@nheu In Japan the PSP is the best selling game system at the moment. But in Japan they actually respect developers and buy games for their PSPs. Haven't you notice how so many Japanese developers are now moving their franchises to the PSP? Because the large user base and small development budget result in massive profits. I can see why Sega is still in business with smart choices like Valkyria 2.
Sega bringing last year's well-received turn-based tactical RPG franchise to Sony's handheld next summer.
Though it may not have been the most high-profile of releases, Sega's tactical role-playing game Valkyria Chronicles turned out to be one of the top-rated games released for Sony's PlayStation 3 in 2008. Today, Sega announced plans to reprise that effort on the PSP, saying Valkyria Chronicles 2 will be available for Sony's portable during the summer of 2010.
Valkyria Chronicles 2 will pick up two years after the events of the original game, which saw the fictional country of Gallia sandwiched between two warring superpowers. The sequel will follow a group of raw Gallian Military Academy cadets, who are caught up in a civil war after the Gallian Revolutionary Army attempts a coup on the standing government.
Sega plans to scale down the same engine that powered the original Valkyria Chronicles on the PS3 for use on the PSP. As such, the sequel will maintain the original's distinctive illustrated look, offering 20 all-new environments and "hundreds" of missions to complete. Sega will also be tinkering with the game's turn-based battle system, giving players the ability to navigate the environment in real-time during battles.
sega has done it again, a great game that deserved a sequel on the ps3 where it would be able to shine brighter and actually sell and what do they do? they go ahead and throw it onto the psp...where most people will just download it and play it for free on their hacked psp...nice going sega...you fail once again, how you are still in business is beyond me.
C'mon Sega. This game deserves a sequel that ISN'T on a portable. It won't even have the original characters. I haven't even played it and I'm disappointed.
Oooh awesome!! I luuuurve the original on ps3! Pity it didn't sell as well as it should have. Its a shame its on the PSP, i would rather see those gorgeous unique graphics and funness on my PS3 but beggars cant be choosers =), im just stoked there is a sequel at all!
I bought a PSP when Crisis Core was released but I've hardly played it. I think the only PSP game I've bothered with was God of War CoO. There's lots of good games coming out for the PSP now so I'm glad I didn't sell it. I got Motorstorm Arctic Edge today and it's really good. I'll obviously be getting VC2 when it's released. FFVII is good to play on PSP too.
Follow up a great game with a dumbed down sequal to a system nobody wants to buy. I hate you Sega. I want to barbeque sonic the hedgehog and wash him down with a cooool budweiser.
Why make sequels for different systems?!?!?!?! I mean really, isn't it enought that we bought the PS3 :S
Aww. VC was a great game, but I don't really want to play it on the PSP. It's so beatiful on the PS3, I don't really see how it would compare. :(
I loved VC and I'm looking forward to this, but am I alone in wishing they'd set it somewhere else? Poor old Gallia gets quite enough grief in the first game, I'm going to feel a bit bad about ruining Welkin & co's retirement. And btw, if you like strategic RPGs and didn't get VC1, shame upon you. SHAME, I say!
Everyone's complaining about it going to the PSP, but what can you do? Not many people bought the original. If cats want more role-playing games on the PS3, they need to buy the ones that get released. I'm just glad to get more VC. The original was a real surprise and easily Sega's best work this generation.
Great! I missed V Chronicles on PS3 - but if this good I will probably pick it up. I enjoyed Advance Wars on Game Boy Advance...Turn Based Strategy War Games can work really well on handhelds....
I hope it's also going to be released on an UMD disk or playable through the PSP 1000-3000 series. Anyone got any ideas what will happen when PSP go will comes out. Also wondering if that is the release date for NA.
i was under the impression months ago that this was coming to the ps3. Why the PSP?! PSP owners didn't buy the first one, sure, give em the second, but at least make it for the ps3 as well. This is truly one of the best games on the ps3 platform, and for them to remove it for the PSP makes absolutely no sense. They won't get as many sales on the PSP, that is for sure. Come on Sega, are you forgetting the ps3 owners that bought the first one?...
I thought Valkyria Chronicles did horrible in US markets and now they are making a sequel for a system that kind of fallen of the band wagon. If Dissidia only did 100k for the system, I can't see this game doing any better. Come on Sega you have the engine already made, make it for the PS3.
Damn I'm sick of the trend of the top RPGs like the new Dragon Quest and Valkyria Chronicles going to the portables. This generation has been almost completely dry of top RPGs for the new consoles, and with announcements like this one and the next KOTOR game being an MMO it looks like it will stay that way.
I'd never heard of VC but both of them look awesome. Problem is I don't have a PSP or PS3 so I can't get either of them right now... I might try to go ahead and get the first one before it gets too hard to find though.
Aww, I loved the PS3 game and I don`t want a PSP, maybe the PS3 will get a copy of this later on, perhaps as a downloadable game through the PSN.
If the battle mechanics are improved this would be one awesome addition to the PSP library. 2010 may turn out to be a great year for gamers also.
VC was such a ridiculously good game that I'm surprised it remained a niche game. Especially considering how easily accessible the game was.
I was looking around to buy VC on PS3, but they stopped manufacturing it! They only place u can buy it is online like ebay. And they sell for a lot! Bastards...
i own both a ps3 and psp and i'm happier that it is on the psp then ps3, at least with the psp i could play it at work
those who keeps complaining why theres no ps3 release give it a rest, the ps3 has tons of games coming out for it so stop complaining. the psp has had nothing but a few table scraps until now. it nice to see developers starting to develop for psp as well
It looks really good. Portable makes it even better. At least its a fully fledged sequel and game in the series, and not just another "series lite" Both Soul Calibur and Gran Turismo that are missing full single player components. Not even an arcade mode in Soul Calibur. No career mode in Gran Turismo (refer to all reviews out now).
Waaaah!!! I want it on the PS3!!! I miss my man Jane!!! Or... wo-man... Who wouldn't miss a sadistic soldier who can take out half the enemy force all by her pretty little self? Though, if she heard me call her pretty, she'd probably point her flamethrower at me *gulp*. DIE!!! DIE!!! DIE!!!
Have to admit I'm disappointed its not returning to the PS3. Oh well, needed a really good excuse to get a PSP, and I guess this certainly qualifies.
