Just goes to show you that people prefer Donkey Kong Country over those Donkey Kong games made by Paon.
US Wii sales hit 35 million, games hit sales milestones
New Super Mario Bros. Wii sells 8 million domestically, Donkey Kong Country Returns sells 2 million; New Super Mario Bros. DS sells 9 million.
In January, Nintendo released worldwide sales figures for many of its top-selling titles. As of the end of December, Super Mario Galaxy 2 had sold 6.15 million units internationally, while Donkey Kong Country Returns moved 4.21 million units. New Super Mario Bros. Wii sold 21.28 million units, while New Super Mario Bros. for the DS had sold 26.21 million copies. Together, Pokemon HeartGold and SoulSilver had sold 11.72 million units.
Today, following NPD's report of February game sales, Nintendo announced some US-specific sales figures for many of its games--and its current-generation console. February's 454,000 Wiis sold brought the console's total US installed base to 35 million--the fastest any console has reached that mark, according to Nintendo. As of December 31, 2010, nearly 85 million Wiis had been sold worldwide.
Moving on to games, 2 million copies of Donkey Kong Country Returns have been sold in the US following its November 2010 launch in the territory. More than 8 million copies of the platformer New Super Mario Bros. Wii have been sold since its stateside launch in November 2009, along with 9 million copies of New Super Mario Bros. for the DS, which went on sale in May 2006. Not including Pokemon HeartGold, Pokemon SoulSilver has sold more than 2 million units as of February.
