Update: DLC
Posted: May 15, 2009 7:38 pm GMT
On 5/5/2009, Fallout 3's third $10 add-on, Broken Steel, was released in a broken state; a fixed version was released several days later. In this pack, you join the Brotherhood of Steel to rid the Capital Wasteland of the Enclave. It also allows you to return to the game after completing the main quest, and raises the level cap to 30.

I rented this game a couple months ago and after playing it for a few days I thought it wasn't for me. But recently i've been getting the urge to play it again, I might get the the GOTY edition.

    @bigtruckseries

Fallout 3 is not a FPS. If you were to recommend Fallout 3 to someone by telling them it's a FPS, they're going to HATE this game because it doesn't play like a FPS. It might have the first person view, but that's about it. FO3 is one of the best RPG's I've ever played.

Why should you buy this game?

    1. This game has probably the best atmosphere ever created in any game.
    2. HUGE map, would take probably 100 hours or more to explore it all.
3.One of the best leveling systems I have seen in any game.
4.You will want to go into every single building because you never know what might be in the next one.
    5. Hundreds of items to find and pick up, (seriously, there are soo many).
    6. A VERY large variation in creatures, (every environment in the game has its own creatures).
7.Karma system is great and allows you to be as evil or good as you want.
8.You can totally customize your character in appearance, as well as the type of character you want him to be, (thief, stealthy guy, persuade people with speech, ect...then again you will really be a little of each.)
    9. There are many different dialogue options while talking, and like in other games, conversations with other characters are hugely interesting and enjoyable, rather than some games you just want them to end.
10.Also, like creatures, huge variety in weapons, from kitchen knifes from guns that carry mini nukes.

There are also quite a few other things i didn't mention. Really, why some people don't like this game is beyond me, but hey this is just my opinion, which is, this game is the most amazing game I have ever played.

I'm only at the beginning of the game, and I'm impressed! I didn't understand why it got a 8.5 form GameSpot. It seems strict for such a game.

It's funny, BigTruckSeries and others always talk about Fallout 3 being like an FPS. Some even call it an 'RPG-Shooter', the same as they do Borderlands! This is proof of a dumbed down market! Has anyone called Oblivion an 'RPG-Sworder'?! Did anyone call Fallout 1 and 2 'RPG-Shooter's'? No!

Quite simply, Fallout 3 is an RPG, plain and simple, it just happens to come with laser guns rather than bows and arrows. The fact you shoot guns and don;t use a sword does NOT make it an 'RPG-Shooter'. It just makes it a Sci-Fi RPG!!!!!

Is it any wonder we are getting games that 10 years ago would have been called an Arcade-Adventure now being called RPG's!

@scorpgul Broken Steel fixes that, and there are mods that allow you to continue too.

I bought Fallout 3 last christmas. Mind you I don't even like RPG's that much because I don't like magic fantasy like Lord of The Rings and Warcraft. I like FIRST PERSON SHOOTERS.

Fallout 3 is a First Person Shooter that blends Role Playing Gameplay by making you "do things" in order to build skill levels and proficiencies with weapons and armor. The game tends to be closer to FPS than RPG but because of some focus on third person perspective it has a very unique feel.

Once you start playing, you get very interested and very involved in the game. Problem with this game is it doesn't have multiplayer - which is understandable and the game ENDS when you beat the main quest. You've waited a long time to buy Fallout...so you really might consider buying Borderlands which offers multiplayer for 4 people - although the singleplayer isn't as good as Fallout's.

I did play the game when it was new, and I thought it was a bit plain and annoying, but I kind shruged it off to fast, and I'm definitly going to buy it and play it through. I did the same thing with Bioshock and then I gave it another chance and it's now one the best FPS's I have played.

It's possibly one of the best games of all time. However i've never played it connsistently for like over a month but the i got back to it and get re-addicted to it. If you've not already got it then i suggest getting it.

I don't know what the hell they mean there's a load of bugs on the PS3 version (which I have) when I played it there was hardly a single visual bug I came across that was highlighted in the in depth written review. Without a doubt this is the best game I've ever played in my entire life a must have for all gamers!

just got this game don't know why it took so long. too much like oblivion for me they could have made improvements in character models and animations, the characters just don't seem believable to me. still pretty good though just not as amazing as everyone says.

This was a great video review. I bought the PS3 version and noticed exactly these quirks after playing recently on XBOX360. I wish GAMESPOT had a better video rating system because this was one of the best analytic videos of a great video game that I've ever watched. Want to give you the credit for that hard work!

I just got it for $52 which is annoying considering Dead Space and Mass Effect, 2 other games of the time, are now like $25. Gamestop, Target and like 4 other places didn't even have it. Worse yet, I bet it will suddenly got %50 off now at Best Buy... 10 months now, at least include the expansions for that price.

In my all time Top 2, the other is Oblivion. Finished the game, and all 5 DLC's and still find myself firing it up and going for a wander around the Wasteland. Best Game EVER!

Can you really ask a game developer to make a better game. 10 out of 10. Pure geneous. Absolute masterpiece. Work of art. Fun gameplay.. from humorous to intellectual dialog. Moral choices. Huge amounts of exploring and full attention to detail down to every last straw in the game. No questions asked... people who dis are missing a large part of thier imagination and might want to try a different hobbie.
