WCG committee picks titles for '06 event

Xbox 360 sequels replace their predecessors; Halo 2 swapped out for Project Gotham Racing 3.
The World Cyber Games committee today announced the eight games that would serve as the battlegrounds for this year's WCG competition, with only two titles making the cut from last year's batch.
Warcraft III: The Frozen Throne and StarCraft: Brood War will return to October's Grand Final competition in Monza, Italy. They will be joined by a number of new games, albeit largely familiar ones. Half-Life: Counter-Strike 1.6, Warhammer 40,000: Winter Assault, FIFA Soccer '06, Need for Speed Most Wanted, and Dead or Alive 4 all replace the iterations of their respective series that were contested last year, while Halo 2 has dropped from the lineup entirely and was replaced by Project Gotham Racing 3. The Xbox 360 makes its WCG debut with the PGR3 and DOA4 competitions; the six other games are for PC.
The group is also introducing a pair of pan-regional championship events this year. The WCG 2006 Asian Championship will take place during June's PC Show 2006 in Singapore, while the WCG 2006 Pan-American Championship is set for this year's Electronic Gaming Show in Mexico. The returning WCG European Championship will be held at this year's CeBIT event March 9 to 15 in Hanover, Germany.

Its kinda strange that one of the biggest genres (the FPS) only has one game supported. There should be a game like UT or something next to CS. They should drop either Warhammer or NFS for a FPS (dont care which one). The best pro gamers are FPS gamers (Doesnt Fatality play PainKiller)
Why drop Halo 2? Do they know Halo 3 will be used in the tournament next year and just decided to take a break? Or did hardcore PC gamers complain that it's overrated? FPS are popular here in this country but not much abroad. I'm sure there were Korean and Japanese players complaining of american-centric games...I don't know, just a thought.
PDZ should be there! Well mabey not. Its somewhat buggy as is. It is still the best 360 game so far though.
nice set of titles there. Frozen Throne and Starcraft have always been the main show during WCG.
halo 2 taking out is a good thing. halo 2 take no skill at all. halo 1 take more skill here a link http://media.putfile.com/h2in .
....Quake 4 is being HEAVILY played in competition already, just look it up. WC3, SC and CS 1.6 will be played in competition forever, and are ALWAYS the most competitive and popular out of those games.
This is horrible because Halo 2 is the most played game for any console and not a lot of people play Warhammer 40k.
