Please......why does there have to be a game based off of a hit TV show? They NEVER work, even if the show was awesome.
Activision partnering with ABC on motion-controlled Xbox 360 edition of brutal obstacle course reality show this summer.
For many Kinect games, the ability to sidestep self-consciousness is one of the hardest parts to master. However, making a fool of oneself is the primary draw for Activision's latest Kinect title, as the publisher announced today that it has teamed with ABC to bring the face-plant-prone reality show Wipeout to the Xbox 360 this summer.
Wipeout in the Zone mimics the absurd obstacle courses of its TV inspiration, and players will be challenged with working their way through the show's challenges by running, ducking, and dodging. Of course, failure is an inevitable and frequent outcome, and players will be treated to visuals of their inglorious digital destruction.
Players will be challenged by more than 30 obstacles, which can be undertaken in one shot or as individual events. Obstacles explicitly called out today include Big Balls and the Smack Wall Sweeper. The game will also include audio commentary from the show's hosts: John Anderson, John Henson, and Jill Wagner.
Wipeout in the Zone won't be the first gaming installment in ABC's reality show series. Last year, Activision and ABC delivered Wipeout: The Game for the Wii and DS.
i think alot of people are going to misread the title of this news story thinking that it's studio liverpool's wipeout and not some cheesy reality show. it's a good thing i actually read the article before i started telling everyone about it. yo gamespot, make sure you clarify in the headline next time to avoid the confusion would ya?
Why is it that every game so far for the Kinect has been a flagrant waste of what the technology can really do? Dance games? Crappy sports games? Isn't that what the Wii is for?
First thing I was thinking was "Wait, I thought Sony published Wipeout" Then I look at the screen shots, and it's a MXC ripoff.
hey i like Wipeout, but it might not be that funny when you fall face flat on solid ground in you house without all the safety measures the show producers have put in place
@shani_boy101, How eloquently spoken... You know that deep bubbly feeling in your tummy that caused you to say sucha rash anf foolish thing? That is called fanboyism, it has no place here. You like another show more, that is fine, yet this game got its own game. no need to attack gamespot on it, especially not in such a incorrect way.
Wipeout is just a knockoff of a Japanese game show that's been around for years called Takeshi's Castle (or something like that... havent seen an episode in years and my Japanese sucks)... Spike tried to bring it to American audiences with MXC (Most Xtreme elmination Challenge, video clipped and edited from the Japanese show with tacky voiceovers in place of the real audio).
Nice of you to mislead all of us with the title Gamespot. Also Wipeout has nothing on Japanese game shows anyway, go check out Unbeatable Banzuke.
Wipeout the reality show is one of my favorite Reality Game Shows to watch over the summer, just because of some of the wacky courses the contestants run through, especially the Big Balls. The Sucker Punch Wall, though, is what really cracks me up, especially if a "low blow" lands on a male contestant. That said, if Activision & ABC pull this game off well, it could make for some funny gameplay this summer.
they are not talking about the AMAZING sci-fi racer are they? oh well. my interest in the kinect went back down to negative 100.
Nice. I love playing the Doritos' Crash Course platformer w/ my kids. (Free DLC, go get it). The kids think it IS wipe out, that's why they like it. I always thought Crash Course was a blatant rip-off of Wipe Out or the Japanese equivalents, thought they should've partnered with Wipe Out for that one in the first place. I hope the Kinect version works out.
i hate that show they force participants to act like weirdos and make excessive fun of them to the point where its not funny. Japanese show true ninja is a lot better than this garbage.
we will have to get buckets of water ready for when me and the family play. when we wipeout have the ones not playing throw the water at you:)
If only they could make a boxing glove come outta the screen and knock u out then i would buy it. For the realism not the black eye =p
I was initally wondering how they'd be able to pull off the high speed racing Wipeout on Kinect before clicking on this article... I guess I'm not going to get my answer...yet.
I'll join the chorus and utter a sad "wrong Wipeout"... I would have loved a Kinect-abled Wipeout Pure. That would have... potential. I sorta suspected otherwise, because I think the Wipeout IP is owned by SCEA.
The show is the one I thought they were referring to. I didn't know there was another. If it's as hilarious as the show it should be good.
lol at everyone who thought that this was the WipeOut they thought about but it didn't turn out to be, add me to the crowd.
