Man United to sign Obertan, claims Bordeaux chief

Manchester United are leading the race to sign Girondins Bordeaux starlet Gabriel Obertan according to Jean-Louis Triaud, President of the French Ligue 1 club.

"There is a very strong likelihood that the deal will go ahead. Manchester United want to sign him and, for our part, we would be delighted to see Gabriel playing for such a prestigious club. We will make the official announcement when the time is right."

-Jean-Louis Triaud

The winger was loaned out to Lorient by Bordeaux boss Laurent Blanc for part of last season but has featured in les Girondins' first team since he was 17. He was awarded the Most Valuable Player award at last month's Toulon International Youth Tournament.

Tevez Transfer | Fergie denies "Tevez for free" plot

Sir Alex Ferguson has distanced Manchester United from suggestions they could ask Carlos Tevez to break his contract with Kia Joorabchian in order sign the Argentine on permanent deal beyond the end of his present two-year loan agreement.

''We could all break our contracts. I am not discussing anything like that. It is a bit far-fetched really.''

''There was a meeting with (chief executive) David Gill on Wednesday, that is a clear fact. They discussed the avenue under which Carlos could stay with Manchester United. End of story. I realise you (the media) speak to his agent but I do not wish to discuss the matter any further.''

-Sir Alex Ferguson.

Tevez Transfer talk | United could sign Tevez for free?

Carlos Tevez - Manchester United v Manchester City: Carlos Tevez makes his point as United climb back on top

Tevez could sign for free
United could try to sign Carlos Tevez on a Bosman-styIe free transfer. Manchester United may be exploring whether there are legal loopholes in the striker's contract. In particular, the third party ownership agreement which ties Tevez with the investment company MSI is under scrutiny. Leading sports lawyers might be be looking at whether the ownership of Tevez's registration by MSI could be challenged under the same terms as Jean Marc Bosman took on the old transfer system. His advisor Kia Joorabchian said once again yesterday that no deal is close with United and that Tevez is willing to sign for one of their Premier League rivals. "What he wants to do is to go to a club which has real ambition, a real focus, to be champions of England, champions of Europe, champions of everywhere. Obviously, leaving United he would have to go to a rival in order to achieve that target. But he understands it's not in his control."

Poll: How much have we missed Hargreaves

Our recent poll posed the question how much did we miss the defensive strength and energy of Owen Hargreaves this season.

And the Red Devils in the Union believe that we have missed him a lot indeed!

Most seemed to think his presence would have allowed United to dominate the midfield more and ease some pressure on our defence. Plus his passing, energy, versatility, reading of the game, great deadball skill and experience would have improved United's performances significantly. Foolz3h was the only person who thought we missed him only slightly saying that Hargreaves cannot control a game the way carrick does and how much we missed him depends on whether he could have stabilised the team when Carrick didnt play well.

The poll is still open so you can still vote and join in on the discussion anytime!
