Victor Lucas of Electric Playground gathers together some of the top talent in the gaming and game media industry to discuss their love for Japan and Japanese-developed games and to ask for your support.
@eric5683 Our nation is Broke, without China bailing us out we'd have to face the reality that our money is basically worthless. China is the most successful functioning economy on Earth right now. Donations to Katrina? Don't make me lol, our own President didn't even respond in a respectful manner.
* Japan is a top five owner of us debt at 877,200,000,000 (thats almost 900 billion) * Japans government contributions to Katrina = 800,000 (thats less than 1 million) * The Red Cross has already donated over 161,000,000 to japan ( not counting all other donations) * The totals are not out for our military costs but lets just assume they are in the billions of dollars., and i just met a soldier yesterday that has not been getting paid and and is now in debt and owes thousands of dollars because the u.s. government has not paid him his meager salary. A slowly breaking country giving billions to its debtor.... GENIUS
@eoin I checked out your friends list. You have 3! No surprise there as you seem intent on arguing, alienating,or ticking off everyone on this site. With little regards for their opinions. Forget for a instant all of the technology the world has gotten from Japan. This was a disaster. A disasper of EPIC proproptions. Nuclear reacters were in jeopardy giving out mass amounts of radiations.Radiations that could not only affect their country but also surrounding one and the US shores and western United States. The long and short of it is that people with good hearts will donate to whatever country if they can affort it at the time. Society is generally a giving body. And those who have harden theier hearts or who have have cold hearts will not give a cent to relief efforts. But to those that give "PR" has nothing to do with it. It is the good hearedness of the individual.
it feels so good to donate especially for a country that is so advanced, and also what they did for the gaming industry and also very good sushi final words PURELY AWESOME COUNTRY!
I went to Japan for the first time last year, and I must say I was blown away. Culture, Food, Women, omg. I wanna go back, even to help out the relief effort.
@RealWreckless : I wouldn't put it like that, however I have heard that the American Red Cross in specific takes an amount out of the donations for taxes or some sort of other toll the government puts down. I also heard that donations would be better in the hands of the Japanese Red Cross or sent directly to Japanese emergency funds.
@oxjackiechan ummm.... Galaga???? Gradius??? Contra??? Ikaruga??? Sin and Punishment??? Gunstar Heroes??? Those are pretty real Japanese shooting games, if you ask me?!
@blabadon uncharted 1,2,or 3 wasn't made in japan,Sony published it but didn't make it, and real Japanese games aren't any types of shooting games their mainly rpg, fighting, and adventure.
I have never seen so many bodacious babes on a Gamespot post before! Jessica Chobot is a bombshell! Heck Yes, I'm giving money! Sign me up!
@wiserat4 nope a man in a pirate costume stabbed you in the ear when you were nine, and again when you were thirty.
Super Mario 64: Dire, Dire Docks , always bring out the kid me, thank you for all great memories my heart goes out to Japan, hope they recover fast :).
@OldKye.. good point, but punctuation goes a long way when trying to an impact on people. I had to reread several lines there. yikes.
wow, mario 64! I remember waiting outside toys R us. We had those pick tickets, didn't wait in line. You just had to have one of those tickets to pick it up on launch..IIRC. I will always support you Nintendo. Thank you so much. Playstation one....I miss those days too, with the RE series.
@KhanBloodsucker that should be obvious by the name haiti doesn't make games honestly they don't make hardly anything we import japan makes games, cars, electronics, ex... this is saying support a place in need that makes things you like not support a place in need out of pity it's a different approach because even though they need help like you said they aren't as pitiable doesn't mean people are less homeless less without water or electricity just because other places are worse off normally did you also say to hell with New orleans after katrina cause the USA has too much money so they shouldn't get help? i doubt it because it hit closer to home which is how the gaming industry feels about japan so they are voicing that in much the same way someone who survived cancer is more likely too ask you to give to the cancer foundation than someone who hardly knows what that is.
I appreciate their support for the earthquake/tsunami disaster, but where were they when NZ and Haiti got dropped in the meat grinder? The 3rd largest economy in the world will persevere and survive financially. I think they are more in need of nuclear containment and waste specialists to save the precious little liveable land there is there and to stop the spread of radiation via the dumping of irradiated water into the ocean.
@eoin - Dude your an idiot. You have totally misinterpreted what Gelugon_baat has said, even when explained to you on a per sentence basis you insist on posting irrelevant counter-arguements with the guise of what is otherwise some good points... For example: "Haiti has people, japan has people. Lets be kind and give money to people in need regardless of what they have to give in return" Gelugon_baat said nothing about giving to one and not the other based on their produce. Nor did he insinuate. He simply said: "not everyone has an endless well of goodwill, who will give help to anyone in need regardless of circumstances. To get them to help, they are going to need convincing of any kind - and this, this "Gamers Heart Japan" media blitz is one of such efforts to convince the more stone-hearted." A very good point, one that you just dont seem to be getting and are too interested in point scoring as opposed to understanding the good nature of this appeal. Your an Idiot, and im an idiot for trying to explain to an idiot why hes an idiot. Just take it for what it is, a good hearted appeal. Donate or dont, its up to you...
@Gelugon_baat SO? if the donation is made then thats its. I'm completely in my rights to critize if it was made for the wrong reasons. You are playing devils advocate do it and you deserve all the muck thats slung at you. "Oh, so now you are resorting to hypothetical situations that are not touching on natural disasters and their aftermaths in any way?" ? "YOU - are in the process of learning this the soul-crushing way" Yes I was using and hypothetical because its your mentality I have a problem with. As in using soul crushing, the sould is abit of an abstract concept so spare me your "down to earth approach". I have nothing to learn from you or anybody once I read some of the fanboy comments my sould was already crushed. The ego on you as if you could possibly impart so of your "wisdom" on me hahahaha Screw that for a laugh!
@theunseenblade The problem is not with atomic physics. Reading any news report will inform you of the worsening leaks. The problem is with poor regulations and the blind faith of the japanese people in their government. And how excellent that my previous comment was removed because it was "offensive".
Its funny when people think that the Japanese don't make origianl games, and they are the ones who normally get the best sales, and critical reception, I hope the land of the rising sun recovers soon.
Japan will be stronger than ever after they recover from the tragedy and make more awesome games and new technology. My favorite game series from Japan have to be Zelda, Mario and the FF games.
I appreciate Japan for all its aspects. I'm a real ottaku, Fan of their games, their anime, just their culture in general, Going to japan one day is my dream.
Man look at all those thumbs down I have. I did not assume that he did it. All I said was that probably god did this because they did something that mad him mad but I still hate what happened to Japan. I feel like the bad guy.
Good job Victor Lucas! It's nice to see people coming together to help support the people of japan and their developers.
I don't feel anything just because its Japan. I mean if something happens to a other part of the world it would be shocken ass well. Anyway I really hopes it will come at a good end. When i finish my collage i am going to Japan Radiation ore not.
Favorite answer was said by Blair Herter. Jesus this earthquake thing sucks. I wish I could help, but alas I lack the funds...
