Grand Theft Auto: Liberty City Stories makes it five weeks at the top, followed by THQ's Cars, which jumps 14 places to number two.
Take-Two Interactive's Grand Theft Auto: Liberty City Stories is still the game to beat on the UK all-format chart this week, as it enjoys its fifth week in a row at the top. Most of the same titles remained in the top 10 this week, making the chart look incredibly similar to last week's. The most notable change was THQ's Cars, which jumped a massive 14 places from last week's 16 to this week's number two.
As predicted last week, the jump in the chart for Cars, based on Pixar's film of the same name, coincides with promotional activity around the movie's July 28 release. The game's success may also be due to the start of the school holidays in the UK, with the handheld formats (PlayStation Portable/Nintendo DS/Game Boy Advance) being the major contributor to Cars' sales, according to the chart's compiler Chart Track.
The top 10 saw no other new entries this week, with Sierra's Miami Vice: The Game and Shin Megami Tensei: Digital Devil Saga both failing to even reach the top 40. The highest new entry was actually a reentry on the chart, as Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion made an appearance at number 33.
Nintendo had two nonmovers in the top 10, with New Super Mario Bros. at number three and Dr. Kawashima's Brain Training at number six. Pro Evolution Soccer 5 and 2006 FIFA World Cup both continued their decline, while the two Pirates of the Caribbean games plundered the middle of the chart at numbers four and five. Elsewhere, both Prey and Over the Hedge dropped five places this week, sitting at numbers seven and 10, respectively.
July 28 sees a number of high-profile releases that could make an impact on next week's chart. Civilization IV: Warlords is hitting the PC, and PSP games Field Commander and Juiced Eliminator arrive in the UK.

Why all the outcry at the UK being filled with casual gamers? Casual gamers are better than no gamers after all.
your right. but the reason for the high sales of fifa sreet and crap gta games is due to a problem called chavs in our country look the work CHAV up in ur dictionary ,.urban dictionary gives a good explanation and so does wiki you would uderstand if you lived in england i can bet you every chav in england has a ps2
Oh, and the person that said the Brits love the PS2 and the guy that said British people will buy anything. You are both correct, this is a nation of sheep and the PS3 will dominate here in the UK cause once again, it will be the "cool" machine to own. The sheep in this country wont understand the Wii and well, look how well the 360 is doing. No offense to the Brits on this board, you guys are cool, I'm talking about the general public that piss me off in GAME buying FIFA street or some toss.
Like Havoc said, only one 360 game in the charts is sad. The 360 is losing to this generation before the next generation has even started. Just like the Dreamcast, competed with PS1 and n64 and flopped before PS2 and Gamecube came out. Releasing the 360 this early was a bad move I think. Sure you get to sell a few before the real war begins but then the games on the current gen are better so what's the point? Maybe by christmas the 360 will have a must own game or 2, at the moment it's pointless if you own a half decent pc.
Cars, Over the Hedge, Pirates of the Carribean are poor games that sell for their name sake movies. New Super Mario and Prey probably deserve their ranks. Two football games in there is no suprise. Brainage, suprising didn't think people would think to buy it without knowing much about it, i suppose it appeals to a wider audience then 12-20 year old guys.
wow, only 1 360 game on the list? thats sad, with the wii and PS3 coming in 4 months 360 is gonna stuggle if it doesnt improve on its release schedule............this same problem killed the dreamcast and gamecube's last few years since the original xbox only lasted 3 and a half years i expect 360 to last about the same........what a shame
where is freaking animal crossing, chavs killing other platforms, yep my country is the country of casuals, if u need hardcore gamers go Germany or France where Ninteno is domenating.
Kinda expected really, everyone loves GTA over here, and Cars, well kinda expected due to holidays, branding etc. At least it seems most parents are probably not buying GTA for their kids, but hey, there is always at least one. It is all about branding, like GTA games are expected to be top quality so people will buy them regardless, Cars is a Pixar film, and Pixar are known for top quality films. Much in the same way that the US chart is dominated this week by NCAA Football, and well, I guess American Football is just a really popular sport in the US for some reason, right?
Cars Come On Cars The Graphics Are Worse Than Ps1 And Their Paying 30 Quid Come On. There Are Way Better Games The 6 Year Old Burnout 1 Is Better Than That And Even The God Knows How Many Years Old Need For Speed 1 Is Better (And Way Cheaper). Any Game You Can Name Is Better Or At Least Has Better Graphics Than Cars.
I'm A Brit And Can't Believe The Xbox Didn't Even Make It In The Chart And That The 360 Didn't Even Make It In The Chart. But That Should Change In September When Some Of The Best 360 Games Come Out. You Watch That Top Spot.
Wow that Cars game is really popular all around the world... wonder if I should get it for my nephew.
Wow, it's so sad to see how Sony dominated the UK is. They're so f***ing casual it's sad. I wish they would stop playing Sony crap and see the true gems that this world has that the UK chooses to ignore.
The US had one movie based game at #10, The UK has Cars at # 2, Pirates Of The Caribbian: Dead Man's Chest at #5 and Pirates Of The Carribian: Jack Sparrow at #4. PS2 is also dominating the charts. Is UK like the counrtry of casuals.
Ill give Gamespot its first A+ on showing actual sales charts and not BS popular charts. Anyone can press a survey button. Real numbers is real news. Good job gamespot. Now all you need in the Japan charts. And you have all 3 major ones. I think these should be added to the front page list of charts. You would be amazed at how many people look for these and cant find them. Magic Box has some. But if Gamespot had a full list, im sure their hit counter would go up big time.
Global Nexus, just because the PS2 has titles at the top doesnt mean that its the most popular. It just means that the there arent games out for the other platforms. Oh and theres also another breed of humans that only buy cheap cash in games by EA....there called chavs.
chavs.... thats the reason. also GameSpot NEVER EVER LISTS THOSE MULTI-PLATFORM RELEASES AS MULTI-PLATFORM... end result... deceptive figures..! Cars, Pirates, Pro Evo, FIFA are mutiplat releases so labelling them Ps2 or X360 is just inaccurate, misleading and wrong.
It looks like the UK loves their Jack Sparrow, eh? The PS2 dominates, as is usual for the UK, with the DS coming in in second place with two games on the chart. The Xbox 360 and PSP tie for third, each with one game in the top ten. Nothing exciting this week, really.
that gta game isnt even all that good. i wonder what will happen when saints row is unleashed upon them. the game fixes everything GTA did wrong
luigigreen, the UK isn't a continent but a collection of 4 countries! Four of 'em! Altho' darn tootin' we should be called a continent! Can't say I contributed much to this weeks charts. Interesting list tho'. For a countrinent (=P) of 70 million +, our chart is pretty hectic. I say go us.
Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest for the PSP that cool to see up there. Not the best game but it is fun.Plus GTA still going strong.
crazy. cars is a game that I will see dozens of on the used games rack for months at a time collecting dust.
