Users who submit applications to become moderators will recieve a reply should they be accepted. However those who are not accepted will not recieve a reply. I wish to suggest issuing a reply to all applicants. I understand that if there are many applicants, this may take some time, however, I believe it would be very beneficialfor those who are not accepted.

I agree. I've applied before and I'd at least like to know if they find me as a potential moderator or not.

It's really just a time issue, I'm sure. It takes enough time for Jody, the sole CM, to sift through all moderation applications, and I'm sure you can understand there are a lot of them, never mind having to reply to each and every person giving feedback to each person. Besides, I don't see why this would be needed. It should be clear enough when you are not chosen to be a moderator.

Isn't it pretty obvious when you aren't accepted though? The applications are only a part of the process, and they are usually only dealt with a few weeks before a draft...They aren't like looked over when they are received or anything...

Well believe me she reads all of the applications. I know this as a fact. There are just way too many to respond to each and every person especially when some just send an e-mail for kicks and waste her time.

It may not be immediately obvious whether an applicant has been accepted or not, as they recieve no notification of acceptance, nor a notification of whether the draft has taken place. Therefore, the only means through which they would be able to discover whether they were accepted or not would be to see whether new moderators have appeared by viewing various boards where moderators frequently post - which is a very unreliable method of accomplishing the goal.

Based upon the tone of the above posts, it appears I may have unintentionally offended one or more users. If this is the case, then I sincerely apologise.

No, that is not the case, at all. If you were accepted, you would be told you were accepted and then asked if you still wanted to join. Moderators are not just given the permissions and let loose. They know they have been accepted a few days in advance.

Well, if they never get contacted, they did not get accepted. Simple.

However, how will they know whether they have not been contacted as a result of not being accepted, or whether they have not been contacted as their application is still pending?

I say a PM should be sent to all applicants and new mods when a draft has occured. A telegram of sorts. That way, you'll see when a new draft was made, and you'll also see if you weren't accepted as you could tell easily by whether or not you have the moderator emblem and the moderator boxes in your information window (where your name, level, post count, etc. are).

Considering the amount of resources that would tie up for very little gain, I don't see any real benefit to something like this. When you apply for a job in the real world, I would hope you don't expect a phone call to let you know you didn't get the job...

You didn't offend anybody but we only have 1 CM now and she already has so many responsibilities that this is one example of a step not needed. As the others have stated, if you got the position you will be notified. If you don't hear anything nobody says you can't resubmit another application/inquiry down the road.

I took a quick look at your profile and moderation history. I can tell why you were likely not accepted(this is just a guess on my part). You have only been a member, with this account at least, for only 6 months and also have 2 moderations in the last 6 months as well. I would spend more time getting to see how each of the main forums run(read the sticky threads in each as there are very different rules depending on the forum usually)and begin reporting violations you see.

Sorry to break the bad news guys, but the user who posted this topic has decided to quit GAMESPOT for good. He mentioned about this in his blog. He says that the manner in which you guys have responded to his thread was in a sharp tone and has decided to leave. I read each of those posts carefully, but there weren't any harsh words in your tone. Maybe he couldn't face the harsh reality that he couldn't become a MOD, he also has some psychological problems

I don't even know why i'm talking about it He isn't even one of my friends(WAS my friend ..long story). So i just wanted to say if you have some time, you could leave a comment on his blog to an effect that he wouldn't quit. I know it doesn't really matter if he quits or not, but it would be a good gesture on your part so that the MODS are not made the bad guys in this case...

Wow. I don't know why anybody would leave over our replies in this thread. We simply provided our opinions why this would not be a good idea. Not hostile at all. Ah well.

Inflection of tones over the internet doesn't translate that well, but I don't think anyone's tone was harsh/sharp/whatever...

Him quitting is his own decision.

Looking over the thread, he may of took offense to spazz's "Isn't it obvious" comment or his illustration of hoping he doesn't expect a phone call when you apply for a job. Nothing serious, for sure, but it's the only thing I see that some may take offense to. Of course, if you can't take a minor joke or comparison, maybe you shouldn't be on an internet forum, cause there's plenty of that here.

As for the thread suggestion, I don't see the need either. You'll receive a message if you're chosen. If you don't receive a message, it goes without saying. Is it recommended to re-apply though? I always though all (good) applications were saved.

Yeah, I know. I guess he took it as sarcasm, and he though that moderators shouldn't use sarcastic remarks. But we all do
