I'm a kind of a person that don't like FPS too much, but this game is other than any of FPS I have ever seen. This game is absolutely fun, by playing more, you just get more fun and fun, I just can't describe it!!! Okay let's start with the story-line, it's not complicated but for me that game don't need any story at all, the most important thing in Painkiller is KILLING, KILLING, and one more time KILLING! You are just a dead, and if you want to go to heaven, you must kill hordes of Lucifer servants. OKay let's talk about gameplay - gameplay. In each level you must kill all enemies to proceed further, the level design are great but not always, the locations such as cementery, catedra, asylum are great but there are some weaker like Military base, city on water, which can make you boring. In each level you will encounter many kinds of enemies, starts from skeleton knights by monks, to soldiers, tanks, psycho kids, witches etc. When enemy appears you will hear the hard rock music, that is great composed with killing. Some levels are typical horror and some are just for totally fun, like the town, where you encounter zombies, and instead of scary, you will be laughing while you will kill them more and more. The game is brutal, so don't buy it for your youngster brother or cousin :) The persons who like typical FPS like Halo probably will don't find the game fun, you just don't use any tactics, you just kill, without even thinking, and that's what I totally love in Painkiller. But remember that game isn't so stupid as you think! Each level got tons of secrets, to find, by destroing barrels etc. you will find a cash that you can spend for special abilities obtaining by using Tarot Cards. Tarot Cards - what's that? Yeah it's great element of Painkiller, in each level you have special task to complete, for example finish the level using only Stake Gun, or kill the boss in 2:00 minutes, if you manage to complete it, you will get Tarot Card which you place on a special board, by spending your money. Each card gives you abilities like more HP, better shield etc. And what about weapons? Your base weapon is Painkiller with unlimited ammo, you just shoot with a saw bullet, or use it as a saw to slice enemies. Each weapons have two types of ammunition, for example Shotgun, shooting with normal bullets, or freezing bullets, chaingun or rocket launcher. Controlls are very good you switch between ammo types, just by using Xbox triggers. The isn't hard only the bosses can cause troubles. Bosses are another great element of this game, each is cool designed, and in order to defeat it you must use special tactics, for example destroy all the statues, to stop the boss from regenerating. What is the worst element of game? The FMW's, they are ugly, and boring, why the hell producer put them to the game? Fortunately you can skip them :) As I said before, not all levels in game are good, some are seems to be done quick. Well I think that's all, if you like to rest from other games, and want to get fun, play Painkiller it's great FUN!
PS: The game is made by Polish studio "People Can Fly" I still can't believe that someone from Poland manage to make so great game!
