Operation Flashpoint: Red River User Review

- The Bottom Line:
- "Worth playing"
This review is very subjective. I am not just looking at the game itself but I am comparing it to other FPS out in the market.
Before I start I would like to point out several things
1) This is the first Flashpoint game I have played
2) I have never played any of the other "realistic" FPS (Ghost Recon, Rainbow 6 etc)
3) I am a massive fan of current FPS (MOH, COD, Killzone)
Current FPS are great online but the single player games are a bit, well, dull. They are a corridor shooter with some light turret shooter set pieces. They are well crafted stories that feel too restrictive when it comes to the action.
For me Flashpoint overcomes this. Big, open world. Loads of scope for different tactics. Good story, well scripted (although some of the Oorah marine banter gets annoying after a while)
Dont get me wrong its far from perfect. Some of the graphics can be a bit dodgy. The constant radio chatter from other fireteams claiming they have a man down gets annoying too (even though at the end of the mission they are back to a full squad of 4)
There have been alot of complaints about the AI. To me it reacts how real insurgents would. They are not professional soldiers so they would run about, look for cover, and break if they took alot of fire. The only AI issue in my opinion is that the professional chinese troops act the same way which is a bit dumb.
So all in all it has its issues, but it scores high with me due to how enjoyable an experience it is.

Not for everyone, but also not terrible.

Engrossing gunplay and surprisingly cohesive missions, but AI still buggin' out...

What it does good - doesn't make up for what it does poorly.
