Well, I say Guardian Signs since I liked the characters (except Summer, she can die in a fire) and the music...

Shadows of Almia. I don't know why, but Guardian Signs just felt...so damn bland, for some reason.

Definitely Almia. It improved the original in every possible way. Guardian Signs was ok, just not as good as Almia IMO.

I never played Guardian Signs, so out of the first two I'd say the original. Shadows of Almia just felt... too easy for me.

Shadows of Almia, I liked how the PC developed from a school trainee all the way to Top Ranger. Plus the rainbow stylus line was neat.

Guardian Signs was fun and interesting, but the story wasn't as good as Almia.

Shadows of Almia was a lot darker (no punintendo) than GS, IMO.
