With little in the way of new technology, unable or unwilling to keep up with gaming technology, a potential widespread chip series failure, and dropping out of the chipset business, can the company hang on?

Quad-kit creator OCZ has been talking about phase-change cooling and, in term about its Cryo-Z cooler for quite some time now and, although promises were high and mighty the minutes, hours, day and months have passed and nothing became a reality. The Cryo-Z has been recently deemed as cancelled, the rumor was countered by OCZ but the whole truth is that, more than a year after it was first showcased, the Cryo-Z is finally on the home stretch. The phase-change cooler is currently in the safe hands of OCZ's engineers and, as we recently found out, it will arrive in stores very soon, before the end of this quarter, and at a price tag that will make it very appealing to anyone who wants to run (overclocked) CPUs at sub-zero temperatures and doesn't have liquid hydrogen lying around the house. Samsung has launched a new kind of nonvolatile memory dubbed Phase-change Random Access Memory, better known as PRAM. At present this new memory technology is under great research from Samsung, however the electronics company has finally demonstrated a working 512 megabit sample. Samsung has claimed that PRAM is slated to replace current NOR flash memory technology within the next several years.

Initially, there was a very good reason for why DirectX 10 was not possible to be backported to Windows XP, and why Vista as a requirement was valid.

Now, new opinions suggest that a recent move by MS may coincidentally remove this technical barrier, and that the only reason left for DX10 not being backported is pure and simple greed.

AMD recently announced that the upcoming Barcelona-based chips will be initially released with a maximum clock speed of 2.0GHz for their first native quad-core processors.

Could this be a sign of a slow start? or AMD losing another round to the intel juggernaut?

By the end of Summer, Intel's Conroe lineup will have ballooned from a meager five processors at launch to at least different 14 models.

Intel's official statement is that these CPUs will be available "later this summer."
