Made it to pharod, this morning, finally. after hacking my way through two levels of hostile NPCs that had me wondering if i had a broen game.

ageed to fetch him a bronze orb at which time i was directed to the crypt.

meandered my way to a tomb where three ghouls spawned in and beat me senseless.

tried to rest, no go. Tried to leave. its locked.
    dur?

Your post is a little unclear.

Broken? The Trash Warrens Thugs will attack you on sight. In the Buried Village you might get attacked by small groups of Thugs. These become hostile at random but normally they just stand there.

This sounds like the crypt with Gris.

You can't rest in the Weeping Stone Catacombs. The closest places would be Marta's House or The Dead Nations. To return the way you came you need to convince Barr to open the gate again.

I don't know. It just seemed like an impossible scenario.
the ghoblins were almost unbeatable, by themselves.
every single crypt seems to be a very challenging fight,
AND on top of that no rest at all.
I was wondering if perhaps i had done something wrong, jumped ahead of where i was supposed to be, or missed an available NPC or some such.
there doesn't really seem to be all that much to combat at level 3/4, its pretty much point and click.
and we're dying in like two hits.

Do side quests, level up your party, spend proficiency points.
Maybe start over and put more points in Dexterity.

    started over.
it was probably for the best, now that i know how to approach the game, i got a ton more by talking my way out of the mortuary,
i had completely missed the dead wife, raise dead ability, and i had missed stripping the skeleton golems

    that's better.

I had missed a lot. I think the mistake I made was thinkng i was supposed to prioritize finding Pharod,
whereas the way it works is, you're supposed to do all the local stuff first, then take on pharod's dungeon, at the end.

which is a shame because annah's so damn hawt.

in the early going its best to use Morte as a tank, he's got some unheard of resistances to damage.
he's just a frail looking skull, but ironically he's to be played as a meatshield (in this game many many fantasy conventions are turned upside down)
so let him take the aggro and have TNO + Dak'kon flank.

    you do have Dak'kon, right?
get him if you haven't got him, he's got some good buffs for TNO. plus his dialogue is deep and gives great XP rewards if you go right through it. Dak'kon can become a beast then.

back to TNO, don't worry too much if you die. its actually a good idea to die sometimes, believe it or not. and you'll regenerate fast - get your WIS + CON up, doesn't matter if you're mage or fighter or rogue.
what you don't want is your NPCs to die, even if you got the raise dead plot perk, cuz they don't regenerate (well Dak'kon can, but you gotta get him a tattoo...) and unless you grind a bit by beating up hive thugs, healing items are rarish.

but yeah, you really gotta beef up a bit and preferably get thugged out before going down and running Pharod's errand, if you are new to the game.

just to clarify - only +CON speeds up regen. i only mention WIS as its simply the most important stat, giving you insightful dialogue options and a % increase in XP earned, which obviously levels you quicker and therefore beefs you up for the fights you'll get into later.

Actually, if you leave the catacombs, but before you speak to Barr in an attempt to get him to unlock the gate, you can sleep on the floor.

You can also pick Barrs pocket for the key, and bash the gate (but Barr will turn Red).

I always find Mage to be the best class, level up your chars. Make sure you have Dak'kon, and have tackled lesser "dungeons" a la The Masoleum/ Alley of Dangerous Angels etc.

we're making progress. my next major plot point is ravel,
so i'm trying to mop eeeeverything else, first.
last thing i did this weekend was buy the modron toy.

i wanted to get Falls from grace the suit of armor with extra spell slots but money is just so scarce in this game, when you're trying to be neutral good, and turning down all those re-wards. i can barely afford to eat

Talk to Gaoha in the hive marketplace. You can save first then gamble with him.
