" Is there any reason (other than just collecting) to buy the GCN version over the Wii version?"

Absolutely not. Not only does the Wii version include much better graphics and all the control options you could ever want, but it also includes all the extras that were included in the PS2 and PC versions of RE4 as well. It's the definitive version of RE4, without a doubt. Yesh.

o_0 you can't be serious right ? Much better graphics? You must be confused with the HD RE-Release . Wii version has identical graphics to the GCN version .

That is an untruth. The graphics on the Resident Evil 4: Wii Edition have been drastically improved- although the Wii itself (and the connections most people use to hook it up to the TV) hamper the output, so many people can't truly see the level of quality that's been put into the final product.

You want to see what the improvements look like when the game is being shown for what it was truly designed to be?

GameCube quality my left shoe. I refuse to blame Capcom for NIntendo's own shortcomings.

"what it was truly designed to be"?

It was designed for the Gamecube, an SD system, so technically it was designed to be in SD, not HD.

No, the GameCube version of Resident Evil 4 was designed for the GameCube. The Wii Version, on the other hand, was designed by Capcom to be drastically improved in every way.

I really don't see where you intend for this to go except to be needlessly irritating and difficult.

Thanks for your guys' (or gals) detailed descriptions! I really look forward to playing a lot of these games and checking them out you guys are great. With Pandora's Tower scheduled for NA now though, I think I'll have enough on my plate for a while. My backlog is ready.

Thanks again, I really appreciate all of your help!

I'm just saying, Capcom were aware of the Wii's specs when they made RE4 Wii Edition.

For the record, as far as I'm aware, the only visual upgrade the Wii version has over the Gamecube one is proper 480p widescreen, so Capcom didn't even take advantage of the Wii's full power. They could have upped the texture resolution at least.

Did you even look at those screenshots?

They did, it's just that the limitations of the Wii make it not noticeable to the average Joe.

Yes, I looked at the screens. The only improvements over the Gamecube are resolution, anisotropic filtering, (which is why the textures seem to look better) and anti-aliasing.

You are entitled to your opinion. I disagree with it, but I'm mature enough not to resort to such pathetic meanderings as that fellow above.

your an idiot. I'm sorry . I didn't want to reply but your just an idiot . I use component cables for my Wii hooked up to a CRT HDTV which gives the Best picture possible as I'm sure most people on this board do .. Those screenshots are of a Wii game hacked to run on a PC emulator . TRUST ME WHEN I TELL YOU CAPCOM DID NOT INTEND FOR YOU TO PLAY THE GAME LIKE THAT . Granted its a nice little hack but its not what the game was intended to look like . Now even comparing the hack vs the actual HD Versions . The HD Versions STILL look better . Nintendo really dropped the ball with the Wii. Should have at least made t competitive but as it stands the whole console was a big let down. Had its share of Top TRIPLE A games but not enough to justify just owning a Wii. Makes a great companion console, but on its own??? Not so much ..

I'd take the Wii over a 360 or a PS3. Sure, it's not competitive graphically, but the PS3 and 360 are for the most part handcuffed to controllers that have barely evolved since the first dualshock on the PS1 back in 1997.
