I'm hoping for something like Phantasy Star Portable 3 or something on the 3DS or Vita. Maybe Sega will consider it after PSO 2. Then again, I doubt Sega of America would localize it. -_-
I'll probably get PSO 2 on PC, since my wireless internet is unreliable.

For me, the point of an online-only game is pretty pointless on a handheld. I mean, a handheld is meant to be used outside of home, and for quick and short bursts of gameplay.

Playing an online game outside will mean having to dedicate hours at a time, and that's the point of a home console! If Sega really wanted this game to be online-only, they should have ported this to the PS3 or 360, not the Vita. I really believe than an offline component will be pretty important to the Vita version of this game. I hope they release a patch of some sort for offline mode.

At least, that's what I think, anyway.

think of any free to play MMOs, that offer offline contents... i'll be more than happy to find out

I wouldn't see the point in making an offline version now, you can find wi-fi anywhere nowadays, even at your local coffee shop and it's not like the quests are not too hard to solo whatsover. think about it this way, being an online game that is soloable, you decide to play with people and boom, the fun factor of the game just went from good to amazing.

I say give it a shot, it's free to play and it's not liek sega is saying you have to buy this game and you can only pay to play it online. It's a great game with constant updates and it's not pay to win.

Well... The Arks quest aren't that bad, but if you ever attempt to run a free explore map, it can range anywhere from 15 minutes to an hour of playtime. (Because, yes, **** does happen there.)

Wouldn't that be the point for it being single player only? for it to be single player, players would want i it to be challenging correct?

I certainly wouldn't mind paying the price of a budget game if it meant I could play offline. Maybe if fans get vocal enough, Sega will consider making a completely offline game that plays just like PSO2, and have it so that certain things you do in it can net you benefits in the MMO, and even have it so that you can access the MMO with your MMO character straight from the portable game (rather than having to have the MMO and the offline version as two separate applications).

This game will mainly work with Wi-Fi connection. The 3G isn't a requirement in the least, but it's supposely supported. So yeah, the game WILL work on both Vita models.

No offline mode. The Smartphone versions are as close as you'll get to an offline mode. And even so, you'll still need an internet connection to access your character data, which is the very same data you can use in both the PC and Vita versions.

As for what the 3rd poster suggested, that just sounds the same as PSU, and thank god that game is over and done with. Doing that is like making a separate game with the exact same game mechanics. Really, it will all end up moot and redundant knowing that ANY progress done with the offline mode character will never move on to the online game.

really because a vaguely remember being able to play the psp version offline... uhhh i believe it was phantasy star portable psp for short :p

I myself would love to have a Vita offline mode with the main story intact because the line at my place runs worse than my fifteen years old battered car. Downloading is pretty much a no go since I already tried that with the PC version. Darn line is like a candle in the wind.

I have a Wifi only model so I would very much appreciate an offline mode for the times I'm out and about with it. Besides, I'd hate to be confined to my room to play the game... I agree with TC on the fact that this should have been an XBOX or PS3 game if that was the case...

I do understand that there are those out there who like to hack, therefore the no offline mode does make sense, it's just frustrating that a few bad apples ruin the bunch. Such is the way of the world though...

Not sure if I even want to play this game after having it on my PC... It's not as fun as PSPo2, but then again, I'm playing as basically as possible since I can't read Japanese too well. I hope, if I spend the money on it, it's at least better than the PSP games were because then I'd be SURE they'd be fun at least.

...I'm gonna keep playing PSPo2 until this game is released over here lol

That would require the whole game to be offline. .-. The story progression in this game takes the form of "find a drop from a monster" -> "progress to the next step, which is either view an event somewhere or find another drop from a monster" -> repeat 'till you clear the required events to unlock the story quest for the chapter.

It's almost like PSU or is the story just too long to stick inside a memory stick? The steps taken is something to prevent hacking. Can't we at least have a character to ourselves in the memory that's no uploadable to the server? I would hate the day when the server go down...
