What we heard: On Tuesday, the Web lit up with news of an inflatable horse-riding peripheral for the Wii. Today comes word that Nintendo may not be limiting its simulated conveyance to the equestrian realm. NeoGAF user "Kswiston" has posted a purported market-research presentation slide that shows what appears to be a bicycle-peripheral-based Wii game.
According to the slide, the unnamed $89.99 single- and multiplayer title will let players "pedal their way to fitness!" Accompanied by pictures of a round white pedal controller with three resistance levels (pictured top), it will have more than 30 maps based on actual locations. Accompanying images show a variety of locales on all continents except Africa and Antarctica, including Monaco, Paris, and the Grand Canyon. A Hawaiian level is also shown.
The Wii biking game will also feature more than 60 activities, with road races, downhill, dog-walking, and pedal-powered paragliding on display. Though the cardiovascular-intensive game will track calories burned with a Wii Fit-like interface, one of the activities its simulates is a high-fat barbecue, with players cranking the pedals to simulate turning a spit roast.
Speaking of Wii Fit, Kswiston also posted a slide that appears to detail Wii Fit Plus, the sequel to NPD's best-selling non-PC game of 2009 from January to June. Though not named specifically, the title is described as "a new version game of Wii Fit" (sic) and will feature "original Wii Fit activities"--something no non-Wii Fit game could do. These activities can be combined with just six new training and yoga exercises into workout playlists like EA Sports Active, or players can choose from preset 20-, 30-, or 40-minute workout routines. The game will also feature workouts targeted at certain parts of the body, including abs and arms, as well as stress reduction techniques.
Besides the workouts, the slide promises Wii Fit Plus will sport 15 new balance board minigames, including skateboarding, "rhythm kung fu," and a series of flapping games involving a chicken suit. The game will let players weigh their dogs or cats directly--versus subtracting the weight in the original Wii Fit--and, judging by an image, will allow players to create Miis for their pets. The game will apparently cost $29.99 on its own or $99.99 when bundled with the Wii Balance Board.
Finally, Kswiston said there was a third game in the market-research presentation, which featured resistance bands a la EA Sports Active, as well as video of the pedal device in action.
The official story: Nintendo reps declined to comment on the slides.
Bogus or not bogus?: Looking not bogus. The pictures look at little complex to be mere forgeries, and the descriptions carry a very Nintendan tone. Adding credibility are the Miyamoto-esque flourishes like the barbecue simulator and chicken suit, as well as the fact that the Wii Fit Plus slide shows a senior citizen--reportedly one of its target groups.
Sounds like fitness combined with fun. Finally our legs can move around too. Vive le Tour de France! Good idea, Nintendo! And why not add another device that measures where we step our feet, so we can play sports games like Grand Slam and move in any direction!
Couldnt they just come up with an attachement to say a real bike like something that attaches to the pedals, put it on a trainer and you golden... Or they should group with Trek and make a virtual mountain bike that would sweet.
WTF ???? thats the last wii toy any one actually wants time to get serious nintendo
i just pre ordered my Wii Life accessory pack!! it includes- -$50 Wiibucks (each Buck is valued at 2 dollars each) -Wii Dishwasher -Wii Wii (a add on wii to connect to your wii so you can have a use a Wii in Wii enable games.) -Wii paperweight -Wii diapers. -Wii Chocolate milk (DO NOT DRINK) -Wii Blender -Wii Tires
pretty soon we will have the Wii Olympics with equestrian on that horse riding garbage, play baseball with a bat attachment, bike with this stupid thing for a triathlon along with a wii treadmill and on and on they go...
geez still nobody doing the wii frisbee i tell ya it would sell XD
tbh this type of news should be on casualgamer.com i come on gamespot to find out about news relating to games, not childrens toys.
I am pretty sure that both Microsoft and Sony is watching this closely. They did laugh every time nintendo reveal a new gimmicks but sell through the roof. I don't think they will make that mistakes again, besides Wii fit have a 2 billion revenue even Microsoft would't laugh on that. Like it or not Sony's fit and M$ fit is cumming!! http://digg.com/nintendo/Wii_Fit_Sales_Top_20m_Worldwide_Revenue_Nearing_2_billion
i wouldnt be surprised if its not bogus, heck they even recently patented a football for christ's sake, a freakin football!! im startin to like sony and microsoft's motion control ideas more and more now.. i mean, there are NO peripherals for either, everything is virtual (Nintendo take note) meaning a lot less of my hard earned cash, and even better precision in terms of control right outta the box instead of an attachement... sorry ninty but in terms of tech, u got beat, not so much in the success department tho sadly
dude, the crazy thing is that for ppl like us that saw Nintendo's beginnings this might look really stupid yet awkward..but the new generations love this crap...hell I have a friend who's parents are in their 60's and they own a wii with lots of games (many very childish) so I don't know...this might get very good sales here in the US
Let's take a step back here. How many periphs has Ninty actually released. The wheel, the zapper, and the balance board, motion plus, and wii speak. How many of those have sucked? Not one, aside from Wii speak being under utilised they have all been sucessful and somewhat engaging. What we have to remember is these are ideas, just that, ideas. In order to protect ideas, even bad ones, patents and other things must be filed, focus groups must be held. I doubt this ever sees the light of day, but if it does, it will probably have a compelling piece of software attached to it. That is how Nintendo rolls.
Didn't nintendo learn its lesson from Rob the robot or the Power glove during the 80's?
After Nintendo comes out with all the peripherals it seems like they are trying to give Chuck Norris' home gym a run for its money. God forbid that I want to use my Wii for video games.
mario, zelda, and metroid RIP looks like ur new replacement is a weight scale, a heart sensor thing that attaches to god knows where, and now a pedal bike lmao i luved u nintendo but things have deffinately changed, and not for the better it seems
omg u got to be kidding me nintendo, wat are u turning the wii into, a freakin living room gym!? jeezus this is ridiculous... heck while ur at it, why not make a treadmill peripheral or add attachable weights to the controller, the possibilities are endless nintendo, wat the heck are u waitin for? lol give me a break, im gunna go play a REAL game on my xbox
Nintendo... I give up... Seriously, why would I buy this s*** if I can instead buy a REAL bike and ride around with REAL friends...
is this really necessary? this makes me want to trade in my wii for a 360 elite so bad!
The pricing doesn't make sense. Surely I'm not the only one to notice that the proposed pricing scheme would mean that a Balance Board would retail for $70 or more on it's own.
A "Bike" peripheral would be nice... especially for something different, and to be able to work out any time would be icing on the cake... bring it on! That being said the wii "attachments are getting waaayyy out of hand. I do not want to fill my living room with rock band (yeah i know not "wii exclusive"), wii fit, a bike, a cross bow, or (theoretically) a handgun attachment, bike and a horse. It is a little bit ridiculous! ESPECIALLY with 4 players involved!
I'm happy I wasn't the only one that read just the title of the article and heard it scream "gimmick". It really makes me happy I was converted to the dark side of Microsoft, because for all the problems the 360 has, at least I'm not riding my inflatable horsie in the living room.
uhhh...I'm going to go out on a limb here and say this is looking to be a rather sorry gimmick. I still support Wii Fit Plus but this "Wiibike" has even me going "wtf?" Remember though this only a RUMOR.
LMFAOOOOOOOO!!! WHAT THE HELL ARE NINTENDO DOING??? Instead of creating more good games to help boost sales, they come up with some insanely random idea! "LETS MAKE A BIKE AND A HORSE TO RIDE ON"??? Seriously???... wake the hell up Nintendo and come up with something ALOT better!!!
first motion sensing crap, now a bike? come on nintendo , revert back to your old ways!
OMG....RRRRRR THE WII SHOULD DIEEEE!!!
a bike????? they might be over doing it......
I will not be buying any Nintendo crap. I think that I buy about 1 game a year for my Wii which is terrible. I bought about 10 in the first year. I buy about 30-50 360 games and about 10 PS3 games. Wii is Wii-k
Meh, you won't see me buying this crap, but as long as NSMB Wii, SMG2, the new LOZ, and Pikmin 3 come out on time, Nintendo has me covered.
sources close to me have given me info that you can choose to believe or not believe on a new peripheral for the Wii. the code name is "Everest" supposedly it's a rock climbing machine, much like you see at fairs, that you plug into your Wii and TV. It's about 6 feet wide and 14 feet tall, so 2 players can climb at the same time. From what I understand it will retail next Q2 for around $3,500.
Yeah..Nintendo is going a bit too far. The freakin games industry is really going downhill. I have a Wii and I love it for what it is, but its becoming more and more of a gimmick system as opposed to a gaming machine. I am very tired of the all the mini game titles (most of which arent even good), and now there focus on is turning to exercise games. I think that just because it makes money doenst make it worth the money. The whole industry is changing and not for the better. I think Nintendo is playing a major part in this downturn and trust me...the industry is in for bumpy ride if things keep up. Get back to making quality GAMES for the love of god.
i like you Nintendo but you are taking the miccy now
Wow. Get back to gaming.
lol neo gaf trolling gamespot
I wouldn't sell my Wii because of this, just don't buy if you don't like it.
I think Nintendo should just get into the exercise equipment industry... give the Bowflex a run for its money
Noooo, No more Nintendo, make it stop!
Nintendo WTF are you doing? No wonder im losing interest everyday!
wow another gimmick controller for the wii man wii is just a big gimmick and dumb people give into the gimmick(yes i know i will get 50 thumbs down for this comment lol)
@NewPorkCity thats not what im saying at all. Miyamoto had 4 specific wii__ titles in HIS mind that he wanted released. In no way were those the ONLY wii__ titles to ever be released. They were the original four and the ones he himself thought up.
Is anyone on here a video game fan? WTF would you convince people not to buy a game? That's a&& backwards, IMO
@ coldreboot I hear what you are saying but no-one could have predicted from day one that the Wii would be a milking tool for Nintendo to make the most profit. It only really started happening when Wii Fit and Mario Kart Wii were released with the stupid Wii Wheel and the Balance Board. That's when people realised that we we're only going to see new fad gadgets for the Wii. Day one looked pretty promising - Twilight Princess and Wii Sports? What's not to like? People buy Nintendo consoles for the likes of Zelda, Mario, Metroid and Smash Bros among many other tried-and-tested franchises (I for one of them). I will not give up on Nintendo yet. This article is fake anyway...
Wow. More garbage for the Wii.
All the critics are clearly the minority, believe it or not every supposed gimmick associated with the wii that you criticised before has translated to great success in sales. You can complain, gripe, and moan all you want ... the corporate types at Nintendo don't care lol
If Nintendo just can?t stop doing stupid stuff for they?re console son they will be the Wii open heart surgery kit.
Liek OMG! I want the Wii bike so much. I so liek can't wait for it. But I'm also excited about he new Wii Electric fan and the new Wii motion sensing bunny ears.
@coldreboot I completely agree with you, which is exactly why i am saying that we need to convince people not to buy these games using our knowledge of the industry. We may not succeed but that is no reason to not try. I said it before and i'll say it again. "if the 'casual' gamers keep buying shovelware we are going to get no where"
looks okay, but why do that if you already own a bike
"shows a senior citizen--reportedly one of its target groups." LMFAO
Sounds very interesting. Bike riding is underated in video games. Seriously. Just have to wait and see.
a bike are u serious wii fit plus???????well I sold my wii anyways
if they release wii bike, i will sell my wii. i need no jokes or anything related to jokes in my household. thin ice nintendo, thin ice.
