor would "likely" be on hand at E3 2011." Perhaps they were waiting to see how nintendo played their cards before they showed their hand and decided to wait. Either way I'm glad I won't have to be dropping another chunk of money for a new system soon.
@cjf187x western europe is actually the largest market. The main reason for the prices is about exchange rates not market size.
I think all this will depend on the success of kinect. If microosft can milk it longer they'll hold this off. Kinects success will also shape the next console. If Kinect sales pick up over the next 12 months expect something similar for the next gen probably around 2013. Nothing destroys sales of the current system like unveiling a new console, even if the replacement isn't due for another 2 years. Microsoft seem focused on injecting extra life in 360 via Kinect right now. Even if it is at the expense of the core gamers who all bought a 360.
i think we get an overall reveal from microsoft for its next-gen console in E3 2013 and a full one in E3 2014 and it will be released in 2014.there are a lot of big games coming out next year and microsoft is focusing heavilly on 360 kinect games and it's selling really well at the time(both the console and the kinect) so microsoft won't want to tarnish this great momentum. the recent announcement from avalanche studios for their next-gen game also hints at microsoft's next gen-console to be likely released sometime in 2014.
@couly Who really cares that the PC may have moved onto DX12 ? I certainly don?t and I don?t think most people here do either. Go peddle it where someone might care ? eh, maybe somewhere were people actually game on their PC?s.
Other than Halo:Combat Evolved can we say this is the most epic launch title ever??? I may be wrong, but these are the 2 best I remember.
