When I was little, I mispronounced Geodude terribly. I don't remember how I pronounced it exactly, I just remember it dawning on me one day that it was "geo" and "dude" put together.

i pronounce Rayquaza how everyone else in this topic has said, and I interchange between the two Arceus pronunciations.

I also hate the "official" pronunciations for Ferroseed and Ferrothorn. So dumb.

Also Regice is pronounced like Regi-ice. That's what they said in the 8th movie.

For some reason I said Kyogre like Kai-org, and sometimes still do.

Depends what you consider proper pronunciation to be. Please don't tell me it's the anime...

That said, me and some friends have a running gag going with Kyogre, Groudon and Rayquaza.

Oh so many ... Aerodactyl, Arceus, many others.

Propably because I don't often actually "hear" these names and because of language differences.

Like for example ... if I recall correctly. Aerodactly is pronounced Ährodactul, but in my native tounge it's A-Ero-dact-tühl.

    ... hard to describe, whatever.

Im mexican so I pronounce everything as it is written

    Gyarados = Gee rah dos

Really? Your Mexican but you don't know they call themselves Spanish? Since you know, they're Spanish.

Anyways, I probably pronounce some wrong still, you never know unless you actually hear them and I don't watch the anime so I am not entirely sure on the pronunciation of some.

Are you trying to say Mexicans call themselves "Spanish" over Mexican. As in "I'm Spanish, not Mexican."

    If so you're quite wrong...

The Nidoran lines were definitely ones I did this with, because I always used the long I sound.

    Mind=Blown

I always thought Kyogre was pronounced Kai-Oh-Gree until I read this thread. I also used to think Dialga was Diagla and Palkia Paklia for some reason...

When I was 7 and Pokemon just hit America blastoise immediately caught my eye. I called him blaster because the poke rap said it so fast and my friends always picked charmander or bulbasaur. My mother refused to get me a gameboy. Later on my cousin got the blue version and finally saw it was blastoise and I heard wrong. I also did the rattata thing too but hey I was 7 and saw what made sense. I mean which rolls off the tongue better?

I never was one for mispronunciations I was a stickler for that ever since i started playing Pokemon. I would often berate my parents for mispronouncing the names. suffice it to say that's changed a bit since Gen 1 and gotten worse with subsequent generations.

Today, some of the official pronunciations sound awful to me. That said here's a list of the Pokemon names that I pronounce different from the official pronunciation. To make sure I was pronouncing the names wrong I checked the Pokedex 3D pro videos I found online.

    Unova Pokemon (Gen 5)

    Conckeldurr - Conk-el-Durr
I don't mind it "per se" but i just say Con-cul-durr

    Escavalier- Es-cava-leer
I prefer to stick with a French pronunciation of Es-cava-li-eh

    Ferrothorn- Ferr-a-Thorn
    I prefer Fer-ro-thorn

    Mienfoo/Mienshao- Meen-foo/meen-shao
    I prefer Mine-foo and Mine-shao

    Hydriegon- Hi-dry-gon
I preffer Hi-drei-gon which is a similar pronunciation to Hydrangea(which is a flower).

    Cobalion- Co-bay-leon
I prefer Coba-leon but I don't mind the official pronunciation too much

    Sinnoh (Gen 4)
    Bidoof/Bibarel- Bee-doof/Bee-barel
    I prefer Bid-oof and Bib-arel

    Mesprit mes-prit
I prefer Me-sprit but objectively it doesn't matter to me

    Arceus- Ark-ee-us
I go with Ar-see-us right now but it changes I've also been know to pronounce it Ar-sus

    Hoenn (Gen 3)

    Manectric- Mane-eck-trick
I just go with Man-ek-trick i don't like to use the same letter for two diffrent sounds ie Mane and eck

    Vibrava V-eye-brava
I go with Veh-brava simply because it feels better

    Milotic - My-low-tic
I like Mill-o-tic because to me it sounds more melodious which in my mind fits the pokemon better.

    Regice- Reg-ice
I say regi-ice since it is one of the Regi

    Kyogre- Kai-ogre
I've always prefered Key-ogre but I don't have a problem with the official pronunciation.

    Rayquaza- Ray-quay-zah
I prefer Ray-quah-zah but I can live with the official pronunciation.

    Johto (Gen 2)
    Ariados- Area-dos
I like to go with the actual letters for a pronunciation so it's Aria-dos for me

    Lugia Lou-gee-ah
this was the first Pokemon that I knowingly mispronounced the name of on purpose because i didn't like the official one it's Lou-jee-ah to me but I say it properly if if comes up in conversation since I'd rather not be mocked for it, Which has happened to me..

    Kanto (Gen 1)
    Rattata- Ret-ta-ah
I'll stick with Rat-ah-tah since pokedex 3D pro's pronunciation seems odd to me

I might be mispronouncing them but It's only 20 out of 649 which is only about 3% and after all is said and done that's enough for me.

Well, technically I still mispronounce many names such as Arceus and Kyogre because the other pronunciations sound stupid if I say them.

I used to call Kyogre Ky-ger. Now I say Kai-ogre. I guess that's wrong or something, but I don't care.
I say Ar-ceh-us instead of Ar-key-us because it sounds stupid and I refuse to say it.
I used to say Ga-ye-ree-doos instead of Gya-ra-dos like it's supposed to be said.
I used to say Ji.guh-lee-puff instead of Jigglypuff.
And stuff like that. I still mispronounce some because the "official" pronunciation sounds dumb to me and I really don't care if I'm saying it wrong or not.

Lugia. Seriously had no idea how the hell to pronounce that until Pokemon the Movie 2000

OMG IKR!! i always said lu-jee-ah and when i heard the right way i still called it that cuz i thought it sounded cooler. tho ive now adapted to the correct spelling. but i too still do the Ray-quah-za just because i like it more. and if arceus is really Ar-kee-us then idgaf i say Ar-see-us. just sounds right. i am usually pretty good with pokemon names tho.
