Wii U Mass Effect 3 will use interactive comic - Report

BioWare has revealed the Wii U version of Mass Effect 3 will use the Dark Horse interactive comic to guide players through the Mass Effect prequels.
BioWare has revealed that the upcoming Wii U version of Mass Effect 3 will use an interactive comic to give players the opportunity to get up to speed on the series' backstory and characters, and carry forward in-game decisions.
In an interview with GotGame, BioWare's Melanie Faulknor told the site that since Wii U owners will not be getting the first two Mass Effect games, a Dark Horse-created interactive comic will guide players through the first two titles and allow them to make story choices that will carry forward when they begin Mass Effect 3. No specific details were provided on how the story branching will work.
During the interview, Faulknor said the Wii U version of Mass Effect 3 will be developed by an external third-party developer with previous Nintendo experience.
Last month, EA revealed that the Wii U version of Mass Effect 3 will come bundled with the Extended Cut DLC; it was also revealed that BioWare is preparing new single-player DLC for the game, most likely centering on Commander Shepard.
The Wii U is due out worldwide this holiday season, but Nintendo has yet to announce a price or a release date for the console. Speculation regarding the platform's release window has ranged from November to December, and Nintendo has promised a "reasonable" price for the console.

if the wii u version is the worst then you might as well put the ps3 mass effect 2 and 3 in the same boat because mass effect is missing on the ps3 the series works best when you take shepard from mass effect 1 all the way to ME3 am i wrong
Who cares. Mass Effect sucks. Three games of pure trash all thanks to a crummy ending. Hope bioware burns in heck.
@Rifqi_Hb Fixed? What was fixed? They added allite info but left just as much unanswered. Don't get me started on the star child. Or how Anderson made it to the tower. Look I'm not saying mass effect wasn't good for like 99% of the time. The ending just left so much unanswered.
@ThePrime091474 Did I enjoy all the games? Yes. Every minute up to the ending. I'm just saying that a bad ending can ruin the ride. Another analogy. Your riding the greatest roller coaster ever and right at the end the breaks slam so hard you bust your teeth on the bar. Did it mean the whole ride stank? No. But it did ruin your memory of the ride.
2 Like @link108 clearly you are refuting your own words "three games of pure trash". The game was made by its developers by their own artistic design. If that's how they wanted it to end, so be it. Mass Effect was an experience - the lore, the characters and their back-story. No game out there made me so emotionally attached than this one. Therefore, ME should not be purely judged by its ending.
@JimmeyBurrows I didn't play all three in a row. Started with one and waited for each new one. However the crummy ending ruined it all. It's like if say in star wars darth vader just said in the return of the Jedi "hey let's just hug it out I'm sorry".
@blue_francis14 @JimmeyBurrows Of course they do. But it's like going out to eat. Your waiter brings you this fantastic appetizer of steak and your like wow this is good. Then for the main course you get two mouth watering lobsters. Then as dessert is coming out under a silver tray, and you smell it's wonderful potential a big hairy biker punches you right in the grapes. Meal ruined.

but when it comes to some, like i who have played all 3 games... i made a female Shepard. so what if in the comic the guy is a male? that would be weird. how are they going to explain the sex change?

1 Like @snxx apart from the joke, it is an interactive comic, meaning that you get to pick your gender, background and decide on some of the previous games main points. =]
so, unless you choose the wrong gender by mistake or want to "headcanon" a transgender shep, you should be fine.
@Spartan_418 Taking from the interactive comic they did for the PS3 version of ME2, no, it won't even have most of the big ones. :(
But as far as choosing your gender goes, it would be dumb if they didn't put the option in. =]
1 Like @senhorb In theory, yes. They haven't said exactly what level of interactivity the comic will have though, apart from the major story decisions.
ME 1 and 2 have over a thousand different story variables that can carry over to ME3, obviously the comic wouldn't include all of them.
3 Like This is going to be one of those impulse buys for people when they get a WiiU. They'll buy the console for whatever first party games come out at launch, but will then buy this or Arkham City because they've heard how great it is but haven't played it because they don't own a PC or a real console.

@LindBergh2007 I expect cautious buyers this time around with a slurry of impulse buyers.Who instead of waiting till after launch to try the Wii U in store before buying. While its seeing better 3rd party support than Wii, we'll just have to wait and see Nintendo can maintain that support.I plan to wait a few months to see what it gets.I can only hope we aren't buried in shitty kids games. hell the wii was mostly kids games not really for casuals or hardcore really

Shame it couldn't be bundled with ME1 and 2 but the interactive comic is a great idea. I wonder how many players started with Mass Effect 2 without much of an idea what happened in the first game.
looks cool and i havent played the first mass effect yet so if i do end up getting a wii u i might get the mass effect 3 version for it......but when will that be?!?!
2 Like @cbb1018 Really, man, go get Mass Effect 1: the shooter crowd prefer the streamlined combat and simple gameplay of Mass Effect 2 and 3 (which are good games on their own), but for the RPG fan, Mass Effect 1 is the best, you should play it.
2 Like @snxx Seriously, they don't trust us with customizing our armor and weapons anymore. I had a good time in 1 getting a new weapon, looking at the story of the manufacturer, etc....
It's sort of like an NPC in Morrowind telling you "I believe it was slightly to the northwest, in a bushy area" then, in Skyrim "lol quick travel + direction indicator"
1 Like @snxx Cannot agree more! ME1 is, by far, the best one. I hate the fact they went more shooter-heavy starting with ME2; if I want to play a sci-fi shooter, I'll go play Halo or Gears of War.
Seems like a good idea, but they will be missing out on the full thing. They will probably need to change the graphics quite a bit...
What about frame rate or improved textures. It should have perfect 30 fps or higher even with texture improvements but I doubt this will happen instead it will be a "spend as little money and effort as possible" port.

@Suikogaiden Um, considering that the wii u will come with the new controller and Nintendo introducing the pro controller, I don't think they will really tack motion controls onto me3. Frankly, I welcome the new controller because it will make it less likely for unnecessary motion controls to be added to games. Btw, if you think of the controller as a gimmick, I would consider it a gimmick that could hold it's own, and is frankly more useful and less distracting than motion control.

@Suikogaiden The same people that brought Wii and are planning on buying Wii U would FAIL at NES games. Games were alot more challenging back then.

I've been playing videogames since "Pong" was considered a console (1st gen) and bought (or received as a gift, when I was little) 16 different consoles since then, and I'm planning to get a Wii U. I wouldn't call myself exactly a person who "don't know shit about video games". And you know why I'm getting a Wii U? Because I LOVE videogames. If you have the money to expend, most consoles in the history will have great games to play.
The 3DO was a failure? You bet! But it had the first Need for Speed (Electronic Arts was a good developer at the time) and Gex. Saturn was a failure? Kinda. But it had Panzer Dragoon Saga, Shinning Force III, Dragon Force... The Dreamcast was a failure? Almost. But it had Shenmue, Jet Set Radio, Space Channel #5. The Wii was a failure? NOT EVEN CLOSE. Granted, nowadays I play a lot more on my gaming PC and Xbox360, but I got to play Muramasa, Trauma Center, No More Heroes, Madworld, the definitive version of Resident Evil 4, Xenoblade Chronicles and much, much more on my Wii. And, I clearly remember, I got it for half the price I would've to pay for an Xbox360 (launch prices: Wii: U$250.00, Xbox360: U$500.00, PS3: U$600.00), it was pretty damn worthy, if you ask me.
Now, if you have to choose one console or another, that's fine, not everyone can afford to have all the next-gen consoles - and, actually, sometimes it may be quite redundant (for instance, if wasn't for Heavy Rain, God of War and bluray movies, my PS3 would still be sealed on it's box - but that's only 'cause I have the 360 and PC, I would use it much more otherwise, it's a fine console), I, for a very long time, wasn't able for have all of them. Still, that's not an excuse to generalize "that console sucks, bro!". A true gamers know how to appreciate the strengths of every platform. A true gamer is interested in the games and know every console will have something to offer. Heck, I may even get myself and OUYA, who know what will come for it?
Be a true gamer, give the Wii U a chance and respect, even if you (now) don't intend to buy one. I have a few reserves about it, but I'm also really curious about what it can do.

2 Like @LindBergh2007 to make ,atters worst some developers are depending on the multiplayer aspect to get by and heavily neglecting the single player mode.As graphically amazing as these games are they keep getting shorter. Lately it feels like very few games are 30 hours long, or lack an amazing story.Hell as popular as COD is even it is feeling the strain

@snxx I visit Gamasutra frequently. The problem being is that most developers currently have little access to new tech. They are speaking on a cry that Mircosoft and Sony get them new development kits for new console hardware(not knowing that Sony has no PS4 and that Mircosoft hasn't yet supplied beta kits for Durango. The gaming market has become TOO expensive,too gimmicky,too stagnated,too stale, and too un original. This is the same thing that happened during 1982-1983 prior to the Spring 1984 Video Game Crash, during those days, the market was over flooded with shovelware and knockoffs of popular franchises. F2P and Digital media is cut cutting, efficient and is cheap and easier to do. The fact of the matter is, is that most console hardware is PC based, if we were to return to from-the-ground up off the shelf computer hardware, games would cost less to produce.

AAA games with face-melting graphics can be nice (lots of them are), but they're exactly one of the reasons why we're getting "more of the same" every year: it's too damn expensive to produce face-melting graphics, meaning AAA games are increasingly risky to make, slowing down innovation to a drag. You want innovation other the graphics alone? A great way to look for it is exactly in the niche, alternative market. Here, take a look at this article at GamaSutra, it's called "AAA games: What lies ahead?" and has a few thought provoking points. IMHO, "what's wrong with gaming today", other than the mentioned "lack for innovation" are far more urgent matters like: rampant DLC, blocking used/borrowed games and oppressive DRM. For starters.
PS: I don't like Minecraft either (I prefer it's "2D version" Terraria), but believe me: it's way, way more than a mini game. Don't dismiss it's relevance just like that.
1 Like @snxx Minecraft is a fan created mini game that PC and Android gamers play for its F2P use. It has absolutely nothing to do with gimmicks or having fun. All those other titles are examples of what's wrong with gaming today. People just want more of the same. No Challenge,No skill. No better technology, no art.

Go play some more, kid. Of course Batman: AA and AC, GTV IV, Dead Space, Portal 2, Alan Wake and God of War are lots of fun, but there's much to than only the ultra-graphics-filled AAA games, "Mr. True Gamer".

If you still love Wii and STILL defend it, your no hardcore gamer. Your someone who just plays games for fun.
