@gamerok123 Nintendo gave us fresh ideas a long time ago. I just think a tablet + controller is not innovating, is mixing existing technologies and hoping it'll turn out good. And besides, why do you people think Sony copied Nintendo? It's because the Move thing? Sony had a patent way before Nintendo considered making Wii, i'm not saying that Nintendo copied it, but in this case, both had normal ideas and thje true innovating was ...*sigh* i'm gonna have to credit "them"... Microsoft, argh. Kinect is the best in motion gaming, but there's no games to it, which is frustrating. You all are aware that Nintendo was the one who pissed Sony into gaming right? They asked for Sony's CD driver to be in N64, and when the project was nearly done they said to Sony "y'know what, you're asking too much of the profit cut, get you CD driver back and stick wherever you like", and Sony did, on Nintendo's highest rival... Sony made the analog stick and controller vibration if i'm not mistaken, so even though i think Sony is a bit agressive towards the consumer, it innovated, and i don't remeber them copying anything up.
~ Small Nitpicks & Clarifications ~
In the late 90's, Nintendo teamed with Sony and Phillips to build a CD-ROM Attachment for the Super Nintendo. Not the n64.
When that partnership broke down, Sony decided to make it's own gaming console, and the First PlayStation was born.
The n64 Rumble Pak came out before Sony's DualShock Controller.
The first Screen-in-a-Controller-for-A-Console was Sega's VMU for Dreamcast.
Sony's PocketStation came out shortly afterward, but you couldn't use it's screen while it was connected to the PlayStation (IIRC) since it plugged into the console's Memory Card Port, and not the controller itself.
A few years later, Nintendo released an adapter that let you use the GameBoyAdvance as a controller, with certain GameGube Games.
@Raxyman @gamerok123 I agree with you to some degree, I just want say some thing:
I think it's a pretty good idea, to make a screen on the controller, as people before me have said, it's easier to micro manage games, like inventory, and so on, and it's easier to make mouse based games on the Wii U, Blizzard could easily port StarCraft 2 on the Wii U. And the biggest part is, you don't need a TV, you can play big scale games without a TV, I think that's a really big deal. If you are a student, and a gamer, but you can't afford a good TV, but you can afford a Wii U, you don't need the TV.
Sony did somewhat copy Nintendo, remember the Power Glove, it was sort of like Wii's predecessor, innovation wise. It didn't work too well, but it was still a completely new thing. And wasn't the N64 first in vibrating controllers? With the rumble pak I mean. I might be false. And Sony made the dual analog sticks, analog sticks were used long before the PS2. Still innovation, though.
I think Sony should stop innovating, since they haven't really innovated much since the PS2, the only things they patent now, are just against the consumer, like advertisements that occasionally play while you are playing a game, and thus completely destroying the immersion. They should just continue making consoles like they made the PS3, or at least, stop making these incredibly aggressive patents towards the consumer. I rather have a console that I can go back to, if the Wii U and the Nextbox fail in their innovations.
@joujou264 @gamerok123
True enough. Like i said, i don't like Sony behaviour toward the customer. Lawsuits, DRM, patents...
The dualshock i'm sure it's Sony's, the vibration i'm not sure, like i said, Sony and Nintendo worked together in N64, both sides may have had the idea.
To me that's pretty much the truth http://www.nerfnow.com/comic/768
It seems we've gotten to a point where somehow competition is being worse to the customer, i think...
So, i have a pretty pessimistic view of those three companies, i don't see them innovating in favor of gaming. My point of view though.
@Raxyman Well, someone is still innovating in favor of gaming, otherwise we would notice the lack of change, and gaming would be a lot less fun if nobody would innovate outside of games. We would be dependent on developers, to make the changes outside of games, good example on why developers should leave innovating outside of games to the Big 3, would be Skate 3, that was the game with the skateboard peripheral, right?
Although I find the comic you linked to, somewhat true, I think we should exclude Microsoft, because all they did with the Kinect, was take the Eyetoy, add another camera, and add a infrared sensor, and there you have it, the Kinect.
I've seen a lot of things that the 3 have copied, but on the most part, the most copied is Nintendo, that's just how I see it, since Sony recently showed that they DO copy Nintendo (PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale, even Sony fans say that it's copy/paste from Nintendo.), I would like to see Sony and Microsoft do their own innovations, there are occasionally some, like the 360 online being pretty innovative, but as I said, I want to see some hardware innovation, that hasn't been done by any of the Big 3 before. Or they could at least upgrade their existing innovations, like MS could put some additional cameras into the Kinect, to make it a bit more precise.
Another thing I would like to say, Sony should stop fucking around with patents, they sometimes do get good ideas, but they never full fill them, so nobody else can full fill them. It's just frustrating to hear that Sony continues on killing off good ideas, and nobody else can do those things.
