Check out the wonders of videoblogging as I capture early morning office reactions to the name "Wii". [Explicit Content Warning: As you might expect, there is swearing.]

Perfect use of GameSpot's new video feature, Carrie. I'm looking forward to watching more irreverent goings-on at the GameSpot offices. Buncha crazies.

Good video blog Carrie! Seeing all the staff in their natural habitat talking about Nintendo Wii, just hilarious, you should do more blogs like that. Btw i don't like that name, they should of just stuck with the Revolution.

Nice video blog!!! Anyway Nitendo Wii is a realy bad name lol

I think that there should be like a live feed into the Gamespot office and you guys should just make faces into it whenever you walk by- that would be cool. We need more footage of the Gamespot staff playing games. I know button mashing is being brought back, but why don't you, say, when you're including games into the hall of fame, have someone actually playing the game and talking about it? I think more competitive (videoed) gaming between the Gamespot crew would be great as well. What about a good old fashioned Streetfighter 2 tourney or something?

Wow thanks for capturing that moment for us Carrie. What a classic!
I guess, in time, everyone will get used to the name, but right now it's... I don't even know what to say.. it's just WRONG!

I tagged the Nintendo Wii article with "wtf" That pretty much sums up my thoughts on that decision.

Ahh, it's always nice to see videos of the GS offices, it's such an interesting place. I actually like the new name, it sounds all-encompassing and like it targets Nintendos demographic well (although I suppose only time will tell). It's such a different name for a console I think it will take a while for people to get used to it, right now it's just mud-slinging.

What do you think of it Carrie, or are we gonna have to wait for tonights OTS for that?

  • laconicNT

    Posted Apr 27, 2006 1:19 pm GMT

WIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIII %D I'm spinning nonstop until release day. I'm going to get Busman on board this comedy gravy train with biscuit wheels ASAP. Because nothing spins like biscuit wheels.

I'm sure this made perfect sense on Nintendo, second moon of planet Japan.

lac, btw, I posted some IMOC/SFAS stuff in my VIDEO section if you click that little tabby thing. You're probably one of the few people who will get a kick out of it.

edge- yeah you'll hear plenty of Carrie-fueled whining about the Wii on On the Spot today.

Well, it's different. I kind of like it now. It's just sort of infected my mind and slowly taking over my brain. It's "Wii". Well, better than "Ultra 64".

  • alpha99

    Posted Apr 27, 2006 1:43 pm GMT

The name is awful, horrible even... I felt the same way as the editors when I read the news. I just don't get it... It's a sad, sad day...

  • guisepppe

    Posted Apr 27, 2006 1:47 pm GMT

I wish I could watch this, but I can only see snippets of 3-4 secs at a time, followed by a loading of maybe a minute, and I simply don't have the patience. I'll come back to haunt this blog later.

I agree... what was wrong with Dreamcast? I thought that was the best name.
It's my most precious console right now...

Thanks for showing us what you guys really think.
Now let's see what you'll say tonight...

Well, after making my own journal entry and replying to some others about this same thing...I thought I would have run out of things to add, but that video was awesome. ALMOST as good as Tim's (sorry, Carrie). I almost feel like Iwata's head is gonna pop out somewhere and say "Gotcha, *****es!" and then run off giggling...

    "Does it Support Wii-Fi"

That quote is simply hilarious. Thanks for that video Carrie, it's always great to see you guys around the gamespot office, that's why I like the Rich Gallup Poll.

Gotta love that video... great idea you had there Carrie.... and I also detest the "Wii".

  • buckeye1186

    Posted Apr 27, 2006 3:38 pm GMT

Yeah, just wait until all of you Gamespot people have a blast with the Wii at E3. You guys are so cynical. I like it. It's fun and unique.

    Marketers love the tag line:
    Wii: it's just that fun!

I'm going to say this crippled the console pretty bad in North America just from the name alone. What were they thinking?

  • BenderUnit22

Wii like it. Great video blog

  • caesarbites

    Posted Apr 27, 2006 4:58 pm GMT

Wii is the MOST HORRIBLE name they could have ever came up with. Revolution was way, way better. Whoever decided to change the name like that deserves big blocks of swiss cheese shoved up his nostrils.

Great, great stuff. I hope you do this more often.

One question though. Why all the "Dreamcast" haters!?

  • Wo0kiE239

    Posted Apr 27, 2006 7:11 pm GMT

Eh, i don't get it. The Dreamcast thing, that is. I think that name's pretty damn good.

Wii, though... um... yeah. Not so good.

I'm going to make some stickers that say "REV". They will be made to fit over the new name on the "Revolution". I should become rich overnight with these babies. Muahahahahaaa....

  • DrummerX

    Posted Apr 27, 2006 9:53 pm GMT

    Hehe, to funny.

My inital reaction to Wii was "meh, nothin new" But now that I've read "it's really not about you or me. It's about Wii. And together, Wii will change everything"...and learned it was an official comment...I just love it. I want THAT on a t-shirt.

  • ShenlongBo

    Posted Apr 27, 2006 10:30 pm GMT

If the name for Nintendo's new console achieves nothing else, at least it's got people talking and heads turning. I still can't decide where I stand on the name. Shameless marketing ploy or elegance in simplicity? It's still too early to tell.

Also, capturing that moment on camera was a stroke of brilliance .

  • ApHoTiK

    Posted Apr 27, 2006 11:58 pm GMT

Haha Jeff's reaction is the best

  • U1

It doesn't help that the Revolution's controller is kind of a wand. "Waving my wand at my Wii" etc

Totally AWESOME!!! I think more people at GS should do some "off camera" video recording. Funny, unscripted, off-the-cuff: great stuff. Although I don't want you to get a reputation as 'Ms. Hidden Camera.'

  • Dalton2K5

    Posted Apr 28, 2006 8:33 am GMT

Hey! The Dreamcast might have been an odd name, but at least it sounded cool.
    To a point, anyways.
Well, what would you have wanted? The Dreamcast, or Naomi? Or a planet like their previous console? I doubt "Sega Uranus" wouldv'e sold well. =P
