World of Warcraft Monopoly, Starcraft Risk inbound
Board games based on popular Blizzard franchises due beginning this May at retail; player pieces for Monopoly set put to vote on Facebook.
Blizzard's World of Warcraft and Starcraft franchises both have new in-game add-ons due out in the future, but the franchises are also growing off the screen. Today, Blizzard announced a new partnership with specialized board game maker USAopoly that will see Monopoly: World of Warcraft and Risk: StarCraft hit retailers beginning this May.
Monopoly: World of Warcraft replaces traditional properties with iconic WOW locations like Twilight Highlands, Grizzly Hills, and the Swamp of Sorrows, and it includes Alliance- and Horde-themed dice
As for the player pieces in Monopoly: World of Warcraft, Blizzard is leaving that decision to fans. Blizzard is currently holding a poll on its Facebook page where fans can vote to decide which items will make it into the game as player pieces.
The options are Chen's Keg, Corehound Pup, Crafting Anvil, Doomhammer, Flight Path Boot, Hearthstone, Mechagnome, Murky, Spellbook, and Treasure Chest. Monopoly: World of Warcraft is due out this May for $40.
As for Risk: Starcraft, the board game has players choose from terran, protoss, or zerg factions and six heroes before taking on other players in the famous strategy game. The game boasts three modes, over 290 pieces, and launches this summer for $50.
World of Warcraft and Starcraft are not the first gaming properties to be adapted into specialized board games. The Metal Gear Solid and Halo franchises have also been spun into Risk board games, and a Nintendo version of Monopoly is also available.
As for World of Warcraft and Starcraft, Blizzard is currently developing expansions for both games in the form of Mists of Pandaria and Heart of the Swarm, respectively. However, Activision revealed last week that it does not expect both to launch before the end of the year.
who says i have friends to play these games with
I want Pandas!
I play World of Warcraft regularly and am not ashamed. Some years ago people used to say so much good things about this game, and now that there are others "pay to play" titles, it so often gets ridiculed by everyone who thinks enjoying such an old game is absurd, but enjoying classic titles from long dead consoles is ok. Or because hs/she thinks there are too much fanatic people playing the game for it to be good, or stuf I don't need mentioning. The thing is, WoW is fun, and the content keeps coming even after such a long time. When it's about MMO's, the more content, the better, and there's some good content from 7/8 years of WoW. There will aways be fanatic people, Harry Potter has a lot of fanatic crazy followers, and that doesn't necessarily has to end your life, should you play the game, or read the book. And if you like another game of the same genre, like, let's say, The Old Republic or Rift, then just be happy and play it. Gosh, it was so great some years ago when I could tell people I like WoW and not fear to get ridiculed.
@cds325 Not sure if trolling. But honestly when I quit WoW I felt quite liberated. I wasn't tied down on raiding nights and I had so much more free time. And I was not a casual player by any means, during WotLK I was one of the main tanks to the best horde guild on my server. I had Shadowmourne, over 10k achievement and was the second DK on my server to hit 85 once cata rolled around. Quitting WoW was one of the best things I ever did as far as gaming goes. Not that I hate the game, I have fond memories from it and met a lot of people I still keep contact with. The design of the game though demands too much time and it wasn't a price I was willing to pay anymore.
i may not play WoW any more but i would love to have Monopoly: World of Warcraft and Risk: StarCraft, love both monopoly and risk, kinda surpised this hasnt happen sooner and with different broadgame themes like Stratego... also when is the Happy Meal toys coming ;P
@darktruth007 10 millions subscribers is "dying"? Considering EA said TOR would be profitable with 500k subs that seems like a pretty stupid thing to say @ALLoY1717 Exactly what I was thinking there are some people that pay insane amounts just for pets and mounts those people would buy these games and probally never even use them
pass go collect 200 Gold..!?
It's funny that WoW is getting a Monopoloy game, when it has had Monopoly on the no. 1 spot on the MMO market. I guess there is always more money to be squeezed out of a successful product.
More like "Milkopoly". Does anyone even play all these versions of a once great classic or just buy the game to collect due to fan-boy loyalties. I think there is a version out for everything.
2 1/2 years to develop HotS expansion pack? Maybe Blizzard has too much on it's plate.
Lol at blizzard attempting to convince us of their "monopoly" - your game's dying bro - better cancel your plans to buy that seventh or eighth private jet :p
im a recovering addict from world of warcraft. I stomped my WOW disc on the floor because it was RUINING MY LIFE! It was for the best... but regret it.. i.. need.. help... now.. its hard I need my fix NOW.... Will this board game help me with my addiction.. PLEASE No joke Help me This board game might help me... but wont be as good as the real thing.. NO NO!!! NO!! help me!!! I mean this withdraw isnt so bad... my clan.. hope they didnt forget me.. but they must.. I want to go to Aseroth... HELP HELP ME
I'm waiting for WoW Parcheesi.
i laughed when i saw this. i dont know if its a good fit but it may be fun. curious what happens when you pass go.
Alliance sucks, Horde is better. :) HORDE-OPOLY NAOW. GO! GIMME!
Add a free WoW pet with the board games and see them fly off shelves and into closets once the code has been redeemed.
As if Blizzard wasn't making enough money... But seriously, 40-50 bucks for a board game? I can get 4 games on Steam for that much.
I haven't played board games since.... I can't even remember when was the last time. :P I've been playing only video games when I'm bored.
Will be buying the Risk one, already have enough monopoly to play.
So its come to this.
Hmmm..........
I have like 5 or 6 different varies of risk lying around my house, but I only play the one that was my dad's when he was a kid. Sorry, Blizzard, but I'm not making that mistake again.
well at least in the WoW monopoly you can /yell all the profanities and racial slurs you want without getting booted for a few days.
I want Mortal Kombat Candyland.
$40? I could preorder a handheld game for that price. >.>
I have an idea for one of the properties: one spot dedicated to gold-farming. :P
Well, why not? I love Monopoly. I don't know why you'd want a Warcraft themed business board game, but greater diversity can't hurt, especially if it introduces more new players to the (board) game.
$40 and $50? Expensive board games!
Anything that makes people play these games. I might give Risk a second look...
I'm still waiting for World of Warcraft breakfast cereal.
"Merchandising, merchandising, where the real money from the movie is made. Spaceballs the T-shirt. Spaceballs the lunchbox. Spaceballs the coloring book. Spaceballs... the flamethrower! Kids love it. And my favorite, Spaceballs the Doll -- me!"
*ugh*
@Tripwolf lol I almost wet my pants!
Sc2 risk.... very cool! Would never use it but wouldn't mind having it on display. WoWopoloy is about as awesome an idea as panda monks. GG Blizz, GG. You know what would be cooler than either of those? A D3 version of D3.
Is this going to be marketed directly for and towards Asian countries as well? Or is that just World of Warcraft? Bada dun tch!

*Rolls Eyes*.
World of Warcraft's days are numbered.
ive gotten bored on being awesome and popular. so i think im gonna start playing world of warcraft so i can stop being awesome and become a fat virgin for life that never leaves his moms basement.
NO!
@Tauu Yeah, personally i hate the moment they decided to make WoW, without that thing they would have focused all their resources on D3, SC 2 and a Warcraft 4 eventually. Instead, so much of their focus is on this cash cow so they keep delaying the vastly superior games again and again...and again.
You know what would be cool? Warcraft 4! :)
I'm such a freaking nerd that I can't wait to get Star Craft Risk. I already have two versions of original risk, one with roman numeral pieces, and one with soldier, horse and cannon pieces, Risk 2050, and a collector's addition.
This makes me want to MGS Risk...
The women won't get it. Well, my female friends at least. They all just blink! :D
The World of Warcraft monopoly game pieces should be the character classes wearing gear, not individual items!
Incoming Zergling rush in Risk.
*Lands on Chance*... GM found baseless info of you "exploiting" a raid boss. You are banned from WoW Monopoly for 7 days. *nerd rages*
" Merchandising, merchandising, where the real money from the game is made. WoW-the T-shirt, WoW-the Coloring Book, WoW-the Lunch box, WoW-the Breakfast Cereal, WoW-the Flame Thrower."
Cant wait for kung fu panda exp to flop big time
