ShockTillYouDrop.com conducted an interesting interview with Don Carmody, one of the producers of the second Silent Hill movie, that shed some light on the possible direction that the sequel will take.

excerpt -
Carmody:"I think we need to make it a little more accessible to the movie-going public," he says frankly. "Silent Hill is not a blockbuster game like Resident Evil or the other games out there. It's a connoisseurs' game. It has its own, rabid fan base. They're not cheap, these things. You have to appeal not only to the gamers, you have to appeal to a wider audience. So we have to get some story in there that helps explain a bit more. I think that's all happening. Of course, [the story] is going to happen years later and the main character - without giving too much away - is much older and representative to the movie-going public which is in that age group."
Another tidbit Carmody provided is that Christopher Gans will not return to direct the sequel.
According to GoNintendo the European version of Silent Shattered Memories will be getting new box art that is much closer to the North American version. **old vs. new**
Konami has launched an official website for the upcoming Silent Hill: Shattered Memories.

The "Buy It Now" link for the game on Konami's official website redirects to the Shattered Memories Amazon listing that is showing a November 3rd release date for the title. Still no official announcements on exact release dates for each region, or even if certain regions like Japan are seeing a release at all.
*EDIT 10/11 - It now appears that other major retailers such as Gamestop are reporting a December 8th release date(North America).
**2ND EDIT 10/13 - Konami has reportedly told CVG that Shattered Memories will now be coming out in February of next year(Europe and Australia).

Academy Award winning writer/director Roger Avary has been sentenced to a year in prison after a drunk driving incident claimed the life of a friend and left others with serious injuries.

Fatale, 'an interactive vignette in realtime 3D based on the story of Salome', is scheduled to be released on October 5, 2009. I think it's safe to assume that the game will be available through the 'Fate of Fates' website as well as through steam (as other FOF titles were available there). The above character from Fatale is Salome who was designed by Takayoshi Sato, character artist for Silent Hill and Silent Hill 2.
Numerous movie sites have been circulating the news that the Hollywood Reporter first reported.. that Sony Pictures has "officially" announced a second Silent Hill movie that will begin production in 2010 after the fourth Resident Evil movie has been finished(which means this isn't simply Gans or Avary speculating on the matter again). No information has been released about plot details, returning characters(or lack there of) or even if Christopher Gans will return to direct. Only the return of writer Roger Avary and producer Samuel Hadida have been confirmed at this point.

September 10th saw the introduction of the original Silent Hill game into Sony's PSOne classics catalogue. It is available for download via the PS3/PSP for $5.99.

Follow the link and write in the comments about the first time you played a survival horror game and what got you hooked on the genre. It can be as long or as short as you want, in written, drawn, video or musical format, but be aware that entries that obviously show more effort will be considered most favorably.
If ya'll think this is pandering please let me know and I'll discontinue this series.
Also: Reserve Silent Hill Shattered Memories at Gamestop and receive a Silent Hill soundtrack composed by Akira Yamaoka. Soundtrack contains 18 of your favorite tracks from the Silent Hill series.
Here's a video preview of the upcoming Silent Hill: Homecoming.
Unlike the gamespot preview, this one is spoiler free. Enjoy.
Gamespot just published a Silent Hill: Homecoming Hands-on.
Check it here, but be warned that it may contain more information than you're ready to know at this point, namely the moment we will meet Pyramid Head for the first time and where we will meet him, among other details.
Silent Hill V's title has now been officially changed to Silent Hill: The Homecoming and has been given a release time of late September, which I hope they stick to.
Personally I find the name change sort of strange. Does it have some significance to the story? Does it relate to Alex coming home after being at war? Are Konami trying to distance this project from the main series? And, more importantly, does this now leave room for Team Silent to return and make an actual Silent Hill 5 at a later date? Hopefully this will be elaborated on in the months leading up to the game's release.
You can read the story over at CVG.
Update:
There are also some new gameplay videos available at Gamesradar. The atmosphere looks on the money, but the combat and animation looks pretty stiff. Hopefully this is fixed before the game hits retail. Another thing of note is that Alex has had a partial redesign, now looking more like a soldier returning from action than the average joe he previously looked like, and a new voice actor, who has a more distinct accent.
New screen shots were also released. Check them out in the link provided above.
Good news to all Silent Hill fans that don't own a PSP and want to play the prequel to the original Silent Hill.

Silent Hill: Origins is set to appear on the PS2 sometime in the near future. Konami has confirmed that the game is being ported, but didn't specify any date for it to be available.
